Handle bar change
« on: January 09, 2014, 09:14:37 PM »

Ordered WO612 for a 2009 SERG.  Does the front fairing have to come off for any reason when changing RG bars?

If the wires are going to be run internally then you'll have to unplug control switches inside fairing.  Also the TBW plug is in the fairing.  You only have to remove outer fairing, not inner.

Yep, what he said!

You have to remove the inside fork covers too where your aux switch, speaker switch, etc. is located as well.

The connections will be to large to pull back through the bars. If your wires have to be extened, you may as well cut the wires leaving plenty on the plug under the fairing. After pulling the wires back through, stagger the solder joints so as not to have a 'wad' in one place. Some of the wire colors are hard to find but you can use any color on those as long as you clearly mark the ends. Enjoy!

the connectors are easily de-pinned so the wires can be pulled through the bars

If I remember right the ignition switch will have to remove also to get to where YB is talking about. That's fun if you have never done it before, after the first time it's not bad

I'm really lucky.  I have a really great indy shop, V-Twin Specialties, that only charged me 2 hours labor on my bar change.  Great guys

Well my bike is back after a major up-grade:

1) Zippers Air Cleaned             Part #162-295
2) New Heads CNC                  Part#16934-02A
3) Roller Rocker Arms K            Part#17378-98
4) Quick Install Pushrods         Part#17997-99A
5) Compression Kit             Part # 29298-02
6) Back plate Carb               Part#29443-99
7) SE EFI Tuner System       Part#32107-01
8) Bassani Tour Mufflers       Part#BX-101HO
9) Bassani Header Pipes       Part#BX-115
10) Gear Drive Cam             Part#HQ-0033-G
11) Cam Gear Drive             Part#SS-335163

The heads have been ported and bench flowed with 2.00 intakes

I have very good MAP data and every day I gather moor and send it off to my mechanic for his evaluation.  I have only had to make two changes to the MAP and she seems to be running great!  I will have a Dyno done after I get 1000 miles

LOL What??? Takes longer then that just to tear down and pull wires. Where are they I'm taking mine in next time.

They quoted me 10 hours of labor at 65 an hour and 250 for the bars + 400 for the cables! Needless to say, I did them myself. Parts were about $500 and no labor :)

I did mine myself, 12" Yafee. Outside of parts, all it cost me was my sanity and bottle go Valium. :drink:

LOL yes sir. I do my projects in the winter and literally do a little here and a little there so I have no reason to be in a hurry. Hell I have had the bars wired and installed for weeks and still haven't replaced the clutch and brake lines that I have laying in the garage. Maybe this week  :nixweiss:
