2014 parts catalog
« on: August 19, 2013, 02:44:49 PM »

There were a few new motor parts in the 2014 catalog that were interesting

new COMPENSATOR page 467

SCREAMIN’ EAGLE® BIG TWIN COMPENSATOR 2
This premium compensator has been engineered with heavier
springs and increased travel to support the high torque output
associated with high compression race and large displacement
engines. Designed to outperform the Original Equipment
compensator, this unit helps protect the engine and driveline
components during harsh drag race launches. Compensator
features improved oil passages, oil deflectors and a needle
bearing thrust washer that improves the overall operation of
these components.
42200064 $299.95

New increased capacity oil pan page 464

SCREAMIN’ EAGLE HIGH CAPACITY OIL PAN 2
Keep your engine running cooler with by increasing your
Touring bike’s oil capacity. A great addition to a high-performance
motor, or for the rider that tours in extreme temperature
conditions, the Screamin’ Eagle cast-aluminum oil pan
is designed to increase the oil capacity by 1.5 quarts over
the Original Equipment pan. Increased capacity means the
oil cycles through the engine less frequently and the oil can
remain in the pan for a longer period of time. The cast-in internal
baffles manage the flow to the oil pickup, and keep the hot
oil exposed to the heat-conducting ribbed aluminum sump. Kit
includes cast aluminum oil pan and pan gasket.

It comes with a mirror which can be placed on the floor under the pan when parked, so you can read the Screamin' Eagle script on the bottom of the pan...they wrote it backwards on purpose...

They have so many SE compensator revisions now they are probably running out of part numbers.

Nah....they're just on the "W" version now.  They've still got X, Y, and Z. ;)

Anyone else notice how they just use the ideas provided by the aftermarket lately, rather than actually invent their own stuff?  Last year it was the AIM variable pressure clutch pressure plate painted Harley orange, now it's the oil deflectors invented by a guy over on one of the other Harley forums to get lube into the POS compensator, and of course the Baker extra capacity oil pan.  I hope Harley is actually paying those other folks for the licensing rights to those products and not just ripping them off.  And btw, $600 for a cast aluminum oil pan is ridiculous, so of course the folks who seem to think spending five times what something is really worth makes them cool will jump all over it.  Personally, I'd rather have the one that says Baker on it for that kind of coin.

I've looked at the Baker +1.5 pan... but I have yet to see any credible research documenting how much it really COOLS the oil to justify that hefty $600 pricetag...

Plus, oil changes are expensive enough without needing 1.5 quarts MORE each time!

Yes, you are absolutely right. It will just take little more time to heat up additional oil when stuck in traffic. :nixweiss:

In theory the extra capacity would mean that the oil sits in the pan cooling off longer before it goes back into the engine, with everything else being the same.  So perhaps the average oil temperature would be slightly lower.  I haven't seen any documented test results stating an actual verifiable decrease in oil temps using the larger pan however, and when I don't see real numbers, especially when it would be very easy to run tests to compare the stock pan versus the plus 1.5 pan, it leads me to believe that the actual numbers aren't very impressive and thus the seller didn't choose to include them in the ads.  If I wanted to blow $600 I can think of a whole lot of other stuff liable to provide more of a real benefit.

I'd apply the $600 for the oil pan and the $300 for the compensator to an ESP.  Gonna need it sooner or later even with these 'new improved' high dollar parts.   :'(

I would like to know the changes in the Rushmore project 110's (cvo touring bikes) compared to the other 110 motors in the cvo deluxe and breakout. I would like to know if they fixed some of the issues and improved it before I would consider buying one.

Acts like a Heat Sump and will take longer to cool off once back out in the open spaces cruzin.

Got my 2014 Genuine Motor Parts & Accessories Catalog today.
888 pages, and I looked at each one. (YES, I went fast through the Sporty, Softail and V-Rod section)
Only saw one thing I had to have.
Part # 42300009.
But I have a question before I buy.
Will the air in that extension affect my final readings?
Or should I add a pound to compensate?
Sounds like a Jerry GRC  or Scott question.
Either way that part will make checking a lot easier.

Think about it this way Chip.  40 psi (for example) is 40 psi.  Whether the overall volume is minisculely changed by the extension or not the pressure is what you're interested in.  Only way the extension might impact any final tire pressure would be if you take so long getting the extension off the valve stem that you bleed air out of the tire.

And, just a guess, but I'll bet in practice you'll find it's no easier if not more difficult getting that long hose threaded on to and then off of a difficult to access valve stem than it is to use an air chuck or gauge with a good angle to it.  It certainly won't save any time.

Is it just me, or does the upper part of the new ventilated batwing fairing look a bit like a Baboon's head?

That's funny right there  :huepfenlol2: and no, it isn't just you.

And, just a guess, but I'll bet in practice you'll find it's no easier if not more difficult getting that long hose threaded on to and then off of a difficult to access valve stem than it is to use an air chuck or gauge with a good angle to it.  It certainly won't save any time.

I have one and I only used it once at home.  But, that's not the reason I bought it.  If you ever try finding air when you are on the road, you'll be very glad to have this when you find out that you can't get access to your valve stems otherwise.  Of course, I keep a compressor in my saddlebag so I don't have to worry, but one of these days it won't work when I need it most.  For the price, these were a great Christmas gift I got for my local riding buds last year.

That's a good idea Dave.  Hadn't hit it from that angle.  I rarely worry with finding air on the road when traveling as I do what it sounds like you do.  Grab the little portable compressor on the hotel parking lot in the morning if needed.  But there will be that day someday when something breaks.  And Murphy (not the Canuck but the bad luck guy) being the bastard he is will then have the closest air chuck at some weird angle or made for semi wheels and it won't work on the bike.

I like the paint on the CVO Mandrill better. Not sure if it has an LED headlight tho...  :2vrolijk_21:

So instead of calling it a "batwing" should the new fairing be call the "baboon face"?  That way we are keeping up with changes HD makes and can distinguishes the different model that we are discussing?

Actually the baboon comparison is fairly accurate both in appearance and behavior. I've watched them in the wild, sometimes they are raising cain and running WFO, sometimes they sit around and won't do anything but pick their arse!

I've looked at the Baker +1.5 pan... but I have yet to see any credible research documenting how much it really COOLS the oil to justify that hefty $600 pricetag...

Plus, oil changes are expensive enough without needing 1.5 quarts MORE each time!

Ken

If you look at Baker's website, they show the numbers on how much additional cooling it provides.  They show it based on different ambient temperatures, etc. and sitting in traffic.  Their numbers don't seem like they are blowing smoke, as the average is only 16 degrees lower, and stopped in traffic, only 1 degree difference.  Theirs is actually $795, and that's not the diamond cut show model.  Yes, they actually have diamond cut models available...and chrome.  Those are more expensive and nowhere does it mention an included mirror.  ;D
