Need New WATERPROOF boots
« on: June 20, 2014, 11:27:34 AM »

On a long road trip to Alaska and thought my Bates Gortex boots were waterproof.  But when it really starts raining the lower half leaks someplace. I think it's in the fabric area above the leather.  Anyway, is there good waterproof boot that really works?  I've heard the FXRG boots are good, but you can't get them anymore. I know the FXRG leather jacket works. So, give me some advice.  Thanks

Lucked out and bought a pair of the FXRG's that were in the discount pile.  Had them for about 4 months now and love 'em.  NO water leaks in and I've stood in puddles just to make sure.  The last pair I got were from HD (NOT FXRG) and while they were suppose to be waterproof, got my socks wet in a brief shower....took them back and got my money back.  Paid 70% off the FXRG's and happy.  My other riding boots have been some 18 year old Rocky's.  Gortex, insulated and NEVER had my feet wet.  Still have them and ride with them from time to time.  Not motorcycle boots but hey, if your feet stay warm, dry and comfortable during and after the ride, why worry if they don't look like motorcycle boots.  I would say you should be able to find some capable boots in AK during your next few days so good luck, be safe and look forward to the pics while you are there and your return trip.

Have a half sister that lived in Fairbanks for 15 years....she and her husband loved it but we never got up there to visit with her.  Should probably be kicked for that mistake.....

Stop by a farm and fleet store and get the rubber over booth farmers are using. Aerostich sells that as well but that will not help you on the road. I have a pair that rools up in the sadlebag. 100% waterproof.

Sidi's are excellent. I'm on my third year with a pair. Still dry and comfortable.

Own a couple pair of the FXRG. Ridden in rain and no leaks. You can still find most sizes on ebay.

Ridge 9000 Ultimate Side Zipper.  Waterproof - never leaks, lightweight, very comfortable & very good service at a lower cost than many on the market.

Those remind me of the SWAT boots I have which produce the same results.  Think I paid $89 for them at one of the bike rallies.

Very similar, Jock.  Sometimes see these discounted at rallies.  Side zipper makes for easy off/on.

Cruiserworks are good but kind of pricey. Comfortable and can walk around in them all day. They have new owners that made good on a pair I purchased previously the sole had cracked and found out they had a bad bunch at one time. Waterproof as well.

Gaerne Balance Oiled.  They're very pricey, but absolutely waterproof, not crazy hot in the summer, and super comfortable.

I purchased a pair during the Outer Banks Rally and I love them. I also have Cruiser Works that need to go back for repair.
Both are waterproof.

Red Wing. I've had mine over 10 years. Complete water proof but I ride behind lowers. They come in H width for extra wide feet. 40 plus years working the flight line in USAF spread both feet with those boots we had to wear.

Take a look at Cabela's selection for outdoor/hiking. When I used to backpack with the scouts they had an extensive selection and good return policies.

Thanks for all your replies and advice. I started looking on ebay and guess what---they had a pair of FXRG-3, and they were 13, my size. I snagged them for $50. Pretty awesome. Just wish I had them now.  Bought a can of spray waterproofing and sprayed the whole can on the tongue where the fabric is and guess what---no change and they still leak. Oh well.

I've been using Sidi On Road Gore Tex boots for a few years and they do not leak at all even in the heaviest rain.  At $360. to $380 a pair they aren't the cheapest boot out there but are well worth the money if you value dry feet and a comfortable boot.

Well, the FXRG leak too.  Was in a 3hr, car stopping, rain last weekend and when I got home my socks and the inside the boot were wet.  It was warm, so not a big problem, just disappointed.  May have to try the Sidi's.

FXRG 3's are on the HD website for $259.00. Not sure why everyone says no longer available.

I agree with Rooster on the Cruiserworks boots. Been riding with these for years - lightweight, dry and can be purchased in wide sizes.

Vendramini hand made Italian motorcycle boots.  At 320, not too bad.  The reviews are great, I'm seriously looking at these for my next pair.  Sold in the US by Biker World.

I've been wearing Bates now for a couple years and love them. Very light weight and totally waterproof.

Those look nice. Even the top looks like it might have enough room for my stumpy legs. Having large calves I have trouble fitting in that area. Love the zippers.

The Revzilla review is great.  It shows how they are completely adjustable in the calf area.

+1 on Red Wings. Yes, they are rather pricey, but what other manufacture oils and conditions your boots for as long as you own them?

Update on the FXRG boots that leak:  the Harley shop couldn't help me since I didn't have a receipt.  I emailed Wolverine and they wanted pictures, serial number and date of purchase.  I sent them all of that and they said they would issue a return number to have them replaced as a one time deal, even though they were out of warranty (they must by able to tell by the serial nmber).  So I sent them in and am waiting for the new pair.  Quality company that has been very nice to deal with so far.
