Is it possible to convert saddle bag locks to automatic
« on: May 22, 2015, 09:53:30 PM »

I have a 2014 SERK with keyless FOB ignition.
Is it possible to convert stock, manual saddle bags locks to automatic locking, electric?
I haven't been able to find a "kit" on HD website...
Thanks

That is a feature on the CVO Ultra Glides, etc.  I would imagine with enough money it could be done... but would more than likely be extremely costly because of the running wiring, etc.  Plus having to add the button to the handlebars to do it.  If you research it more and find out....let us know!

Harley did offer a kit in the catalog many years ago to add electric bag locks, shortly after they introduced the feature on the CVO Ultras, but it disappeared after a year or so.  Very expensive, and I assume not many people thought it was worth the price at that time.  Now you would have to build your own "kit" from the parts catalog one piece at a time, and the price would definitely be eye opening.  I've never heard of anyone actually doing it, but it wouldn't surprise me to find there is at least one person out there who at least tried.

Yup, that's the instructions for the kit I mentioned from back in 2008.  The actual kits however are obsolete.  See if you can find those part numbers in the catalog.

It's not the same system that was used later with the fobs but I did the switched version as a manually created retrofit on a few bikes (starting with my own).  Had to fab a harness from scratch as at the time there wasn't anything else.  It was a pretty easy retrofit though.  If it gives any insights (positively or negatively) as to how you might proceed here's an old thread showing what was done several years ago.

If you have the new style saddlebags on your 2014 road king the lock kit mentioned above will likely not work for you.  some of the parts would work such as the receiver and the fobs etc, but the locks would be different.
you would have to piece it out on the microfiche from the newer cvo's that have it.     I did run across a dealer in the UK that I have purchased hard to find parts from in the past that has one of the old kits on his website for anyone with old style bags that is interested ...

http://www.jerseyh-d.com/products/196479-kit-power-locks-tourpak.aspx

here is a link to the microfiche for the newer style lock parts ...  you would also need to go to the section for the receiver lock / unlock switch and harness plug as well ....  you would also have to find alternate locations to mount the receiver and switch ...     but anything is possible given time and money ....   ;D
