Interesting.  So now if you enter it's probably a pretty good idea to get a dealership to sponsor you (tit for tat).....it's only right if you're going to potentially throw recognition and awards their way. :2vrolijk_21:

OK, this sounds crazy but... I am thinking about doing this... I will research this some and talk to my local stealer and see what they have to say. I could do this instead of Sturgis, looks like a couple of weeks either way.

After all the bad road reports last year and discriptions of such questionable management patronizing the same event shouldn't seem like a good idea.  Does sound like a heluva ride though....

Hard not to be tempted.

Did some looking into the rules, some are a bit bizarre not sure I can agree with them... No GPS and unmarked roads would make this a 6 month trip for me (directionally challenged). The killer one for me though is No indoor sleeping, before all the implants, sure but....

It really is an asinine thing.  No matter how intriguing is the proposition.  Last year their routes were obviously not pre-ridden.  Too many roads to nowhere that too many guys couldn't find.  And the whole not allowing guys to catch 6 hours in a cheap motel and instead forcing them to sleep on a road side somewhere with the bike betrays common sense.  It's not safe to force guys to ride more and more fatigued each day doing what you know will be long days in the saddle.  I've slept by the bike with a bedroll many times.  But not on the deadlines guys will feel here.  And only when I was younger and stupider.

Slept on or near my bike many times, sometimes because i was to far gone to kick it over, thank god for kick start it's like a built in breathalyzer. The route looked cool, would love to do something like it but with a bed for most nights and no tight schedule.

I'm thinking about it. Waiting to hear back if my wife can be a passenger.

This makes no sense to me.  H-D pushes safety and responsible riding and yet they will sponsor and event that has inherent safety issues?  Same as last year in the HOG magazine that described the MD ride a guy did.  Riddle me that Joker?

Were I really interested in "their" ride I'd do it but I'd also say "screw their rules."  Hell, I wouldn't even pay their grand entrance fee.  Just show up and tag along.  Make my own variations along the way based on my own interests.  Have a grand time watching the show from the periphery when I felt like it.  And I'd shower each night.  Screw other people's stupid rules.

Here is the response I got back:

Hello,
Under the Terms and Conditions page 2, it states that passengers will only be permitted to accompany the rider if he or she is medically disabled. A medical report will be needed and a fee of $500.00. That is if you are in it for the money. If you just want to be apart of something great, see the country together and enjoy the open road with anywhere between a thousand and two thousand fellow bikers...please enjoy this journey together but you can not collect in any winnings. Any further questions feel free to email us.
Thanks,
Cassiopeia

So whats the deal with the no speeding rule. I think the hardest part of the ride would be to maintain the speed limit for 15 to 18 days. Is this strictly enforced or is it just  something the organizers have to post to get around the "no road racing laws".  I would love to give it a whirl but think the last few days would be hell on wheels.  BTW I don't condone speeding....... ::) ::) ::)
