We have hand me down Road Master gear from my wife's aunt and uncle. We're very please with it. No issues at all. I do like the thought of some Hi Vis gear though. We got caught in the rain on every trip last year. We started packing our safety vest we got with the Steel Toe tour we took at the York Plant last May and wear them also when we get caught in the really hard rain.

I've ridden through lots of rain. We have to be careful with plastic or rubberized gear because of hot pipes. I find my chaps and heavy leather jacket works fine for short to mid runs, but if you're  looking at hours on the road, Exelement is a good choice based on your description.

Have the HD FXRG gear from a few years ago - the Goretex suit. Expensive but very high quality. Been through some heavy rain and it kept me dry as a bone. Highly recommended!

Gotta disagree with Donald P. Have had the same Hi-Vis for 13yrs. If you are careful with the neck area, bone dry. Really wanted the FXRG, but don't play in the rain enough to justify.

+2 on the HD Hi-Vis.  Keeps me dry and very visible.  Not too cold in FL  so warmth is not an issue!

I have HD rain gear and very happy with it. Now the old cheap HD stuff I had for years now that was junk. Not enough Velcro on the legs and they would blow up like a baloon :'(

Ride over to Duluth and check out Aerostitch. The Darien light pants or AD1 pants are great.

Anyone have experience with the new Gerbing heated rain gear.......I think it's FX? The only thing I heard was to bulky to pack because of protective elements.

Who makes the best rain gear?  IMO, nobody....I have yet to spend little or lots on "rain" gear and ride all day in the rain and remain dry.  I don't have any rain gear anymore.  I know I'll get kickback on this but it's from my experience I speak and I can't justify the cost vs the results anymore.  The cheap stuff is just that, cheap.  The expensive stuff (and I'm talking the goretex suit I used to have...cost me $$$$) did work for a while but water WILL find a way in somewhere.  Just my opinion not to waste anymore money on these items....

I'm in Minnesota so warmth is a big deal. Even rain in June is cold when it comes down.

++

I have been using their stuff for about 15 years and love it. I have a BMW 1200 LT so I was using the Darien pants and the Darien high viz jacket. The jacket does not go so well with a tribal orange Harley, but I have been using the pants still.

I have my eye on the brown Falstaff they sell though, love the look of waxed cotton.

My wife and I both have HD rain gear!  It had a great job for us. She has the heavy duty and I have the lighter version. Both worked well. I like the lighter version because it is so much smaller when packed. I do agree that you always get a litte wet no matter what gear you have but I just try to keep the majority off of me. I have tried many different brands and didn't want to spend a fortune so we have been very happy with the HD products.

The best is the one that keeps you dry. I also have the HD rain gear and have ridden all day in the rain. My only complaint is with the Hd waterproof gloves are a pain to put back on when your hand are damp at the gas station. You need to be wearing waterproof boots cause if your feet get wet the rain gear don't matter.

I hope all the flooding in the pan handle will not affect the rally. I saw car lots with water up to the handles on the news this morning.  I think Panama Beach is east from Penescola and hopefully didn't get hit as hard. Don't get me wrong I am sorry anyone had to go through all the flooding I was just discussing the impact to the rally. A few years ago we went and it rained goign there, the whole time we were there and just a part of the way back. We felt lucky whiel we were there and timed most of the riding between storms and got to sit under tents or in buildings while it rained. Actually we met a lot of people and had a good time while waiting it out!    Safe travels and have fun!

You're getting ready to move to Colorado, you might want to look at the Gerbing outter wear.  Not only is it heated, it also works as rain gear so you're only packing one suit that covers both conditions.  And, much lighter than leathers and keeps you much warmer in the colder weather.

Do a search for Gerbing here on this forum.....I did a review here somewhere.

Rain gear that "breathes" such as GoreTex or similar for me is much better than the rubber/vinyl type suits.  Never owned FroggToggs, never cared for them.  We have used GoreTex PacLite for several years & it works reasonably well.  Light enough for warmer season rains so that the inside is not as wet with sweat as the outside, & in colder rain works well as an outer layer.

Would get heat shield type rain pants since when you stop on a wet road you don't want a melted pant leg sticking to your pipes.

No rain gear is "perfect".  When I began riding a very long time back, a trash bag with armholes was my gear of choice.  So for me anything from there was an improvement.

Unless am riding for quite a while into rain, I rarely stop to gear up anymore unless the cold temp requires it.  A good leather jacket & my leather legs have taken me up & down many, many miles of rainy wet roads relatively dry.  Dependant upon the amount of rain & the temp my leather works very well.  But if it's cooler & not just a lighter shower - we usually gear up.  If am 15-30 minutes from my last stop of the day or from home I just ride through it.

Get waterproof boots.  Gaitors over boots are a PITA. Buy a suit size large enough to allow a layer over so it can be worn as outer gear for those really cold wet days.  Good seam seals & good flaps over zippers are your friends on rainy days.

 ;D  good times!

Would stuff cardboard into my pants especially in front of my knees since had no chaps.  Newspapers inside my shirt if cold & forgot a jacket.  If rainy when I got home would pour out my boots & hop n the shower as quick as possible to warm up.

Remember some very strange looks at traffic lights wearing those trashbags.   :)

Boy do I recall those days (and I do mean old days!).  Socks for gloves and anything else that would help. I started riding while in the USMC. I can still remember the day it started to rain and I decided to bring my bike in out of the rain. Well floors in the USMC are waxed very well.  Add those great floors and wet tires together and I thought I spinning on ice. At the time I thought the plastic rain suits and socks for gloves was just great!  Of course life was very simple and I lived it to the most!

Picked up some of the Hi Vis stuff off of ebay for the wife and I. Great stuff. I'll be passing along my old gear to someone in need.
