Carlini handlebars on my Breakout
« on: May 07, 2013, 08:20:29 AM »

Okay guys, I know my bullet headlight was a complete failure with you guys so please disregard the fact that it's still installed on the bike, and tell me what you think of the Carlini 'Bag Drags' on this bike??  I think these bars complement the bike perfectly with little modification.

The front brake line will need to be lengthened about 2", but other than that, the installation went flawlessly.  :coolblue:

Here are few pictures:

the Carlini's look good on the breakout.  From the side, the headlight you installed looks good, too.  It's just the comments from the others concerning the "gap".  More than how they looks, how to the bars feel compared to stock?

I'm extremely pleased with everything about the bars.  The rise and pull back dimensions are both nearly identical to the OEM bars, so they feel great with just a couple degrees of additional grip angle.  Also, once I have a longer brake line made the bars can be turned up a bit more, but I think I like them at the current angle to keep the low profile drag look.

I'll be re-installing the OEM headlight tomorrow and I will take some pictures from the front as well.

The pipes are the correct model # for the Breakout and the fitment is perfect.

I think all your mods look good.  But I would put the passenger pillion back on, just doesn't look right to me without it-don't like the exposed bolts.

Thanks everyone for the feedback!  :coolblue:

I actually got to ride the bike for the first time today after the installation and I was very pleased with the over all ergonomics of the bars. They make the bike more comfortable to ride and seem to be a little easier to navigate around in traffic, however a little of that could be due to the fact that I dropped it a couple of inches as well...  :-\

I've had this same set of mirrors for 10 years now, mounted on my last three bikes and I love them.

+1 on the 120r.  The 110 has enough power to satisfy me for a long time to come, but more cubic inches is always welcome...

Question about the bars.  I'm currently leaning forward with the stock bars.  Are these bars closer?  I'm guessing that I'll need the bars a couple of inches closer and a couple of inches taller for a comfortable hand position.  These bars appear to do just that, just asking your opinion.

These bars are angled in more than the OEM bars, bringing them closer to your seating position, and you can rotate them up quite a bit to get a little more height if desired.

I'm 5'9" and as you can see from my picture above, I'm sitting straight up and not hardly reaching out at all.

I think these will work just fine.  Can I  get a part number, size or model name so I'm looking at the same thing when I order?

Cowboy

You can call Carlini Design direct: 714-432-9000 and ask for Rex, just tell him that you want the 1.50" Bag Drags.  Also, these bars step down for 1" risers so you'll have to order a riser adapter P/N: WO806 from 'Wild 1 Chubby Handlebars' Here is the link: www.wild1inc.com/accessories.html#adapters

Hope this helps!  :coolblue:

Hi i have a question about the bars, do the standard control cables fit ?.

The controls do fit and these bars are designed for the 'drive-by-wire', however the clamps will need to be changed out due to the step down on the OEM bars, and you will have to extend the brake line a few inches.  I haven't looked into new clamps yet, so I'm dealing with the gap this week.

Actually no one will even notice the clamp issue, unless I point it out...

Hi JL, nice ride.  Question about the risers - are those the stock risers that came with your CVO, or did you replace those when you went with the bars?

You can't change the riser without reworking the whole electrical system and relocating the speedo/tach combo, and that was the whole reason for picking this particular bar.  I'm not a fan of risers and I would much rather had put a set of clean sweeps on this bike...  :)

Or did the Carlinis just bolt straight on?
If not have you covered the gap somehow?

Dave,  I completely forgot about this issue until you brought it up! The bars fit fine with only the addition of the longer brake line and the only way to resolve the controls clamp is by replacing the controls, but for now it's not that big of an deal with me.   I can snap a picture of the problem this afternoon if you would like to see it?

This is my solution to the hardware sticking out .I made new nuts and anodized them black.

Must have the passenger pillion off so that beautiful wide fender can be seen.  I had the stock bolts powder coated...looks much improved.

Love the look of those Carlini's on your bike......but a quick question to you Breakout guys.....

On my CVO Street Glide, there is a flap built into the back of the rider's seat that is folded in to allow the passenger pillion to attach to the mounting studs.  Once you remove the pillion, all you gotta do to hide the studs is reach in and pull that flap out over the studs.....most people didn't even realize the seat has this feature for months after purchase.......Do your seats not have the same flap??

No flap, just ugly studs.  Poor design by HD to make a good looking solo seat.

Definitely thinking about the Carlini bars. IMO apes just don't look right on the BO. To each his own.
