New Streetglide: Bar mounted mirrors?
« on: November 27, 2014, 03:58:08 AM »

I was just reading a thread where the op (HighOnHD) showed his beautiful blue/lava bike with powder coated apes. He mentioned how much more comfortable his bars and bar-mounted mirrors are vs stock.

And it got me thinkin'.

I have a new hard candy Mercury due any day now. I intend keeping it largely stock. Question is, would YOU consider bar mounted mirrors on the stock bars? Either instead of, or in addition to, the fairing mounted mirrors?

I have 12". 577 bars,,  no way would on be able to see out of the fairing mount mirrors with them,  I had the holes plugged and painted and went with Tribal bar mount mirrors,   one of the best mods I did,,   so comfortable  and I can see easily what's behind me,,   I would do it again,,,, Stuart.   Those mirrors should be an option  if someone would want to buy them like on every other bike HD sells,,,  too bad they stick em on every street glide sold,,  weather we want them or not,, >:(

I am 5'-8" tall and I can see perfectly out of my fairing mounted mirrors with My 12" Monkey Bars. 10" bars no way but 12" ( really about 13") are good to go.

I'm a little thick (leave it alone TN) and unable to see using the fairing mounted mirror as my arms and shoulders are in the way. So I mounted the mirror on the bars.  I got two CVO brake housing stickers to cover the holes which I filled in with black silicon.  If I ever have the fairing torn down all the way for some reason in the future I may the inner painted but for now this works for me.  Not a great pic but only on I have at the time.

Like most things it is subjective. I can say that I had wild ones 575 I believe on my older Street Glide w/bar mounted mirrors and then went to the 12" Yaffe bars using the same bar mount mirrors. I have 50k miles on that setup. I only have 430 miles with same setup on new bike. My point is I just rode a stock rental street glide with fairing mirrors (650 miles) and at first I thought I can't see a damn thing! I ended up getting used to it but no comparison between visibility with bar mounted mirrors. I mean physics alone for placement angles between the two systems gives the answer. :)

I would have to do one or the other.  I wouldn't be able to look at both on the bike.  I think that looks funny.  Just my 2cents.  Do whatever makes you happy.
