fox creek leather chaps
« on: October 30, 2014, 09:19:46 PM »

I am considering having a pair of fox creek leather chaps custom built. I was wondering if anyone here has any fox creek leather that can report on the quality of their products?

I also have worn their chaps for years and love them. Leather feels like butter at a very fair price. Have had up great and I always carry on the bike rolled up in the bag during the winter even between rides.

One thing about the custom built chaps are the fact that they are not lined and lining is not an option that I can add. However, one of the options is thicker leather. I guess if I get the thicker ones they should be plenty warm enough without a liner?? It is good to hear that they are a quality product and have good customer service.

Instead of thicker leather, try flannel lined jeans underneath, works for me in any weather!

Roy, you will like 'em.  Got a pair of the chaps that I don't use often but have had for 10 years.  They are very comfortable compared to the "off the shelf" chaps.  Fox Creek also makes some very nice leather gloves and vests (got both).  I shoulda listened to the sales person when purchasing the vest as I got it a bit small.  The gloves fit like.....well, a glove.  You will like their stuff and their customer service.

I'll add to the consensus - buy 'em. I've had a pair for years. Thick leather, very soft and pliable, warm - top quality product. And the folks at Fox Creek are top notch at customer service.

Imho, I just got the generic cheapo's that you cut to length on your own for maybe $30 many, many moons ago, and they still work great. They definitely are not fancy, but I don't care about that. Like someone mentioned earlier, I have a couple of pair of flannel lined Wrangler jeans that I wear in the cooler weather, that by themselves are good down to about freezing.  Frankly, I've only used the chaps a few times, as I'm not the type to wear them unless I have to. I know some like wearing them year around for better protection and in those cases, perhaps the custom jobbers make more sense.

Guess I'd have to endorse them, as I did on their website.  Been wearing them since 2003 and they are just now looking broke in.  I had a shoe repair guy in town sew in some rip stop over the knee area inside to make them slide on my knees better.

Great Quality Chaps2012-06-27

Last fall I ordered a pair of custom chaps and used them many times in the Minnesota weather. Recently, four of us made a 3000 mile trip through Kansas to Colorado, up the mountains to Yellowstone and back through the Black Hills. It was beautiful. All three of the other guys had chaps with exposed silver zippers and they all failed. They were holding them on with bungee cords, bandannas, and Velcro straps by the end of the trip. Mine performed flawlessly. When you need them, the quality had better be there, and yours was. When leaving Jackson Hole at 38 degrees, they would have happily paid another $30-$40 for chaps that would stay together. Thanks for making a great product. When they wear out, I'll order another pair.

I have bought jackets and gloves over the years, from the store in Independence,VA
Excellent quality and customer service.

From what I have heard, a lot of the products are made locally to me, Union, NJ area. But, I can't find the place.

They still honor the CVO 10% discount. I got it on a pair of their deerskin lined gauntlet gloves that just arrived yesterday. Fox Creek products are top notch.

You need to write the text from the thread into the order comments, or call them. There is no discount code.

And ditto on the flannel-lined jeans. I have a pair of L L Bean ones that are comfy down to 40... which is about as cold a temp as I ever want ride in anyway, and not very often at that!

Ken

I just ordered a little over $200 from them.  They gave me $10 off on a vest.  The response from Fox Creen to my confused reply was as follows:

"This post [the one that says we get 10% off] was from 2008. At that time we may have given a 10%, but it has changed since, even for gloves. We offer $25 from jackets, $15 from chaps, and $10 from vests. Smaller items such as gloves $5."

They still make great products!!
