Just bought a Maple RG that will be here by the end of the month after having the dealer install some Fat Cats and Super Tuner (hopefully...). I have always had a backrest so I am looking for a solo with a backrest that looks good/feels good. I am a big boy (6.3 280lbs) so it cant be "just pretty"... I currently have a Corbin covered with Ostrich/ Alligator on my ST. I am looking for exotic to enhance the look without getting too gaudy. It seems like I am between Le Pera and C and C custom seats. Looking for some help/advice. Thanks for letting in on this forum, very cool!!!

perlinal,
Since your post is requesting some technical assistance I moved it to the model specific board so you may get the answers you are looking for. If you want to start another thread in the New Member Introduction board and introduce yourself feel free to do so.

Well, I actually just logged on to start a thread on the same thing (new seat), so I will be following this thread. Put 430 miles in yesterday and my tailbone and back are killing me.

I just ordered a Danny Grey Air-hawk solo seat today (should be insanely comfortable). Working with the artist to make it a 1-off to match the Doberman. Got the idea from reading this forum and seeing how happy people were with the Danny Grey. I almost ordered the Le Pera until i read the posts. I will post some pics and reviews when I get it.

Please send me a message with the details I am looking to do the same for my skunk, I want a one off to match the bike too, not liking the look of the Mustang solo on the bike that I saw on a Blue/Black CVO......

Went up to their factory today (Santa Ana,CA) and saw their work. Amazing! They had me sit on a Road Glide and build the seat to my body and riding position. They also are the source of the "Harley Custom Seat Program" as well as all Orange County Chopper bikes. I got the "Big Seat" solo with matching passenger pillion, backrest and sissy bar pad (removable). The artist is doing some drawings for me based on the bike and then we will come up with a design that will hopefully be amazing. Great experience so far... The person who helped me is Sherry Clark at 888-443-2669.she was awesome!

I just ordered the new Lepera Continental/Backrest seat for my Skunk.
The seat is 17" wide for the rider and 16" for passenger.
I bought it for the wife when touring and long trips.
I always used Corbin's in the past.

Just picked up my 2012 SERGC (skunk) yesterday and have put about 50 miles on it so far. The stock seat looks good and is fairly comfortable, but I'm used to a backrest and really miss it. I love the look of the Corbin seats, but am worried about some reports of it being on the hard side. I'd love to see the Danny Gray seat - please post pics when you get it!
-
My Corbin came in yesterday, I like the comfort but it moved me forward and up and that I did not like. Will be putting some good miles on this weekend, but I don't think I will be able to love with the position of it, the position of the stock solo is perfect for me, but no backrest use with the stocker, and it's useless for long days in the saddle.

This is the artist drawing for the Danny Grey. Middle brown is Ostrich, Darker brown next to it is Bison and rest is distressed brown leather.
-
With passenger pillion... should be done in couple of weeks (if materials available). I will post when done.

 I must have been sleeping cause I just saw the picture of your seat and it is awesome.

It does have the Air Hawk built in. Need it for my big bu---!
-
Beautiful Seat! Any problems mounting with the fender strips? Does the seat move you forward?
-
No problems with the strips. dont really feel any more forward...
-
Yes, I agree the seat looks great, and the bike isn't bad either, but I could be a little partial. You mentioned that the fender strips did not interfere with the rear pillion, do you know if the factory backrest would be usable? You have the back rest on the rear seat and was curious if that was the only option. I talked with Sherry today about ordering my own and told her your posts were very helpful and the seat looked great......
-
I have the detachable sissy bar with a the matching pad on it that they made to match the rest
-
Sherry was awesome by the way, great customer service!
-
Thanks for the info, I sent Sherry my wish list last night for quote. Glad I can use the factory back rest and pad for now with the AirHawk. Maybe then I can rest my wallet for a bit, is that possible, ride safe!
-
That work out for you? I rode for about 200 miles today with no "butt" issues. That's a record for me....
-
Purchased my 'skunk' two weeks ago, trying to decide on tru-duals vs. slip ons and a race tuner..... can anyone off any suggetions.... I would like to either use the black tips that came on the bike or purchase new ones... thanks,

Fullsac Stage I header and cores, plus TTS tuner and canned map. $1100 if you do the work. Best bang for the buck out there, period.

I really like the stock seat on my skunk. The only thing that I missed was a back rest. I went to my local ulpolstery shop and he made me a removable back rest. Then I had him restich the passenger pillon and passenger back rest to match the stock riders seat. I am very pleased with the results and the price.

That is exactly what I want. How is the drivers backrest attached? Pictures?
-
He uses the same set up as Cobin. He has to attach a braket that he makes to the stock seat pan then makes the back rest and uses the square stock like Corbin. It has the same type of adjustment and is removeable. He can reuploster the seat with what ever you want or modify the stock cover. He then modified the pillon to work with the back rest. I can go solo or two up just like before. It's very clean and affordable. It takes him about 3-4 days to do this.

Looks great!

Please, more/better/larger photos. Can you take one of just the backrest out? Seat mod? I love my stock seat but would love to have a backrest like that!!! :2vrolijk_21: That is amazing... hope it is OK for you to share.

Hope this helps anwser your questions.
The set up is just like Corbin. He has to shorten the passenger pillon some to make room for the back rest.

Heres another shot.

Thank you!!! :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21: Out looking for a local shop that can do the same for mine. I miss the backrest!

How has the seat felt since you have had it for a while? And how is it on long rides? Oh and that really does look good with the maple. Shadow1

Very nice job! Mind sharing what it set you bacK? I've got too many seats and as always seems to be the case, I should have just done it right the first time instead of trying out a bunch of cheaper options. I've got a HD Brawler solo (good for nothing more than bar hopping), a Corbin Classic Solo w/pillion pad (OK, but still wears my ass out after a few hours), and a Corbin dual touring (comfortable, but ugly as hell!).
Would love to get to CA, get one fitted and customized and be happy with the look and feel.

One more question for 2timin,,,, Is the backrest adjustable. Can it be raised up or down and is the angle adjustable also? Looks great tho... :2vrolijk_21:

Yes it has alittle adjustment just like the Cobin set up. It has an extra nut welded on the stock so that you can set the hieght if you want, just like the Corbin. Check out the Corbin seat (they are everywhere and very good) And you can see the set up.
-
Is it possible to adjust the back rest forward or aft any?
Thanks
