Front Fork Reflector Removal
« on: December 17, 2006, 11:22:24 AM »

SE_ULTRA, how'd you get that reflector off without scratching the forks?  I searched the site but couldn't find a match.

I tried the hair dryer but I don't think it gets hot enough.

Any compound you can pour on there to losen it up?

I used goof off to soften the glue and carefully slid some fishing line behind it. The fishing line acts as a knife to cut through the adhesive. Then some more goof off after the reflector is removed to clean up the left over glue.

Yea, these have to go, the front fork reflectors look like something that comes stock on an old 10 speed Scwinn or Huffy stingray bicycle.

Did the same thing and used the same stuff... worked great and the front end looks MUCH cleaner and custom. Took me 1/2 hour total.

I use a heat gun after about 30 seconds of heat they pull off with little effort.

I just grabbed it and with a bit of finger leverage it came off, tape and all.

Cleaned it up with some adhesive remover and a little was.

Here's another thread on it: http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1135870175/7#7

Rjob749, I guess when I tried the search I used reflector instead of reflectors and nothing came up...I'll get this search thing figured out soon.

Anyway, I did exactly what SE_ULTRA said and it took only a few minutes.  If I had a store bought heatgun that would ahve probably worked but I don't want to spend the money.

By the way, I was wondering about "Amzoil" is there a thread on that?

Try "Amsoil" in your search.

Glad you got the reflectors off, they do look a bit school bus like.

Took them off my '06 melon but haven't done so on the jester yet.  Just wondering how much visability they offer to other motorists.  Probably not much so I most likely will take them off also.

I planned on doing this to my nana when I got it and forgot about it. Now I'm use to them and I do run at night and need all the help I can get! So I guess they stay on....for now! ::)

Yeah, I'm with JR on this one.  While I wouldn't necessarily go out an add a bunch of reflectors up there to increase nighttime visibility, I'll leave the stock one on there.  Every little bit helps. [smiley=nervous.gif]
