Is it just the lighting, or are they using Yamaha bags on the '14s?

Interesting paint on the Ultra.  Looks like the same on the blue RK.  Rear seat looks changed.  Are the rear audio controls inset or is it the camera angle?

From the angle it is shot, the Ultra has a strange latch on the tour pack (1 large versus 2 small).

Paint schemes are nothing short of boring!  Where's the creativity that the 04 SEEG and the 09 SERG had and why is that creativity so rare with the MOCO?

The TriGlide looks to have a vent in the fairing.  Didn't BMW have something similar....oh about ten years ago, or so?  Just nothing new or exciting from what I see. :nixweiss:

I know it's captioned as a shot of the dash but that lower fairing looks very different, glove box looks fixed and an inner skin.

Look closely at the saddle bag crash bar, comes out from under seat and turns downward; also wider, looks like the bags are wider.

Everything looks wider, taller, larger.....nothing sleek about it from these pics.

And unfortunately "wider, taller, longer" usually translates to heavier.
At approx 950 lbs it's already a heavy bitch.

x2 on the glove box,..also you would think they could splash out to fit a lock to the box :-\

The what it looks like to be a vent in the fairing would not surprise me. They must have to have a way to cool the wiring and so on that's crammed in the fairing.

I can't wait to see, , , will this be the year, , , they finally add decent chrome hinges to an almost $40K bike?
Or does the tool kit contain a spare set of lifters?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Closer look of tour pak, no more lights along bottom edge, tour pak now has a step in it, I think that allows new wider saddle bag lids to clear the tour pak when you open them.

It might look better in person and the radio may or may not be modern and better than sliced bread.  But....  spatially that's a mess.  No sense of of proportion.  Looks as bad as some of the aftermarket add-on fairings for Road Kings.

I'd rather have my GPS in my line of sight, not way the hell down where this one is at. Makes ya wonder if any of the designers actually ride anymore.

The bikes usually look better in person, than in the pictures.  For the MoCos sake, best hope so this year.  Paint looks .... blah.  In person probably better as usual.

In this case, it looks like a huge miss on the inner fairing from the pics. Instead of placing a multi function touch screen up higher, they buried it low so they could put 4 huge gauges where the screen should have gone.  If done well, the screen could have incorporated the gauges as well as the radio and GPS.  The huge amount of real estate chewed up by big honking gauges seems dumb poorly thought out.  Why not something better than what else is out there? This placement puts the GPS well below line of sight, and agree with TB - does anybody actually ride these things, for real, first?  Screen should be at side mirror height or so to be more user friendly.

Anyway, most of the guesses this year were right, kudos to the Pool Boy (finally).  Still wondering about the handlebar controls change? - will find out soon enough. Looks like a seat redesign too or maybe just a different style but backrest spot looks changed.

For the guinea pigs lucky new owners of these H2O fancy screened single latch TP 2014s, best of luck.  Looking forward to what real riders have to say about them, as opposed to website info or industry mag hype.

:o  Agreed!  Looks like HD is copying the competition.  The bags and tourpaks seem more rounded and copy the competition also.  Waiting to see it in person but from the early pics, well.....

Now I know why they did not want to reveal them at Sturgis.  With the newly "redesigned" fairing people would have walked right past them and fawned all over the new Indian fairing.  They also would have to have dealt the 100's of thousands of hard core Harley riders tossing their cookies.

In the end it was best for them not to compete with Indian at Sturgis.  They would have been scalped and they knew it.

although i was reluctant at first, my 13 SERK has grown on me.
imo, it looks like the CVO RK/SERK has seen its best year in 2013.
no lowers and no audio? i thought the idea was to go forward not backwards.
unless the price is dropping substantially i don't see the value in the 2014 SERK.

From the pics I saw of the Indian fairing, it looks way worse than the HD redesign.  But it's sort of like comparing 2 different bowling shoes for style quality. Just my opinion.

:)1st, I'm very glad I have my '12 CVO Ultra

2nd, I can appreciate trying to make design changes on bikes that their riders are passionate about and opinionated, MoCo should realize that we keep telling them what we want - just make them  :nixweiss:

3rd, the vent in the windshield is not needed.  If the shield is sized properly then there is more than enough air for the rider.  All those scoops do is make a nice bug net.  They are really attractive after a ride when you walk up on the front of the bike.

4th, I hope to God they did not mess with any TP lights.  We need all the visibility we can get out there with the cages.

5th ....

Hmmmmmm, I was expecting "something". Appears all they did was add some new paint, a new stereo and hood scoops on the fairings.

I guess a vrod water-cooled touring bike will never happen.

So much for the big news.  :nixweiss:

Well, I have gone over the Harley site for all of the models... and I must say that I am not very impressed at all.

Yeah, the new radio screen looks nice... but as was pointed out here, I don't want my GPS down low like that. I like my 665 right where it is... up on the left side of my fairing where I can reach it easily with my left hand.

I like my fairing much better. I don't like that FUGLY vent in the new fairing at all... ruins the upper look completely. And, as was mentioned, it's a bug trap.

I don't like the more rounded look of the bags, either. They now look more like metric bags to me. The Tour Pak lines are OK, but I don't like losing the side lights.

Losing the bag speakers and the lowers with speakers on the CVO RK? WTF? THAT's a big step down! The '14 SERK is underwhelming, to say the least. Last year's SERK paint was more interesting, too.

The CVO Deluxe looks quite good, but it isn't my cup of tea. The CVO Breakout is very nice, but I like the 2013 paint better.

The Touring paint jobs are once again less and less interesting, with less creative graphics. Honestly, I think 2012 was the height of creativity for CVO paint across the line. I like the new candy orange, but it's only on the Ultra... not the Limited nor CVO Limited. The new Amber Whiskey is OK, but is too yellow and not orange enough for me. The CVO Limited colors and scheme are just BORING. Frankly, they look like a Lexus or Infinity... which is the crowd the new CVO Limited seems to be aimed at anyway, with it's mind-bending $39K price tag. My wife's Mercedes turbo 250 costs less than that!

I don't get the SG Special at all... what's so "special" about it?

Oh, and NO mention of liquid cooling ANYWHERE on the Harley site! Maybe they decided not to release it... Or maybe they just don't want to talk about it.

I think the MoCo is really losing their way and their heritage. They aren't making motorcycles anymore... they are making increasing mundane two-wheeled luxury cars for the smaller and smaller number of people who can afford a CVO these days.

The MoCo has probably gotten their last new bike out of me. But I have the Honey Badger... and neither of us give a CHIT!

I am very partial to that one myself.  Lots of looks at it from lots of riders.

Yeah, you're right. I like the '12 SEUC... but the '10 SEUC was the prettiest! I almost bought one in the orange.

although i was reluctant at first, my 13 SERK has grown on me.
imo, it looks like the CVO RK/SERK has seen its best year in 2013.
no lowers and no audio? i thought the idea was to go forward not backwards.
unless the price is dropping substantially i don't see the value in the 2014 SERK.

While I love my 13 SERK, rides great.  The lowers are way to hot in the summer.  The music can not be heard over 60 mph, the speakers take up way to much space in the Saddle bags.  So, if they drop the price 1500 dollars it would be a good deal if you ask me.

Ken
I sure agree with the comment about the pain on the 13 SERK compared to the 14 SERK.  I hate the lowers in the summer.  The speakers in the bags take up too much valuable space, can't hear them over 25 mph anyway.  The front speakers cant be heard over wind noise at 60 plus.  I have seriously considered removing my lowers.

With the tune on my 13, it runs a bit cooler than my 12 CVO.  However the lowers trap way more heat on my right leg...

I think my wife will fall in love with the new CVO Deluxe, she is really into the nostalgic look.  I like the looks of it in the blue and white.

My dealer just posted this on their FB page - seems like the rumors are true.

They are saying that the heads are partially liquid cooled.

These are pics from the Street Glide...not sure if I like those controls or not.

The flat button above is apparently the trip switch according to the HD website

Saddlebags can be opened with one hand. So if this is on the inside of the lid, are the outside lid latches functional as well?

I didn't see anywhere in the HD site that the CVO Glide has water cooling- only redesigned venting. I would think something as "revolutionary" as that would be plastered all over.

Maybe the the water cooling is on the lesser models  :nixweiss:

Nope.  Ultra Limited, CVO Limited, and Tri-Glide.  H2O.  If you pull up the Ultra (FLHTCU), and use the 360* viewer, it looks like that bike has rads too.  Looks like it was last minute to limit it to the three above.

They say the new TP can hold TWO full-face helmets... Although I can't see how. It doesn't look quite as tall as the previous KTP, but maybe it's wider. The front of it slopes rearward now, instead of forward... So there should be significantly more room there.

You really think from a marketing perspective they've done well here by not touting the system at all?  I get the impression they're afraid of their own (wet) shadow.  But nowhere do they use the words wet or water.

It's a band aid attempt at water cooling for sure.  The only thing they're surrounding is the exhaust valve.  Hell, I'd be embarrassed by the effort too.  Especially when I had to hang all that chit in the front for one water circuit around a single valve on each side.  But it's still (by MoCo standards a significant change.  So yell it from the roof tops.  It's not like they have the option of going back after all.  Rest of at least the touring model line will have to follow on eventually.  So make your damned case.  Explain why it's necessary and what the gains now and in the future can be.

But... we forget, Harley doesn't actually sell.  They expect us to come them "just because."  Because we always have.  So if something really is radically different they're afraid we'll pull a Monty Python or a Doctor Who and "run away, run away."  It's a pusillanimous way to pitch your product MoCo.

Just checked, the CVO Ultra Limited weighs 944 pounds.
I love the bikes but they need to be lighter!
That weight is a deal stopper for me.
I guess Harley forgot to check the demographics of their customers.
As we get older 944 pounds is a bunch.

About 200+ lbs. heavier than the BMW touring models.  Not sure how it compares to a Wing.

Doesn't matter how much it weighs anyway.  I'll got no interest in a new Harley and can't see ever buying one...  They've burned their last bridge with me.

Really!? :nixweiss:  :P

Just sharing what I have found in other forums/sites.  It is the same setup as in the 2014 CVO Limited with the Twin Cool engine... geez!

As soon as someone is close to a CVO we will get the same photos from it.  :2vrolijk_21:

Whatever - that picture is not a CVO bike. The paint, lack of a "When we added the signature badges, we did it with metal" metal badge and rubber brake pad make it an regular bike.

$40K and the first thing I would do is get the wrap around painted to match - it never ends...................

Not sure, but the new tour pak sure looks a lot smaller than the old ones.  It appears that the sides are shorter.

The tourpac needs to be bigger to hold some of the stuff that you can't put in the saddlebags and lower fairing pockets now that they used up that storage space.  Of course, I might retrofit that cute lil overflow bottle for my oil blow-by catch.  Nifty idea.  har.  spyder

H'mmm, a catch bottle attached to my new port to install on my dipstick for excess pressure to keep it from blowing out and covering the rear of the bike with oil.

Too bad that no matter how much credit we might give Mother Harley for finally updating some critical systems, making changes that get them (closer to modernity) and moving things towards what contemporary riders expect; no matter how much they've done and how hard they've tried they've still not caught up with the systems, systems integration or power supplied by a several year old Goldwing.  And the Wing will still be a little lighter.

That's why it needs to be a V-Quad Rod engine!

I am going to admit that I am Damned glad I pulled the trigger for my 13 tribal orange.  I just think that the colors for 14 are boring this year.  I have seen color plates for the standard bikes, and they were not attractive at all.  The CVO Ultra just does not give me that feeling like my 13 did when I picked her up.

More than a few times, even recently, I've wondered "what if" had the old Nova engine project gone further in development and now enjoyed years of evolution.

I think the paint schemes are pretty uninspired this year.

The CVO Limited looks OK, but the paint scheme is not as interesting as previous years.

They really messed up the SERK rear fascia with those big vertical bars over the Cadillac lights... they go with nothing else on the bike. And it doesn't have bag speakers nor lowers with speakers like the '13 SERK did. A pretty bare bones CVO bagger - but maybe that's what they were going for. Pretty expensive bike with no audio nor GPS. You can get a loaded Limited for less... doesn't make sense to spend that much for a SERK and get only what you get.

The CVO Breakout paint kinda looks like The Puffy Shirt on the bottom. A pale comparison to the AWESOME '13 paint. And the wheels are not all chrome and spectacular like the '13's were.

The CVO Deluxe looks like a HONDATail. Those ugly wagon wheels are circa Ancient E-Glide! WTF? They should have put on nice chrome laced 80-spoke wheels with those gorgeous wide whitewalls if they were going for the true nostalgic look. And the paint looks like the AMF era... hope they weren't going for THAT look on purpose.

AND WHERE DID ALL OF THE COOL TRADITIONAL FLAMES GO??? I'm not a fan of this Tribal stuff at all.

SOOO GLAD I have the Honey Badger...

PMG1, thanks for the great pictures.

It appears on the phone or iPod slot that there is a door that hinges at the top and lifts upward.  If I look at the opposite side of the screen, there seems to be another door that's closed, but is the same shape as the open door slot.  This closed area may be an extra dash cubby hole for glasses, cigs etc.

Does anyone know if that's the case?

Also, if this is what they're doing for the batwing fairing, just think what the RG fairing will be like.

Again, nice pictures...

Just checked, the CVO Ultra Limited weighs 944 pounds.
I love the bikes but they need to be lighter!
That weight is a deal stopper for me.
I guess Harley forgot to check the demographics of their customers.
As we get older 944 pounds is a bunch.

And to think they could have added REVERSE, for us old guys that don't want busted ba....s!!

Sure did.  With fuller implementation of the CAN bus they'll regain so much physical space and systems capacity that used to go to harnesses.  Systems evolution might bring a host of new options.  Or in 10 years those will be the "nostalgic button covers" whose only use was to be covered by P&A chrome covers.

Nice routing on the water pipping above the air intake manifold. Lets Super Heat the air after the MAP Sensor has already determine the intake air pressure and temperature!

That's why it needs to be a V-Quad Rod engine!

I don't think a V Quad motor would be any good. I owned a V Rod and they live above 5k rpm and red line above 10k. Not to mention they have a lot of HP and no TQ. In a heavy bike you need good TQ numbers to move the bike. HP numbers are for bragging rights only. I am concerned with the extra weight of the CVO Ultras.

After looking at the new bikes I really like the changes. It looks like Harley is finally trying to do something besides stick it to us with the 110 motor. I can only hope they get the motor problems fixed. I am sooooo happy I have Saphire, so the chance of me looking hard at the 14's are very slim.

From the Roadglide.org and also a few photos I took today.  And obviously, these are not photos of a CVO... so pardon the photos of a normal SG...  ...loved everything about the new bikes. .

I also took a photo looking into the side vent on the lower

Quote from: throttles&triggers;873858
I just spent several hours viewing the 2014 lineup at my dealer and, in particular, the EG Limited.  Since many have posted pics, I won't take up space with those.  I am impressed with the new touring line features overall and think most of the refinements for 2014 are beneficial.

The new batwing with the operating vent, new gauges and the infotainment center are pretty darn cool.  The vent can be fully closed or fully opened (no in between) with the touch of a flush mount button to the left of the vent on top of the dash.  The aesthetics of the front of the fairing don't bother me at all and the view from the seat is a definite update. If the vent does what it should it will make riding a Batwing much more enjoyable. The new gauges have been reduced by two as the air temp and the oil pressure information have been incorporated into the infotainment center with the appropriate selection from the screen menu.  The tach and speedo are slightly larger than the fuel and volt gauges that have been increased in size and all are easier to read than the previous model.  The daymaker lamps up front and the LED tour pak lighting will make visibilty and being visible far better than before.  Having owned a couple of Ultras in the past, I found the Limited to be very familiar but somehow more comfortable given the updates to the hand controls, bars, seating, and fairing.  The hand controls are very well designed and intuitive after a few minutes with them.  They are easy to use and are designed to allow the rider to control most of the functions without removing your hands from the grips.  The one function cruise control button is better in that you don't have to reach forward to the former rocker control, it is all one button that has been moved to the left hand control.  The trip mileage button as been moved the top of the left control and can be simply depressed with the index finger instead of reaching forward to depress.  Each side has a miniature "joystick" that scroll through the features of the infotainment screen.  After a few minutes I was navigating my way around very quickly.  The screen has touchscreen capability, as well.  The turn signals, start and kill switch buttons have not moved, but there is a single function flasher button now.  The only remaining dash mount button is for the daymaker highway lights and it is clearly marked.  There is a slick little fairing compartment on the right side of the touch screen designed for storage of an Ipod, Iphone, etc. with the port wiring already in place....very cool.  The ignition switch has been given a softer, more oval shape.  I believe all touring models have the hydraulic clutch now.

The saddlebags and tour pak look more contemporary in their softer lines and although the tour pak looks muck sleeker than before it is said to hold more.  It has a retractable tether rather than the fixed cord and seems to open wider than before.   One hand opening from the single larger latch is very easy.  The saddlebags have a very nice one hand opening latch, but inside are two metal loops that retain the latches.  The loops look like stored items could snag on them coming in or out of the saddlebags.  The liners are nicer than the previous models had.  The new front fender is trimmer and reveals more of the wheel and rotor.

I like the look of the new airbox, I think the "football" had served its time.  This sits directly behind the right side opening in the lower fairing that operates as a vent.  The new vent slides on the lower fairing do not work smoothly at all.  The vents pivot in the middle and there is a plastic slide that moves left or right to open or close the vent.  I tried this on several bikes and  if you aren't carrying some paraffin wax, forget it.  I thought I was going to break one.  The radiators and fans have been neatly concealed into the balance of the lower fairings and the appearance from the front is first class.  You do lose the storage of the glove boxes in the lowers of the twin cooled bikes.  On the RG Ultra the boxes have a hinged opening rather than the plastic to metal snap on door as before.

I did not ride any of the bikes but did fire one up.  The Limited twin cool motor has the distinct Harley sound with maybe a little more growl to it.  It is not quieter at idle as I thought it might be.  Give it the gas and it barks to life...I can't wait to go back and ride one to try the motor, suspension and brakes.

The dealership was loaded with new Limiteds, SGs, RKs, Dynas and Sportsters.  I saw one Ultra, but the SGs ruled the floor.  I did not see any 2014 softtails today.  They said the SGs were selling as fast as they could get them to the floor and they had moved several Limiteds, as well.

The SG and Limited are offered in a new color called Daytona Blue Pearl that come with their own custom striping and graphics and eliminate the metal tank badge.

I got to see a new SGS tonight. Not a bad looking bike. I like the fact that the attachment points on the bags are now "protected" from thieves with screwdrivers. It will prolly take some real thinking to get them off in under a minute like the current setup.

Yep... the new one-handed saddlebag lid latch and outward opening lids (like the Police bikes have had FOREVER) are two of the BEST things for 2014...  :2vrolijk_21:

That will probably change after the first time down the road where you didn't either a) get the rear clip in or b) get both clips in half way in and the lid pops open on you.

The MoCo's drivel about being able to open the storage compartments without having to put your stuff on the ground is close to being on the mark.

Ok.  I understand.  What I do is pull up on the lid and tell if one, the other or both clips caught.  I can do this seated (not that it is comfortable :-\).  If I am not in the saddle and standing in front of the bag, it's that much easier.  I always operate under the premise of securing the load.  Who doesn't right?

On putting gear on the ground, heck I have a pretty big seat facing me to set me gear on while I open the lid.  JMHO, it's a nice thought, but not really practical and making me go, "wow, I gotta have that!"  Lastly, as many have brought up, the loops on the interior look like an obstacle.  Who knows?  :rolleyes4:

:nixweiss: I don't get it. My bags open out, and I don't know what the one-handed bags has over the current bag.   :nixweiss:  I can be in the saddle at a drug store drive-thru, lean over to my right, open the bag, throw in the prescription and close it all with one hand.  I'm not "showing off", but if I'm beside the bag, what's the big deal?  :nixweiss:

Yeah but are you ambidextrous?   :drink:

Yeah but are you ambidextrous?   :drink:

:drink: Yup I can drink with either hand :2vrolijk_09:.  Seriously, I only use my right bag for day-to-day storage.  My left bag stays full 365 with safety gear: rain gear, bike cover, tire repair kit and tool kit.  I used to remove those things when not on trips, but I have had too many times that a short trip becomes a road trip or I run into a situation I need the gear.   :help:

I just test drove 2014 Street Glide Special. I was impressed with the radio, not to low for GPS use, I asked and they claim it is still Harman-Kardon( the GPS warning looks just like Garmin), Blue-tooth is sweet. The touch screen works well. I liked the new style hand controls. Cruise controls are now on the left side, joy stick switches are easy to use.

The ride is great very stable and easy to throw around, Brakes worked great and very aggressive when needed, ABS worked well.

The fairing vent was not as much an eye sore as I thought it would be. I think it helped with buffeting. The gauge array was very well laid out. The front fairing to lower trim is very clean fit, no gasket to mess with. Was told no more bracket to break off inside the fairing.

Power was good and really didn't noticed alot of heat.

The new Bags are easy to open and close. The new mount system has really been beefed up. No need for Bruckus security anymore. The attachment system are totally enclosed with metal. The new way to mount detachable hardware is really sweet.

Overall better experience that I thought I would have.

I'm a real sucker for that blue one on the first page, looks great! Good idea trying to cool these engines down a little more, but not crazy about how they did it. I sure hope they beefed-up the charging system and battery for all that extra electricity being used. Just picture yourself in a traffic jam idling with all your lights on ... running lights, headlights, driving lights, brake lights, radio blaring, pushing in the cigarette lighter to have a smoke, any extra accessories you've added and now throw a pair of electric fans and water pump into the picture?? Sure ... none of us intentionally plan to get stuck in heavy traffic, but it can happen time to time even trying your hardest to stay away from it. Sounds like a lot of strain on the battery when  you know these don't charge much with extended idling until you're around 1000-1500 ... can't help the way my weird mind thinks sometimes.

I'm seriously considering a new Indian if I don't keep mine, but not sure until I see one in person and ride one. I love my bike, but often get bored with stuff when the novelty wares off and want something "new and better" when that always isn't the case ... decisions, decisions.
