CVO SG Heat from heads?
« on: August 01, 2016, 02:11:16 PM »

Do the modern CVO SG's put out a lot of heat to be concerned about?  I do have the Vance & Hines Power duals on it also.  Was wondering if the mid frame heat shields are even worth considering.  I had the Fatboy Lo prior and the heat wasn't the bad at all but that was a 103, this is a 110.

The 110 from the factory is lean which = heat to pass the epa.   The pipes will help only if tuned to allow the fuel to help cool the bike.   The other concerns you have are that the 255 have very little overlap and will also generate the heat.   The shields will help, the pipe will help, but a good tune will be the best solution combined with the shields and pipe.

Could you or anyone recommend a clean looking shield to add that is opaque (black) as opposed to those smoked versions? (I think those styles will get beat up looking in no time).  Also one that's not difficult to install.

Check out the Kuryakyn heat shields.  Mikeytee just put some on his older roadglide and was very happy with the results.

I think those are the smoked versions.  I just think I would opt for something that draws less attention to it.  Simple black.  Maybe Harley offers one?

These are at least shown to come black but are also shown with the chrome accent on them if you go to the page.

Buy the black ones from HD and have them painted to match the color of the side panel and or lower color or color of the tank. That way they blend in and don't look so "added-on".

And that is the same I have done exactly on mine, so this will prompt me to ride it for a bit and see how it feels before I order this part.  Very good info indeed my friend.
Thanks to all for the helpful advice.

CVO Harley is a great forum thanks to everyone here.

They look crappy to me, and a little less-crappy with the chrome trim.  As far as I'm concerned, they serve a better purpose in my used parts inventory, than on my Motorsickle.  More circulation, less restriction, and more comfortable, as to the under-thigh heat.  But that's just me.  I'm definitely not critisizing the way they look on anyone elses Motorsickle. And everybody knows how I LOVE chrome, or in this case, shiny plastic.  However, Maybelle looks better without them.......to me.  Later--HUBBARD

Take it over to Rosa's and have it tuned and enjoy the ride. My 2011 110" got a little toasty once in a while. My 2015 runs noticeably cooler.

I'm sure Andrew at Rosa's can do some great work, but I can't deal with a guy that has the charisma of a chair. :-\

I went from a 2012 Street Glide CVO to a 16. Headers on both, the 16 water buffalo is considerably cooler. You can throw on a pair of shorts for a Sunday ride and not fry your gonies

That looks like the Harley version heat shield.  Is that correct?  I happen to like the HD version over all the others.
