electric motorcycles

Victory is going to race a electric motorcycle at the Ile of Man.  Again showing the engineering skill over Harley's display bike. One company is ran by motorheads and one by bean counters

There are several brands out there that build electric bikes.

This one seems pretty cool. 0-60 in 3.3 sec is impressive!

Good article from last year that covers the majority of current options. Like an electric car, the ability for "instant" acceleration should make for a very fun bike!

Going to be hard to not hear a motor though. Part of the experience whether it is the thump thump of a v twin or the scream of a liquid cooled 4 cylinder as it hits 10K RPM is the sound and would be missed I think.

May have to revert to what we did as kids....cards in the spokes!

That should be good for a laugh! I can see it now... resembling a horse race where one of the horses goes lame and all the other horses go flying past. The Victory bike may start off ok, but after around one lap in the gasoline bikes will pass it as the battery runs down.

My bike needs to run well for the usual 300 mile rides.

At this point, I don't think that their goal is to build a long distance hauler. Will need new technology to produce batteries not available yet. These are going to be marketed as an alternative for city commuting. Electric motors can have sick performance and if you only need to travel around town, may be an interesting option.

I think that Victory has some balls to do this.  Like most car and motorcycle manufactures, they use the race track to refine their product.  It is telling that HD does not have the same confidence in their electric motorcycle to do the same.  It is better to try and fail then to never try at all.  Thumbs up to Victory.  :2vrolijk_21:  :2vrolijk_21:

"The SES TT Zero Challenge class event for electric motorcycles is a one-lap race round the island’s 37.73 mile Mountain Course scheduled for Wednesday, June 10, 2015."

OK. I see it will only be racing against other electric motorcycles and only for one lap of approximately 38 miles. I didn't think it could keep it up for a full TT race with the big boys.

Just saw the Avengers Age of Ultron movie that had a cameo performance of the HD electric bike called the LiveWire. Cool looking bike. Reminds me of a Ducati Monster a bit.  :2vrolijk_21:

Took the Livewire on a test drive yesterday - WOW! Instant acceleration, it feels like you could leave the pavement when you crack the throttle. It slows down very fast when you back off on the throttle so very important to use your brake as I could see getting hit from behind very easily. They said the prototypes were worth around $165k and will all be destroyed when they are done. They are not sure where they are gong from here or when one would be available to market. I just went out of curiosity and I was signed up and on in 20 minutes after watching the video.
