The first thing I try to do when I get home with my new bike is put on the 4 point docking hardware and the passenger backrest.  Didn't fit.  The docking hardware was easy but the right shock interferes with the backrest sliding on all the way.  There isn't enough clearance between the bolt and the top of the shock.  Anybody else have this problem?

Just went and looked at mine. It is also hitting the top of the shock. The backrest goes on and off with no problem but now there is a little flat spot on the top of the shock.

Is your shock installed with the chrome inner slide up or down?  If you look at them it seems like the right one is upside down from how the other one is mounted although the part number label is readable right side up.

I agree . I had similar problem on my 2011 . Turned right hand shock upside down problem solved . My only concern was that shock would be ok other way up , but I had no issues at all .

I might be wrong on this but I don't think you should turn your right side upside down. I believe the left side is meant to handle more of the compression, while the right side is meant to handle more of the rebound. Take a look at the differences in the springs windings as well between the two shocks. If the right side has higher rebound damping and you turn it upside down it will be working opposite if you know what I mean. just my opinion but you should be able to research and find out for sure.

I talked to my dealer about this today and he is going to contact Harley tomorrow and see what they have to say about it.  I'll update when I get some answers.

Compared to my 2013 CVO Road King, your right side shock is installed upside down.  The instruction sheet for the premium adjustable shocks J05047 shows the installation opposite of yours for the right shock.  Kinda makes sense since you typically wouldn't want the sliding shaft and its bushing / seal on top for contaminants to sit on and seep into.  Hope this helps.

Dealer just called me back.  He talked to Harley and there is a service bulletin out there that apparently isn't well known.  I guess you all know the solution already, as Harley's solution is to flip the shock upside down and then it will have proper clearance.  Makes you wonder...

I flipped the shock over, took 10 minutes.  The backrest fits now but still touches the shock.  I'm letting the dealer know just to get it documented when it starts squeaking unbearably.

Got my Kuryakyn air horn installed tonight too.  If they don't see me coming they can at least hear me coming.

Harley has got to tighten up on its quality control...or rather a lack thereof.
