body changes throughout the SERG years?
« on: November 26, 2013, 02:05:28 PM »

I was wondering has there been any geometry and or body changes that were made from 2000-present?  Or does my bike look shorter because of the smaller wheel compared to the new ones...

its as if the newer models are raked more.

Is this a Napoleon complex?  Just kidding!  Compared to the 2009 and newer bikes, your bike is ever so slightly shorter.  Harley changed the frame in 2009 and lengthened the swingarm to accommodate the exhaust passing under the frame.  The 2009's also had 18 inch wheels and in 2012, 19" front wheels.  Harley also rotated the fairing slightly forward beginning with the standard RG in 2010.

That's all I can think of at the moment. Anyone else?

One of the biggest changes that is very noticeable is the change in gas tanks" 2008 model year went to the six gallon tank.
In terms of SERGs, it effected the CVO ROAD GLIDE IN 2009.

Which makes a big difference in looks and more miles of smiles.

in 2010, in addition to tilting the fairing forward 2*, they raised it up an inch also.  the overall diameter of the front wheel, be it 16'', 17'', 18'' or even 19'' remained virtually the same, just uses a lower profile tire.

Quick question for you knowledgable gentlemen. Are all the fuel doors the same for the RG’s? What years will actually fit my 2001?

1992 to 2007 fuel doors.  The six gallon tanks in 08 are a different fuel door.

Is it possible to tilt my fairing down and raise it up like the 10 and up. Is it just the mounting bracket or is it a huge ordeal? Thanks fellas

Yes it is possible and requires changing the mounting brackets. It is certainly not a huge ordeal. If you search on here you will find several guys who have done it and list the parts required.

'Changed the brackets on the '09 to accommodate the vented lowers and J&M speaker pods. The vented lowers were the final piece to the puzzle of aerodynamic nirvana for me. 'Don't know how much the brackets contributed, as I did them at the same time as the vented lowers.
Your graphics won't line up, and you already have lowers on your bike, you might want to leave well enough alone  :nixweiss:

lower fairing change in 2010. The pre 2010 has a lip at the top of lowers.

Nope.  No complex here,  I just noticed the new cvos look "longer".  I have a good eye!  ha ha.  I think once' I install bigger wheels, it will look less noticeable.
