Hot Weather Riding Gear?

It's been hot already this year and I am wondering if any of you all are using those jackets with the cold packs in them? What else is there to do?

Soak a thick sweatshirt with water.....over it wear a WELL ventilated jacket....worked pretty good on the way home from Vegas a couple summers ago.

Just picked up a AVG Sport Solare jacket from Revzilla. I had a mesh jacket from Harley, but it was still to heavy (and hot). The AVG has pretty tight mesh, but it is breathing a lot better that the Harley jacket. The whole front panel is mesh, as are the inner arms. Soft armor in the elbows, shoulders and back. It is warm if your stopped, but as soon as a breeze or speed picks up, it breathes very well.

I wanted something to run in hot weather, cause a T-shirt doenst cut it. The AVG seems to fit the bill pretty well.

WOW! What a start to the tread. :'( Hope I never meet you on the road mate.

I usually ride in a T-shirt and jeans, boots of course. A mesh jacket may protect in a fall but is still hot. I have wet the shirt down a few times and it feels great for a while but short lived. These new jackets have pockets to put cold packs in but only in the torso. I have seen no help for the legs, arms and feet. I do have a Frogg Togg(spelling?) wrap that you wet and wrap around your neck and the evaporation is cooling but still limited.

When is it just to hot to ride?

No relief for the legs, feet, and arms.  On your feet, it helps to wear some kind of wicking sock so the moisture doesn't stay next to your skin.  I'm sure the cold paks would help around your torso because they would be helping keep your core body temp down.  Evaporative cooling is only really effective when the dew point is low relative to the air temp...low humidity.  In the Southeast, it's usually humid, so that makes the hot air even worse, and there's not much you can do about it, really.

In this part of the country, when it's 95 degrees or above, it's just about too hot to ride for me, particularly since I've gotten older...seems the heat gets to me more than it used to.  Riding early in the AM or late in the afternoon is about the only option...at least then the sun's not beating down on you, but the air temp in the late afternoon can still be stiffling.  Staying on smaller roads surrounded by green things is a lot better than 4 lanes or especially interstates...the super slabs seem to add about 5 degrees to the air temp hitting your body.  I hate interstate travel on the bike, and if time allows, will avoid them.

Cotton anything is about the worse thing you can wear, IMO, especially on your feet and upper body.  Wicking garments are best, like backpackers use...any moisture will evaporate more quickly with those materials, keeping you cooler in the process.

When riding long distances in hot weather, I actually like to use a white long sleeve UnderArmor shirt it's got an SPF of something like 50, so I can ride all day without burning without using any kind of sun screen. The white reflects the heat nicely, and even in the 90's, can get past confortable, even a little chilly sometimes at high speed. Naturally, you get zero protection in the event of a collision, but for great comfort and sun protection, you can't beat it.

X 2 on the white long sleeves. Around town I wear one, on the highway I use an open mesh jacket with armor.

My problem area is the feet, most riding boots are really hot! I've tried polypropylene liner socks but still have the hot foot. Looking for a ventilated boot for summer riding, any ideas?

Boots are kind of a catch 22...Ventilated is nice until you get caught in a rain storm, then they suck, as wet feet are no fun.  I wear Cruiserworks boots...totally waterproof.  I also wear Bridgedale light weight ski socks almost exclusively, even with regular shoes.  They are over the calf, so not falling down all the time, which drives me nuts, wick moisture well, and my feet stay comfortable most of the time.  But, I won't get on the bike without over the ankle boots on, so I have to try something to make them as comfortable as possible.

I think some of the SWAT Team style of boots are relatively well ventilated...might be worth looking at.

I wore my work tennis shoes the other day just bringing the bike home and the ventilation was wonderful. My feet fetl great but they are not enough protection. I just might look into the SWAT style boots. I could stand wet feet for a while on the hot summer day when you just get caught in a summer boomer but I agree wet feet on a big trip would suck.

Boots, jeans, and some type of sleeveless shirt.
I will wear a helmet if its a hard ridding day, but if out for a cruise, prob not.
Funny, cause I make the wife wear one all the time.
I know some of you would yell, I just can't wear the heavy stuff in warm weather.
It ruins the ride for me.
Yes, I know a fall with no chit on will ruin the ride also.
If I had to wear all that gear i would prob stop riding, makes me that uncomfortable.
Please understand, not picking on you guys that wear it, it's prob the smart move.
So don't rip me a new one for not wearing.  HA

X 2 on the white long sleeves. Around town I wear one, on the highway I use an open mesh jacket with armor.

X3 on the long sleeve white t-shirts.  Riding here in Texas in June - August can be brutal.  Not uncommon for temps to be 100+ for many consecutive days.  Long sleeve white shirts, a wet bandana and something on my head has worked for me for a bunch of years.  Just re-wet the bandana at every stop.  Oh yeah...and SPF 1 zillion on ANY exposed skin.  I forgot to do the back of my hands one time, and the little hole that is exposed through the gloves got 2nd degree burns on both hands!

Great thread!  :2vrolijk_21: I think for me I would take a couple of posts above and make use. On long trips....

1. Soak your undershirt in cold water.
2. Wear a mesh jacket over that - probably like AC for a while.
3. Sunscreen on exposed skin. At least 50 SPF here in Florida.
4. Ride in the early morning or late, late afternoon or even early evening.

Thanks guys! You may have extended my riding season here in Florida by 3 months!  :drink:

I have the Harley Hydration Vest.  Bought my first on in '08 and it gave up the ghost late last summer, so got about 2.5 years of use.

P/N 98350-08VM for the XL  Under a mesh jacket or long sleeve shirt works great.  Last Wednesday was near 100 thru DC and MD, had on undershirt, hydration vest, long sleeve white tee, and Switchback mesh jacket with the panels removed.  Quite comfortable.

I put quite a bit of research in to it last year.  Do a search for sun shirts.  We also use the cool vests.

I've got some shirts that are for hot weather wear and sun protection but they are designed for fishing. I tried one the other day and the thing was like wearing a parachute. All those panels and vents catching wind was not comfortable. On a bagger it might be a little better that the FatBob.

I saw one of those hydration vests the other day and the thing weighed 10lbs. :( Not real sure about wearing that??

Very true.  This young lady is dressed very cool for hot riding & has saved enough of her pennies to buy a Rolex.

It was 105 here yesterday.  Hottest day ever - was 104 back in 1933.  Compared to the AZ desert, 105 is a walk in the park, but with our 80% humidity, it's not a dry heat.  Rained about an inch late afternoon.  Not 'zactly balmy.  Hope you're feeling better.

My wife and I have the HD Hydration vests, and they have been life savers.  We have been riding in 100 to 118 dgrees comfortably.  Have to stop every couple of hours and apply water, then we are off again.  One caution is that if the humidity is high, they do not work too well.

The only thing is......when it's very low humidity (like Calif. or Az.) the hydration vest totally drys out in tfifteen minutes of riding.  But I'm not turning loose of mine! :2vrolijk_21:

We bought three different styles of sun shirts last year.  While they all work well for what they are, the best by far is this one......  http://www.sunprecautions.com/product/1200K11+S+WHT

It has mesh from the arm pits down almost to the wrist so when your hands are on the handlbars, air flows right on through.  Wind wise.....almost feels like you don't have a shirt on yet it provides the protection from the sun's rays. :2vrolijk_21:

Spyd...haven't tried those socks, but I wear wicking type socks exclusively.  My favorites are Bridgedale Lightweight Ski socks...I've got about 5 pair of them, and two medium weight pair for cold weather.  I can't STAND socks that fall down when walking...it drives me nuts.  The ski socks come over the calves, and will not fall down in the shoe or boot.  They wick moisture, have cushioning on the heel, ball of the foot, instep, and the shin.  Best socks I've ever worn, and they last forever...I'm still wearing some that are 6 years old now.

Here's one place to get them...they are not cheap, but like I said, last forever:  http://www.socksappeal.com/1015-Bridgedale-Mens-Lightweight-Heel-Fit-B579.aspx

You can sometimes get them here as well...depends on what they have at the time...they are generally seconds, but I've never been able to find a flaw in any I've ordered:  http://www.sierratradingpost.com

Recently bought 1 of these:

HD Mesh Jacket

Too hot to wear it to try out so far.  May get the hydration packs.  Already have body armor from another jacket but so far have only used it a little.  Kinda bulky.

This jacket comes with a waterproof liner that is detachable.  Figure it will come in handy as an "all purpose" jacket for warm season to cool season riding.  Paid for it 100% with Chrome Cash, so seemed like a painless buy at the time.

Yes that sucker looks like it would really keep you cool when it's 103 out.  :'(I saw the long sleeve shirts and still can not imagine them helping when it is very hot out. Protection from sun and burn yes but not from heat.

Yeah I usually ride sleeveless in this type of heat.  Have a few friends who wear these jackets - they look hotter than hell, too.    Also ride with folks who wear long sleeves even in this fried egg on sidewalk weather.  They also look hotter than hell.  Protection from the sun is good - some day may be me too - instead of sunscreen.

If the humidity drops under 1,000%, might try the hydration pouch deal.  Figure would be ok during cooler mornings, mountain riding.  With the waterproof liner, would be ok probably into the high 60's.

Know it's all relative & folks wear what they wish to wear & all but....it will be 100+ degrees out & high noon sun & some guys wear their leather vests.  Ok for them, but not for me.

Mike, I had a jacket very similar to that back when...the black makes it hotter, of course, but it's OK as long as you're moving.  I currently have an Olympia Airglide 3...again, it's OK when moving, but when you stop and it's 95 degrees around here, it's hot.  My Olympia has the zip out waterproof liner, and a zip out thinsulate liner as well, so I'm thinking I may be able to get by with that year 'round.  It also has armor...I took it out of the back, but left it on the shoulders and elbows and it's pretty comfortable.  With the jacket you've got, and something beneath the liner, you'll probably be good to go down to the 50's.  I recently bought a long sleeved Underarmor white "summer" shirt, but haven't been able to try it out because of the broken foot, but will be able to soon.  I spent so much time out in the sun working and fishing in my younger days, further sun damage is a cause for concern for me, so I'm going to give the shirt a try and hope it works.  Otherwise, it's back to sunscreen.  With the heat and humugity we have in our part of the county, it almost gets to the point where it's miserable to ride...period.  And the older I get the worse it seems to be.

Terry,

Know what you mean about sun exposure when you are younger.  The guys I ride with wearing long sleeves are worried/fighting potential skin cancers.

Have looked at a number of these jackets -priced from under $100 to over $300.  Decided on this one due to having the Chrome Cash (no cash outlay) & it was pretty much what I was looking for.  When the humidity drops (may have to move way west for that to happen) will try the hydration pouch deal.  Know folks who like theirs so it's beyond theory that they will work.  Time they work depends on a lot of factors.

Underarmour is excellent! You will enjoy that.  Good luck on your foot.  Went through that many years ago  - not any fun.

Notice the older I get, my attitude about riding gets more similar to my wife's attitude about snorkeling.  Pretty weather, low or no waves, friendly sun, nice fishies - lots of fun.  Of course no fish while riding - yet - & not a fair weather rider only but....

Given the choice will skip the screaming hot day for a milder one or a stormy day for a calm one.  If on a long trip - will go ahead & no bitching since it's just another part of the ride.  But if at home, warm & dry, with a cold beer or other frosty beverage, will pass for a better day more than not.

Mike...no brainer with the Chrome Cash.  It's a good jacket, and with the Hydration packets will be a nice thing to have when you're able to use it.  Yea, out West it would be more useful...it's a dry heat, ya' know...then again, so is sticking your head in an oven.  At least we're not having to eat sand/dirt.

Like you, on trips, I take what I'm dished...but around here, I'll do the same and have a frosty cold one and wait 'till it gets down to a chilly 92 degrees instead of 98.   :huepfenlol2:

Spyder,

Good friend of mine was wearing this same jacket a few weeks ago - with body armor - when he was hit by a car running a red light.  Actually, he ran into the side of the car in the intersection.  Never saw him, he never saw her.

His bike was totaled.  He was shook up & stiff but no road rash.  NONE.  Jacket was torn/abraided at the spot of his center shoulder blades.  Decided after that to give this jacket a try so finally got around to buying it.  He was on his way to work, early morning.  Of course the car got the ticket.  He traded out of his 08 for 10 & is riding again.  Wearing a new version of this jacket now.

Hope you are healing up ok.  Last time I had raod rash was in the 70's & it sucked hind teat.

:huepfenlol2:

;D ;D. Have eaten a lot of dirt while riding.  And bugs.

Thanks looking forward to trying it out.

Agreed on temps.  Avoid the heat of the day by taking a morning ride when I can. Sometimes late afternoon is almost bslmy here.  No fun when it's 98/98%.

Yeah, when I lived in west Texas it was a dry heat.  112 in a dry heat is hottern hell. :huepfenlol2:

Terry, put the back armor back in the jacket.  Wish I'd had some in mine.  spyder

Will likely do that, Spydy...I took it out before I moved the backrest back a hole, and before I got the Anderson TP relocator for Judi...the back armour was pushing my back a bit too far forward, and moving the backrest further back is not really an option if you don't move the TP on the newer bikes.  Now, I think all will be well.  Tweaking things to make 'em fit takes a little while...but I'm all about maximum protection whenever possible.

Hate that for your friend, but on the other hand it's good to hear that the stuff worked in real life.  Chit like that makes you think, huh...

Yeah it does.  That's what got me looking at these jackets.  Several really good ones out there.

After looking at his bike (damn mess) & helping him take parts off it for his new one, decided it would be a good decision.  The price was right plus knew this one - for my friend - worked great.

Am on an iPad so the quote deal is not working right -scrolling.  Will be glad when the 10th version or whatever comes out that fixes the glitches.

I leave all the armor in.......now.  For the same reason a shattered jaw convinced me to wear a full face......the armor is not going to do you much good when you need it if it's sitting on a shelf at home. :nixweiss:

Ohhhh.....off topic.   If you burn easy or ride in really hot weather (especially humid) this is the shirt for you.  It looks ugly as hell when you're wearing it but it's very functional  (super lightweight.....almost like not having a shirt on and the mesh sleeves make it the preferred choice for me).....     http://www.sunprecautions.com/product/1200K11+S+WHT

Yeah, the more protection, the less pain & suffering.  I was really glad I had full gloves & heavy boots on w/ a leather (gun) vest....they all saved me lots of skin.  The broken ribs in my back might have been spared if I'd had on a armor jacket, don't know.  I have two of those summer jackets w/ the armor and they work well, but don't expect them to keep you warm in the least when the sun goes down...they're COLD then unless you've got a sweat shirt or something to put under to block the airflow.  spyder

Broke ribs - a true pain.  Armour might have helped.

This jacket has a water/windproof long sleeve liner.  Figure will keep it on the bike when wearing the jacket.  Know what you mean about mesh when the temps drop.  Coldern hell then.

Cage behaviors being what they are, glad this jacket has some reflective piping.  That stuff shows well at night.

Almost had a kid wipe me out yesterday in a Cosco parking lot.  He was speeding fast, cutting thru the spaces, spaced out.  If I had not looked wide left, he would have taken me out.

I mentioned it earlier, but I gotta bring up Under Armour Heat Gear white long sleeves again. We're getting scorched by 90+ temps in Chicago, which is really hot and muggy for us, and I couldn't make it without these. 30+spf, and they feel like you're not wearing anything. The moisture wicks away and with the wind, causes a cooling sensation - it's great, but you have to get white. You definitely won't get any protection in a collision, but you will be comfortable.

Love the jackets with armor in them, always leave it in.  Not only does it protect you if you get hit, it makes my old saggy shoulders look younger. :huepfenlol2:  I must have 10 jackets and the ones I like the best have some sort of protection in them.

Long sleeve UV shirt over a Harley hydration vest. The UV shirts are inexpensive (<$30) and available at almost every sporting good store now and breath enough for slow evaporation of the vest.  Doc

Is this the one http://www.cabelas.com/mens-long-sleeve-t-shirts-armour-tech-tees.shtml?WT.tsrc=CSE&WT.mc_id=GoogleBaseUSA&WT.z_mc_id1=1167680&rid=40&mr:trackingCode=9928F002-3FDE-DF11-9612-001B21631C34&mr:referralID=NA ? It won't let me choose white. Closest I can find anywhere is grey.  :nixweiss:

Rob...try Bass Pro Shops.  I picked one up there a few weeks ago in white.

http://www.basspro.com/Under-Armour-HeatGear-Tech&153;-TShirts-for-Men-Long-Sleeve/product/103950/-1541236

They fit kind of loose, and they don't shrink after washing, so order whatever size you would wear in "dressy" type shirt, not a t-shirt.  Normally, I get a Large cotton t-shirt, but in a "regular" shirt, I get a Medium.  A Medium in this shirt fit just right...loose enough, but not too loose.  I'm 5'8" and about 180lbs...yea, I'm a fat f*#%

I wear Columbia or North Face fishing/ hiking pants.  You can purchase them at Dicks, Scheels, Cabelas etc. They are made of a very thin material and have zip off legs.  Some have velcro at the bottom so you can snug them down to keep them from riding up your legs.  Not much protection if you go down but are comfortable to ride in when it's hot and keep your legs covered.

We were at Bass Pro Shops yesterday and it seems like all the sporting good chains have UV shirts now. It looks like polyester is making a big comeback with its wicking properties. They were sold out of the hydration vests though.  Doc

X2  :2vrolijk_21:    Not going to make a fashion statement in one of them but it's the closest thing to not wearing a shirt and still having maximum protection.  The vents arm pit to wrist are what puts these shirts over the top. :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks JC, Terry has a Harley model and I was looking to see if there is anything out there that's better. I'm surprised that Harley doesn't have a line of UV shirts yet. All they have are the mesh jackets for over the hydration vests and I'm thinkin the shirts would work better by slowing down the evaporation. Columbia makes some of their UV shirts with a loose fit for over the vest.  Momma is happy, so...

I saw a employee at the local dealer wearing a new UV Harley shirt w/ the vents yesterday.  Looked nice and he said it was very cool riding in to work on his scooter.  Must be a new item.  spyder

Not sure what brand mine is......I'll check when I get home tonight.  But it has pockets which were great for filling with ice when Terrie, me, Ernie, Jon and Andy were all riding Hwy. 50 across Utah and Nevada in 113F temps. :2vrolijk_21:  Went into the Gatorade barrel and dunked the cool vest then filled the pockets with ice.  I swear they were still completly dry twenty minutes later but at least it allowed us to keep moving on to the next stop.

Sorry for the delay.  Actually the one you want is the HeatGear TNP LongSleeve.  The whites I got have grey logos on the front breast, and that site on Bass Pro shows black, which are the lower versions I think?

Also, yes they do run very large, so if you take an XL, get a Large and it'll be perfect.

We have the Classic cooling vest from Silver Eagle Outfitters.  At the time only black was available but now I see they have silver.  They have other clothing items for hot weather riding........  http://www.silvereagleoutfitters.com/

Harley has a line of button up UV Summer shirts. They appear to me to be the same as Columbia brand but with Harley added graphics, branding. I have one and it is good shirt. I also have a solumbra shirt, nice shirt but the Underarmor ones from any sporting goods stores is about $20 less and to me seems to do the same job. I also wear a Vanson Vent Max summer jacket that I like, Made of a better grade of mesh than the TourMaster, Harley etc, larger holes but much tougher, no collar which I like, just banded around the base of the neck. It also has CE Armor in shoulders and elbows that is backed up by leather and a back protector that while not CE is there and upgradeable to CE if you choose. Buy direct from Vanson. Also has a dropped tail without the mesh to protect the lower back, coolest jacket I have ever worn. I always wear coat, gloves, boots etc. and I live in sunny Florida and ride almost everyday and the Underarmor long sleeve white with a Vanson Vent Max is the coolest deal I can find.

Rob, you have a Gander Mountain @ the 350 MM, they have the UnderArmor stuff, I bought a couple pair of winter long underware in there off clearance table recently for 50% off. Also Underarmor has a outlet in Orlando at a couple of the discount malls as well as Ellenton. Either place is a good ride for you.

Or just order it online from Under Armour. They have a popup with free hsipping, and no tax, so that's a pretty good deal.

Anyone out there tried these?

My best friend from Denver got a pair and said they are incredible. Says they are like air conditioners for the feet. Gonna check them out. They even come in a nice selection of colors. Red and black being the fastest!

It's been 3 years since this thread stopped.....

http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=63586.90

So I thought I'd re-visit it as a lot has changed with clothing over the last 3 years

I spent quite a bit of time researching some gear that might help in the extremely warm and humid temps. I am really leaning towards the Olympia Air Glide 3 pants and Air Glide 4 jacket.

I never spent much time before thinking of this stuff. I usually just throw on jeans and boots and a T-shirt. But now my wife and I are taking much longer rides and we're interested in finding gear that not only provides some air flow / coolness, but also protection from the sun and also in case of going down. Because let's face it there is going to come a time when that protection pays for itself in spades.

So today I wore some under armor under my jeans, and that alone made a difference. Right now I am on Revzilla and looking at wicking riding socks and riding boots with mesh.

Thoughts?

I just bought the Tour Master Air Intake 3 jacket from Revzilla and Held Rodney gloves (insanely fast delivery, ordered around noon yesterday and they showed up at my work about 24 hours later and free shipping). I took the gloves and cut off the end of the fingers and punched holes between what was left as well as the back of the hand. The mesh on the TM jacket is very large holes which I think will move quite a bit of air and the armor in the shoulders and elbows feels very solid. I did have to change out the back armor to a Klim (also vented) because the one that came with the jacket was cheesy.

Also to explain the gloves, I have tried a couple of pairs of the "fingerless" HD gloves and I hate how they feel grip wise when I ride. My other gloves are Held with the Kangaroo leather palms and I absolutely love them (best gloves I have ever used by far) so I figured I would just make my own "fingerless" gloves and not lose the feel.

I would have preferred the balk ones but they were not in stock and I knew I was going on a 300 mile trip today (which I did and the gloves were amazing!) so I took this color. I punched some larger holes in the back and thumb and cut out the inner lining on the back also

I sometimes wear a first gear mesh jacket and even at times when it's really hot I will soak my T-shirt in water then put the mesh jacket on over it. I've also used cool ties, those are the ones that you soak in water then tie them around your neck. The material they use swells and lasts for a long time. The important thing is keeping your body temp down and drink a lot of fluid.

Start with a good, wicking skin layer. There's plenty of choices out there. I've been using Cycle Gear's house brand Heat Out stuff. It's cheap. gives you some fatigue-delaying muscle compression, and really helps you manage the sweat. I've also been using SiDi's silver-content wicking socks which are comfy and prevent the "swamp foot" you get with cotton socks in hot weather. Combine those with a pair of ventilated Riding shoes (SiDi Doha's are my current favorite), and your feet are good to go. Armoured riding jeans work well with the skin layer, and ventilated textile riding pants are better yet. I wear a ventilated motocross jersey over the skin layer (again, Cycle Gear's BILT line is dirt cheap and works great). While any ventilated MESH armoured riding jacket will do, I've had good results with both my Cortech DS Air 1/2's and Olympia Airglide 2/3's. I also wear a helmet liner (Heat Out, Head Slicks, etc), which helps to keep you cool as well. Add one of those cooling vests, cooling neck wraps, or simply soak your shirt/skin layer with cool water in a pinch, and you're chillin' like a villian.

Drinking plenty of fluids often (good time for a riding break) is a must, as well as making sure you're eating small nutrient-dense/fat calorie sparse meals every two/three hours is always a good idea. It keeps your blood sugar and energy levels constant to delay muscle and brain fatigue.

While no helmet, shades, a tee and jeans may make you look cool, you last a lot longer in the heat if your control you exposure to the elements and manage your perspiration. In addition, the aformentioned "cool" riding apparel won't do much for you in the event of misfortune.

All good points no doubt. Just wanted to add I don't wear no helmet, jeans, t shirt, and shades to look cool. I do it because that's what I wear riding or driving my car lol. To each his own though. Thanks for the info on the wicking products!

You're welcome.

Understood.

My comments regarding ATTGAT instead of a T-shirt and a smile were not aimed at anyone in particular. We're all adults, and it's up to the individual as to the level of risk he/she will subject themselves to if he/she rides and it all goes wrong.

I tell all my students to dress for the ride, not the crash. Comfort is paramount as distraction on a motorcycle can be deadly. I remind them, however, that you get off the bike (i.e., fall, crash, etc.) with whatever gear you got on the bike with.

Food for thought.

I agree 100%. I've gone down in a T shirt and jeans. Left alot of my forearm skin on the pavement. Not fun.

I had a lot less trouble with heat this year. Not that my gear was so much better but it never really stayed warm here in E TN. I have found that I like the long sleeve fishing style shirts with the billowing sleeves and back vent. I have been asked about wearing long sleeves in the summer and I think wearing a white or very light color with the right material feels even cooler than the ubiquitous short sleeve T shirts. It keeps the sun off of me and I don't have to slather down with all that greasy sunscreen.

Next year I am going to look into the underwear thing mentioned on another couple of threads.
