Tail Light Mods for 2015 CVO SG
« on: December 06, 2014, 05:05:56 PM »

Has anyone tried or come up with any ideas for tail light adds for the 2015 CVO SG?   Basically I want to install the curved Yaffe license plate frame and install a lay down version LED tail light to increase my visibility and keep it looking good.   Main thing is I don't want to have to drill any holes in the fender.   I've seen some pictures of this done on the 2012 CVO SG's.   Looks like the 3 most popular are badlands, custom dynamics, and bright ass lights.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

If I understand correctly, you want to add a "third" tail light to your CVOSG fender, in addition to a Yaffe license plate frame, and not drill any holes.  When you say "lay down" tail light, this is what I envison...is this right?

IIRC I read somewhere that Kury makes a no drill model. Not sure how it attaches.

HD has tail lights that mount to each bag. They are very bright & have a clean look. They're used on Limiteds when installing a detach kit for travel/tour pack.

Yeah I saw that one and it's available in the smoked lenses too.  Plus HD makes an LED light that can be added to the sissy bar that looks pretty slick.  Not sure how that works with the 4point docking though.

You may want to see how the European and Canadian models have the tail light attached. Their laws require they use the conventional tail light.

I'm betting they use the same holes as the US.

probably, but it costs more than the custom dynamics one, and will probably take more work.

I'm running yaffe CVO bracket on mine. Plug and play (you may have to swap pins in plug) and have to drill out mounting holes in bracket so new bolts will pass through.

I am going to try this lighted license plate frame from Custom Dynamics.  Not sure how bright it will be.  Anyone ever used or seen one?

Yeah I am tending to agree that there isn't really a good option that does not take away from the looks of the rear end and still increases safety visibility.

One last thought were the plasma rods from custom dynamics that would go between the bags and bike and run parallel with the existing LED brake lights.

i don't think that the parallel lights with the taillights and then the plasma rods will add that much visibility.  imo, the best thing that you could do to increase vis is to add the magic brake light flasher from custom dynamics.  get those taillights flashing and you'll stand out a big more.

if i am stuck waiting to turn left, and i see traffic coming up behind me, i'll release the brakes and then hit them again (i have mine set to flash, and then go solid).  that will get the brake lights flashing, and so far, i've not had anyone almost pancake me.

There's a you tube video of the plasma rods on the custom dynamics website that may help you decide.  For more visibility when stopped this would be my choice, rather than cluttering up the clean rear fender with a 3rd brake light.

I like the idea of the magic brake light flasher.  Plus only a $50 dollar mod.
