Chrome peeling issues need your helo - info
« on: February 13, 2007, 10:01:06 AM »

Hey guys, my bike is at the shop now for the engine noise and a small list, mostly chrome issues. The engine noise was the comp sprocket nut.

HD, including the the rep, denied the chrome peeling problems, wheels, mirrors, floorboards. What they did offer was for HD to pay 1/3, the dealer 1/3 and me 1/3. Told them no. My guess is that this 1/3 - 1/3 - 1/3 thing is for me to pay for the parts, the dealer pays for the labor and HD MoCo skips their responsibility.

What I am looking for as far as help is to put together a list of members bikes with their problems and the outcome. Including if you have had items replaced twice (like the wheels).

So if you don't mind;

  • your name
  • your bike model & year
  • item(s) in question
  • dealer
  • outcome (who paid

PM or email at porthole@optonline.net if you think you would rather not have this info on the www.
Thanks for any help.

Duane, are you still in the 2 year warranty period?  If so, they should be covering you 100%.  I had all four floorboards and the transmission top cover replaced at no charge on my bike just a few months before the 2 years expired on mine.

If you're outside the 2 years, then maybe what they're suggesting is actually pretty reasonable. :nixweiss:

I've got a similar problem on my new bike. When I removed one front caliper mount bolt to replace it with the polished SS stuff I'm doing all over the bike, I noticed the chrome under one bolt came off.

The problem was caused by the factory bolt head without a washer turning on the chrome, cracked it and caused it to peel.

Any ideas how I can win the battle I think will happen when I go in there and want the fork leg replaced under warranty?

I can only assume they will say it happened when I took out the caliper bolt, not when the factory torqued it down in the first place without washers. This is a service item, and would probably happen sooner or later during tire changes or the like.

Has anyone else had this problem on the forks?

I think I would be looking for a different local dealer if they can't satisfy you and have to get OK's from the MoCo

The dealer(s) that I do business with just take care of the problems with No Questions Asked

Guys,

If it is not already answered in the other thread Brian listed; I am looking for specifics so I can argue with the rep.
Changing dealers is not an option, this is the best dealer in the area.
