Auxiliary Lights - Wiring 2011 SESG2
« on: October 04, 2010, 04:40:06 PM »

Has anyone installed their own lights? I bought the kit and started the install and there are some discrepancies in the install instructions. I don't have my 2011 service manual yet but have the 2010. The issue is the light switch included for the lights. It shows inserting three new pins in the factory multilock connector. The issue is the factory connector body harness does NOT have wires on the other side of the connector. I checked the 2010 manual and it shows wires on the connector from the factory. I think since the 2011 models have the HD-LAN there may be changes for simple things like this. I can "manually" wire the lights with no problem but was wondering what others have done.

I checked with the dealer but their suggestion was to cut into the harness off of the ACC switch which I don't want to do.

Ditto here. The amp multilock 12 pin connector 105B, is only wired for Aux & cruise control for the 2011 CV SG. I had to make my own harness from from 105B for spot lights. Additionally, I bought the Boom Audio kit with the CB module & non ultra overlay harness. Exact same thing happened with the speaker wire switch. The wires aren't there coming into 105B and the kit instructions say nothing about it. I had to solder one wire that Ts off of an existing wire in the back of the radio and go into 105B and make two other wires that go from 105B into the right side plug on the radio (I have my manual in my garage, but I think it's connection 27 that plugs into the right side of the radio, a different type of terminal end than multilock).

I had the exact same problem. Got the whole thing installed and no juice. After looking into it I noticed the wire harness doesn't include the proper corresponding wires in the harness. After looking at the workshop manual wiring diagram they've changed that in the 2011's. HD dealer here in Bellevue,WA confirmed. They said it was an easy fix so I had them wire it up. Took them about an hour.

That's what I ended up doing last night; making my own harness from the multilock connector. Not hard but also not expected. They need to update the aux light kit instructions.

HDLAN system on the 2011 Softails.  Not yet migrated to the other models for 2011 according to the MY2011 tech bulletin.

Yep. Missed that in the MY2011 doc. So I wonder why they deleted those wires in the harness. $$

When I installed mine, I wired them to run off the power wire for the ACC switch.  Now I can run them with either hi or low beams on.

Thanks!

The easiest thing to do is get a wiring diagram for a non-CVO touring bike. It shows the wiring that the aux light kit expects. I ran the wires per the diagram :

1) Tapped into the yellow wire for the headlamps and ran it to connector 105A position 6
2) Ran a ground wire to 105A position 8
3) Ran a gray wire from 105A to turn signal connectors 31RA and 31LA position 4

All the above connector positions are open and all you have to do is get the correct Delphi terminals. Then you can use the switch that came with the kit and not jack with the ACC switch. The aux lights then wire to the turn signal harness just like the Ultras, etc (bikes that come with factory aux lights). If you do it this way it will be as the factory does it on non-CVO bikes.  I really recommend having the service manual handy. It really helps if you are good with wiring diagrams too.

Awesome, thanks. I've spent hours trying to figure this out.  Purchased the 2011 touring guide service manual as well as the CVO guide and thought I was missing something. My only other question is the gray wire from the bulb itself. I assumed it would populate the fourth slot in the turn signal harness but as with the 105 harness there is nothing in the other end of the 4th position in the turn signal harness.  Where to a put that gray wire to. Lastly, if I understood your instructions, nothing goes to the 7th position on the 105.  Is that correct?

Again, many thanks!!!

Sorry. You do run the gray wire from position 7 to the turn signal connectors, position 4. left that detail out. Now you have the hot wires to connect to the other end for the gray wire of the aux lights.
