91 FXR Lowrider. I have owned it for about 10 years. It needed help when I got it - some bolt on parts, cam (EV27), pipes (cycle shack) and some cosmetic stuff along with some good old elbow grease. It has been a solid bike and has never let me down. I am chasing down a primary knock that I haven't quite figured out yet. Tried the comp nut, chain adjustment and clutch basket. I will now have to investigate further by pulling the comp sprocket assembly and taking a harder look - kinda of waiting for winter though - still great ridin out here in CA.

Great looking FXR !!

Good luck finding your knock problem, hopefully it won't be hard to find, or fix, and won't be expensive

Here it is.  I just bought this FXR4 with 5600 miles.  It will sit next to my blue SERK3.  Can't wait to get it back here from Chicago, just in time for winter storage.  A Christmas present to me and a way to help stimulate the economy.  As I posted on the other thread, I'll be doing forward controls and taller sissy bar /luggage rack.  I'm used to having stuff on the Road King.
Howie, maybe I'll trailer this down to the May GTG's.  I'll swing by NYC and pick y'all up and Joy can ride with "lil banana"

WooHoo!!! Great post!!! Congrats on your new beauty Phil!!! Best of luck with it!!! You're gonna love the way it rides. Try the bike with the mid controls first before you jump into the FC's. I have a beautiful set of Hurst FC's I just took off Joy if you're interested. Sissy bar and luggage rack are right out of the HD catalog. And it would be great to share the trip in May with ya!!! :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

Welcome aboard fdr! Thanks for joining us here. Nice bike! Almost bought the same bike in '94, the last year of non-CVO FXR's. Stupid me bought a Dyna instead. And black beauties are my favorites!!!

How many miles on her? Sounds like it might be the comp sprocket, especially with everything else you already checked. Let us know if that's what it was. And never be afraid to ask for help here. Great group you'll find!

Good luck with the troubleshooting and repair. And enjoy this Great Site!!! :2vrolijk_21:

in this case, yes

you can also get the 'quick detachable' sissy bar and luggage rack ..... it fits the dyna and fxr also .............  I'd have the detachable set already if I wasn't so dang cheep

Nice looking ride you just got !!  I'm sure you'll enjoy it :d

Is that quick detachable also right out of the catalog?  I did not see one that said fits FXR. Thanks

let me go see if I can find my catalog, but the quick answer is yes

I was at the local shop one day and was going to buy it ..... you get two parts
one part (package) is the detachable sideplate hardware
the other package is the luggage rack

it took them a lil time to figure it out, but once they did, and I had both packages in my hand, the boxes clearly stated that they fit the dyna/fxr, and the got the numbers from the catalog on the counter

I"m looking in the 2008 HD cat .......  page 172
I don't see FXR in there anywhere

however I'm sure that you can put a pkg together from there - you might need to go to the dealer and have them help you get the right part numbers, then web shop for them, I often do this. It just requires that you double ck the guys from the shop to make sure the part numbers will in fact fit the FXR4

I stand corrected on the number of items you'll need

1) Detachable Accessory - sideplates
2) Docking Harware
3) sissy bar
4) luggage rack

Hmmmmmm

Well of course that would be "news" to me, that HD produces "side plates" that fit a Dyna also fitting an FXR in order to allow for a installation of a "quick release detachable" sissy bar and rack combo, just remember guys any HD Part # that fits a 2003 or later Dyna "might" have a more difficult time fitting an FXR since the 2003 + model years have a 150mm tire on the back with a wider fender for fitment....which "might" alter the fitment requirements for an FXR.

I am sure there are plenty of other FXR Owners that would appreciate knowing for sure if such is available to them, they were sure nice to have on my previous Dyna Low Rider, and of course are quite nice to have for my RKC.

(Anyway, I am unable to make use of the "quick release detachable" side plates along with a sissy bar and rack combo even if they proved to work since I have "altered" my FXR2 to accommodate the FXRS-CONV Leather Saddlebags which required the relocation of my turn signals and now 1 of the 3 attachment points for the leather saddlebags recepticles uses the turn signal location which wouldn't allow for a "post" for the quick release to attach itself to.) Since the saddlebags of course offer a "quick release" attachment to the FXR, I will "suffer" lol through with not having the "quick release" for the rack and and sissy bar, not affording me such "luxury"....sure would have been nice to have both however.....

Regards,

Tim

Simply a photo showing the combination of the FXRS-CONV Leather Saddlebags along with the sissy bar/rack combination.....

If anyone is interested in knowing more about such an installation simply pop up to "Reply" #3 of this thread and there is a "link" provided which goes into further detail about the installation process.

Regards,

Tim

Congratulations!!!! Great looking FXR4!!!!!

Thanks, Tim.  You should be writing an FXR manual.  It seems whatever we think about, you've done it.  Which sissy bar did you purchase as far as height goes?  I'll be placing a bag like you have on the luggage rack and want the most support I can.  Can you measure the height from the top surface of your luggage rack to the top of the sissy bar please?  My SAC bags have the pockets still inside for the low Deuce sissy bar/ backrest pad.
