Premium Oil Cooler for FLSTNSE
« on: January 08, 2015, 06:01:20 AM »

Hello,

I am just thinking to install an oil cooler. I like the HD one with installation in the middle and dont like the installation at the side frame tube.
Now my question does somebody know why on the official HD site is said that it will not fit to our FLSTNSE. We have enough space in the middle because  the ABS  reservoire is installed on a different place.
Please let me know your thoughts or expierences.

Thanks  :pepper: Torsten  :pepper:

I've also been looking into that and my thoughts are it will fit just fine.

I just haven't pulled the trigger yet.  Its my wife's bike and it already has 27k miles and we'll probably trade it for a new one pretty soon....

I have no knowledge myself on this, but would definitely like to follow the discussion.  I know my wife will want me to do everything I can to keep her FLSTNSE as cool as possible, especially when Summer hits here in Texas.

Check out the Oil Bud https://harleyoilcoolers.com/.  It installed between the frame rails under the engine.  Basically hidden except for the adapter and braided steel lines.

Hi,

the HD Premium Oil Cooler for Softails will fit between the down tubes on the CVO models (hidden ABS behind fork bracket).
I have had these used until I switched to the hidden Oil-Bud with better cooling performance.

Hi 0815,

you are right looks realy good and is hidden at all. My concern is when I have a brand new bike and use after market products I will definitly have a long discussion with HD Germany in the case of an warranty problem.

Thats main the reason why I stick on the HD parts.

To all, I had Harley install an Oil Bud cooler and they will warrant it as long as they install it, it mounts under the bike in between the frame rails, and is almost completely hidden from veiw and won't block the much need air for cooling, pricey though for my 2015 CVO FLSTNSE it was around $700, I also was able to put my jack under my frame and rasie as normal, it also does not block the pans underneath.

Thanks to all of you for the information about the Oil bud and HD Oil cooler.
Due too waranty reasons I decided to go with the HD Version. I got it very cheap during the Daytona bike week and installed it yesterday evening by myself. Its an easy job and everything fits perfect. Only the chrome cover I fixed with additional zip ties because I dont trust the glue methode.

Hi Torsten,

thanks for the pics and your description. Did you measure the temperature before on a regular basis? I would like to see what the oil cooler actually does in terms of  oil temperature reduction. One remark though, now that the oil cooler installed covering the cylinder I would assume that the front cylinder gets less cooling due to reduced airflow. Doesn#t that offset the whole idea of the oil cooler? It would be great if you could sahre your experience...

Thanks and safe ride

Hi Guido,

the main cover for the first cylinder is the front fender not the oil cooler. As I said there was no option for me due to warranty reasons of the new bike. Measurement was not necessary because the difference is so huge that I am more than happy with the situation now. No hot idling at all.
