Has anyone found LED headlights for the Road Glide? I've searched everywhere and found nothing. Dealer was no help
-
Yeah, GH has some for sure. Maybe he will post soon.
-
Have never seen an LED headlight for the oval shaped Road Glide light. Ironic thing is the round light that's newly available for the Electra Glides would also work in the old Tour Glides. It's just another 7" round light. But when the Tour Glide begat the Road Glide the new bike got the oblong dual bulb housing. Never seen an LED light for that.

I've had these HID's in the SERG for 2 yrs without problems. http://www.xenonlink.com/H4+Bi-Xenon+HID+Kit/H4+Bi-Xenon+6000K/H4+Bi-Xenon+6000K+Automobile+HID+Kit.html
Inexpensive and lights up the road very well. But no LED's here.

My bad fellas....I thought it was HID's not LED's he was after!! :-* :drink:

I talked to the Rep's that supply Kuryakyn the LED lights (Truck Light I think From Falconer, NY). They said they could make LED Headlight in any shape and said they may design a set for the Roadglide.

If they made a good set of LED Headlights for the Road Glide that are plug and play, the MOCO will lose a lot of revenue from not being the first to do so. Can you imagine all of the Road Glide owners who would clamore to get their hands on a great set of LED or HID lights with the proper optics, lens coatings and such.
I really wish the MOCO would do it though - hope they're listening / reading this.

I just happen to be looking into the same option for my Road Glide. First, I don't believe the headlights in the RG are oval, they look like 7" round headlights to me.
I found the manufacturer of the Kuryakyn LED Headlight is Truck-lite (http://www.truck-lite.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/GenericView?storeId=10001&langId=-1&pageName=/home.jsp (http://www.truck-lite.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/GenericView?storeId=10001&langId=-1&pageName=/home.jsp)). They offer the headlight at $299 list.
I also found a retailer selling them in pairs for $490.
http://www.discountfleetsupply.com/tlc27250c-p.html (http://www.discountfleetsupply.com/tlc27250c-p.html)
Now that I found these, please play guinea pig - buy them, try them and report back to us :)
-
The headlights in the Road Glide are not 7" round. They are oval shaped and only offered on the Road Glide - hope this helps. The headlights you found DesertHog will not fit the Road Glide.
Respectfully speaking - no harm no worries.

They do look that way (round). But they're not as them seem on a quick look. The individual light housings are round. But those two light housings aren't separate pieces. They're part of the larger oval housing that makes up the complete two light headlight assembly.

Wow, learn something new everyday. I will have to take a closer look at the light housing. They sure have a great optical illusion going.

So I am still in the learning phase on this one. I happened across a couple of pictures of a Road Glide headlight housing assembly. So the assembly is oval and has what appears to be two 7" round headlights contained within the oval housing. What prevents me from replacing the two round headlights with the two of the Truck-Lite LED Headlights?

It's all one piece.

It's all one piece.
So if a lens cracks, you have to purchase the complete assemby, you can't just replace a headlight. What a scam.

The entire light housing; yes. Just like a lot of automobiles or the Electra Glides with the dual H9 and H11 bulbs. We're long passed the days of sealed beams. So whatever is the light housing for a particular application is what must be replaced if it's damaged.
-
Excuse me. Each headlight (there are two of them) is a individual reflector-lens unit for both domestic and euro rides. You can replace each separately.
And, the lens is not round.
See the parts book page on this page;

or, this page with a picture showing the not round shape;

I won't be able the really tell until it is apart and I can see it up close. I have the parts manual and it looks like some of the parts are sold as a group or assembly under a single part number, even though the exploded view in the manual shows a lot of parts with part numbers. If the plastic housing is somehow bonded to the lamps then disassembly might be problematic. Then again, you might just be able to chop it apart, replace the lamps and bond it back together.
I will know with certainty in a few weeks.

Well, keep us informed on your progress. It may be possible to mount the new cans in the assembly. And, as they have what appear to be flat lens still get the bezel mounted on top of them. You might lose the very top and bottom of each, but it has potential. Please take before and after pictures of the each light pattern at night for comparison and post em if it works. We'll all be thankful.

To completely flesh this out yes they are, and no they're not. It depends on the year. 09 and up has two separated reflectors that are round (or at least round-ish). They aren't a standard 7" headlight bucket though. So the LED housings in question still can't fit in the holes these reflector housings mate to. Prior to 09, however, it's as has been described previously with the entire housing and both reflectors all in one inseparable assembly.

Good job twolane clearing uo the production year differences. Thank you,
-
I know this is a year old but, thing have progressed since the question was asked. Now there is a kit for RoadGlides designed by Holeshot Choppers and it is unreal how much light they put out! There are some pics on here some where, or hit me up and I will send u some photos that I took the last couple of weeks.
These could be landing lights for 777, but all I know is I'm not getting flashed by oncoming drivers, but I sure can see EVERYTHING in front of me for a very, very log way off.
-
nice but a little pricey!
http://holeshotchoppers.com/led-lights/
-
Yeah, maybe so, but there is really nothing else on the market for a RoadGlide. I will be REALLY surprised when or if, an LED lighting system that is cheaper. We have basically 2 regular full sized (although not round) headlights and when u start adding the cost of a couple of any standard size (won't work) and they add up to a lot more than HoleShot Choppers complete system including the plug and play with the electrical.
I have been looking at doing this for a long time and could not find a way forward short of doing what Big Jim has done here. As soon as I saw his, I knew I could build something if I could get the lights themselves, I would've spent a bunch more time and money to try and get to where I am with 650 well spent dollars!! :D
-
I have something similar to the Bi-xenon---http://www.xenonlink.com/H4+Bi-Xenon+HID+Kit/H4+Bi-Xenon+6000K/H4+Bi-Xenon+6000K+Automobile+HID+Kit.html
They work really well and you use the original RoadGlide light housing, just change the bulb and install the ballast.
-
Here's another, slightly more radical, option:

Here is a current view of my HoleShot lighting and I am happy as punch!

Just an FYI, I was at HD University in April, we were told the LED headlight system for RG is in developement and engineering right now. The two hold ups are cost, and weight. Once those are worked out it will be in production. We were told the LED system is currently three times the weight of the stock system and that is a big deal with the way it is mounted.
-
Can someone educate me for a second. It looks like LED lights don't require a ballast , like the HID aftermarket lights. Is that correct?

I don't know how they could possibly make it weight more than stock, but 3 times as much??? Wow it will be interesting, I wonder if they are using glass?? In the mean time, I can see great!!!
-
I don't ride very much at night...... so these have never been a big priority to me, however, having said that, the lamps on the RG are terribile, we know this & so does HD, I anticipate HIDs or LEDS being offered in plug & play soon from someone, & I'll be frist in line to purchase when they are available. :(

HID's are already plug and play, especially if you don't get both high and low beams...all you really need is the low beam to be HID. The only issue with HID's is the HD garage door opener will probably not work, but there are a couple of work arounds for that issue.
LED's are great, but I ain't paying $700 + for a headlight. But, that's just me...
-
Yes they cost more, but they will last a million years.... think of the children :)
-
I hope that no one else buys them, right now they are a one of a kind setup here and I like that. The lighting is the best on RG's of any bike out there once u get the HoleShot Chopper kit installed. I rode with 700+ people a couple weeks ago and the cops told me after the ride that my lights stood out better than any other bike in the ride.

I did the LED's headlight and LED spots for the 11.5 SEUC today.
I held the stock light and the LED headlight in each hand before installation.
The LED light is much heavier.
I can imagine that with two LED headlights that are heavier than the stock lamps there may be issues with the brackets that would support the led lights.
I guess not only did Harley have to have oval LED headlights made but also had to redesign the assembly that holds them.
I will wait for the Harley RG LED's.

Good 4 u.

And u need to compare these to stock, not some other brand or design. And those things that u are stating as fact, are not true in this case. And so far they have not broken and fallen out as u imply. Small minds don't ever advance any idea to reality... I had thought that u were someone that seemed to have an open mind...
-

It's funny when those that feel a need to promote their own agenda are really the ones that don't listen to others.
And those things that u are stating as fact
I only stated two facts in my post.
1) The Harley LED light is heavier than stock.
2) I will wait for Harley to produce their own LED headlight for the RG before I buy any.
When I use terms such as "I guess" or "I can only imagine" that really means it's just my opinion.
Those opinions may be proven as fact at some point, but that has yet to be determined.
I do know that when installing the LED light in the 11.5 SEUC extra screws were added to help support the extra weight.
So with heavier LED lights from Harley mounted in stock brackets I suspect different or modified brackets for the RG might be a good idea.
(please note the use of "I suspect or might" means it's just my opinion, not fact)
;D

Two? The fitment description says 2004 and newer Chip.
Don't have a clue why though. My old SERG has the much newer model international light housing. Have swapped light housings in to a couple of other older Road Glides also. No idea what HD's disqualifying distinction is from 03 to 04.

Appreciate y'all taking one for the team! I get home from Afghanistan in late Jan... please have plenty of pics and feedback on how they look/work posted by then! :2vrolijk_21: ;D
While it would make it a BIT harder to "sneak" a few mods in under mama's nose (not like I really have to... lol), but I may put together a list of stuff and have the shop back home order them and come pick up my bike, so they'll be installed and ready to roll when I get home!

What I got from the video was that other than the LED lights on the SERGC evrything else was old news.
The ironic part was that as the video was playing the line above the video read.
