Changing the bars

Anybody change the bars on a '15 CVO Street Glide yet?? I'm sure someone has. I am thinking of going with WO575's and wondering if the MoCo put enough slack in the clutch and brake lines for slightly taller bars. 2" up and 2" back.

Thought I heard about some new way to bleed ABS and clutch and would really like to get away with not changing those lines.....

I changed mine using the Khrome Werks +2 300518 and the wiring was just long enough. No extensions needed. Not so sure I could have gotten away with two up as well. Clutch lines had to be slightly rerouted but did not need to disconnect and bleed. Just loosen the bango slightly and rotated to needed position.

I just put Yaffee classic 12 inch bars on with the stock cables. I think you will be fine.

I did Klockwerks "ergo up and back" bars. They don't really feel back because they are much straighter and wider feeling. They sold me a $35 extension to go with the $269 bars. They are awesome and high quality chrome. Stock brake lines work fine.

It seems the stock clutch and brake lines vary in length every year model.  On my 2012 FLHXSE3, I had to go plus 4 on each to get them to fit 12" Yaffee's.

I know...on my 2011 FLHXSE2 I needed a new clutch line but the brake was fine......others did not have to change anything

I did the bars on my '11, but when I heard about cracking open the brakes and bleeding the ABS I started getting quotes. Dealers said 12 hours plus parts, indy shop said 8. It sounds like I may not have to open brake and clutch lines, so I will probably do these myself again.

I did 2 sets of bars on my bike. I am 5'6" short. I did the Khromewerks +2 sweepers for 1 riding season. Never like them. Too low and too flimsy (only 1" diameter). Pulling the bike off the stand sucked with those. They did not require any wiring extensions or cables. I simply rotated the clutch and brake banjos.

Next I installed my 13" Cyclesmith bars. I had to install wire extensions and new clutch and brake lines. I LOVE these bars. I sorely missed them in Feb when my wife and I flew to Ft. Lauderdale and rented a '15 limited low. I hated the reach bars on that thing.

Sounds like once I decide which bars I want I will do the install myself.  Not going to pay for 12 hours labor 88.00 an hour. Thank you for the information.

Changing the bar's on a 2014'-2015' touring is really a simple job and should be done yourself if you have a little wrench ability ... without internal wiring ... l was able to swap bars and button up whole job in less than an hour ... swapped stock bars for a powdercoated set....

How do you get to the clamp??? Radio has to come out???  Or just lower covers?

Mike,...
   remove the outer fairing,... remove  the 2 bolts holding the inner fairing switch cap ... remove the front turn signals ... remove the 4 bolts associated with mounting the turn signals ... remove the outer fairing skirt ... and while standing in front of the bike facing rearward ... the whole fairing pulls forward exposing the clamp assembly ...

It sounds pretty simple. No need to remove radio is nice. So it just comes down to which bars I want and then start wrenching. I will however go with internal wiring personal preference.

13 and earlier isn't much harder. There are 4 bolts holding the radio you just remove them and slide the radio back a few inches no need to remove. No biggy. What bars did you go with?

I haven't purchased my bars yet. Not sure which ones I want to get. I currently have the Helibars on my 2009 Ultra Classic. I like them however they don't offer internal wiring and I don't want to give up that feature on the CVO. I would like to find something that is similar? if possible.

Any suggestions? I would like the bars to be up higher and back towards me ..

I paid the dealer.
Wanted them on for a ride coming up and didn't have the time with my work being busy. They charged me a bit over $200. Well worth not having to f$&@ with it before a ride.

One observation/ niggle is that I am pretty certain these Cvo bars are exactly the same as the stock ones on the street glide special I had except they are chrome plated!,
Now all the Cvo's I've had usually have more pull back than the standard model and the bars are 11/4" diameter,kinda more custom as that's what your paying for after all is it not my fellow pipsqueeks?

There are some cartoon comparisons in this stream of pics. Take a look. They DO NOT feel like they come back as depicted in the cartoon photos. The wider and straighter grip angle dissolves any "back" that there is gained by coming up two inches on the "angle back". They take a little getting used to IMO, but I really like them quite bit. All lines remained stock except for a $35 8 inch extender I had to purchase for one side of the internal wiring. They were about $305 for bars, extension and shipping to my door.

WO 575's have the 2" up and 2" back that you are looking for.

Khrome Werks makes a 2+2 Narrow Sweeper.  2 inched taller, 2 inches back, and I think 1/2 inch wider than stock.  Their website has more details.

I'd go wild one over khromeworks. 1 1/4' vs. 1" and a better quality bar. Just my opinion I have had the khromewerks on mine previously.

I was all set on these 575 as well , I've had WO before (14" apes on my RKC) but they do not do one to fit 2014/15 bikes, just got an email from them saying the bend is too tight for 1 1/4" bars on the new rushmores! ...... Dam, will have to rethink this .

Crap......what now????
You can put on a set of these, and also have internal wired heated grips... yaffe 12" monkey bars. They revised the bars to fit 14 and 15 CVO's. I personally had WO 575 on my older SG and changed them to the monkey bars and loved them. Had to install them on the new one.

Will the end of the handlebar be closer to the rider compared to stock.
The hand grips are closer to the rider allowing you to lean back more

Im thinking maybe the yaffe 8" monkey bars, i just want something thats going to be 2" back and 2" higher than stock bars, thats all.... in other words a direct replacement for the WO575 seeing as they don't fit the 2015 bikes.

When I was trying to decide on what size bars to put on, I had a forum member give me some great advise.  He said: "Always go one size taller than what you think".  I was originally thinking about 10" Yaffee's, so I ordered 12" and I'm glad I did.  Jesse is right, the 12's are like 13's.

With 10's you will need to relocate your mirrors and find a "button" to fill in the mirror bolt holes because you cannot see out of the mirrors.

With 12's you do not because you can still see your mirrors.

I'm 5'-8" tall and 145 lbs. Basically your average little skinny guy and I love the 12's. They fit me perfectly!

Before you buy a set of bars I suggest sitting on a few sizes. Either way you'll love the height over stock.

My mirrors are cheap Yaffee knock offs.  I think I paid 30 bucks for them through an online vendor.  I considered that a much better deal than the high dollar Yaffee's.  Yaffee probably gets his the same place I got mine.

I had to put mirrors on.  I couldn't see anything out of my stock mirrors when I put on the 12" Yaffee bars and I'm 5'10".

I honestly can't remember if mine are 10" or 12"??(it's been a few years since I swapped them)  I am on the short side (5'6") and I can see fine out of my stock mirrors. (I think they are 10")

You should listen to CowboyBagger's advice! I would also suggest getting bar mounted mirrors... you can see much better with them all around over the fairing mounted ones. Forget getting 8 inch... at least get 10's. Then if you get the 10's you will wish you put on 12's.  :oops: JMHO

If you contact Magnum Shielding, they will fix you right up.  The new line from them will come in two pieces.  Just in case you put on taller bars in the future, you only need to buy one short line.  If my memory is right they were 48" and 19" lines for the brakes and 71" for the clutch side.

Sounds good....confirming with Paul would be perfect since we have the same bike.

I had to change the clutch line on my '11 and I went with WO575's which are less than 10's.....

You are going to love the 12's. Yaffe will tell you that you can get by without even changing the lines on our bikes for 12's, but I think that is pushing it, and mine are extended. Several have posted installing 10's on our bikes without changing the lines. You should be fine.

I plan on changing the bars out for 16" Carlini Gangster Glides, in the next week or so.  Just have to decide on cables and get them here.  I had them on my 2013 SG and loved them.  Will try to figure out how to post pics after the job is finished.

I just put Yaffee classic 12 inch bars on with the stock cables. I think you will be fine.

I have just ordered the Yaffe 12" bars. They told me no need to order extra extended Clutch / Brake lines as the new 2015 CVO's have enough slack cable already. Can you confirm that. ? I do not want to get into changing the bars to find out that my cables are to short. I was recommended to buy the extension kit only $25.00 dollars. Just hope there advice is correct ?

Where are they from the factory exactly??  I haven't been able to find a photo that shows it very well from the side.
Don't really want to pull it apart just find out they've been moved.

That's my understanding from reading multiple threads about it. I think I've read where there's only 6 wires in there now instead of 16.

That's my understanding from reading multiple threads about it. I think I've read where there's only 6 wires in there now instead of 16.

Damn...add in a set of heat demons and it shouldn't be too hard....

Anybody use the new design heat demons with the TBW heater yet??

Great video.....stupid question......when doing these bars do you not have to remove the wiring from the connectors to get them through the bars like on pre-'14 bars?

You must only take apart the single, 6 wire Molex connector used for the throttle-by-wire.  That and reassembly is shown in detail in the video.  The canbus connectors easily pass through. 

One comment on the video.  I would never use grease to help pass the wires through the bars.  The service manual says to use window cleaner (which then evaporates and doesn't make a mess).  I found it best to use silicone spray for the same reasons and it is a better lubricant.

Do not use window cleaner if you wrap everything with electrical tape.  It dissolves the electrical tape and becomes a big black sticky f..ging mess.  Silicone much better.

Still seeking an answer from my question if any one has changed to the 12" bars on a 2015 CVO Street glide and has used the original clutch & brake lines that come stock with the bike. Advice from Yaffe was that on the 15 models they have left enough extensions on these cables to allow for fitment? Don't want to get all the way to a strip down to find I need these cables shipped to the UK.....

I installed the 12 inch yaffe's on my 15 CVO SG and used the stock cables with no issues, I did have to buy the electrical wire extensions for it. The throttle by wire is long enough.

they are nice bars and fit great. Hope this helps.

They changed the design and according to the website you don't have to ream out the bars anymore.

so, the dealer did my bars yesterday on my 15 cvo, said it was about 8 hours,  I called today and said I'd liked them moved a little closer, and he said probably take at least 2 hours to do.

reading here, it looks like guys are saying they are doing them in 2 hours from start to finish, unless I'm reading something wrong.

he told me the fairing has to come back off, etc..

is this something I can do easily or not,  if I can knock it out quick I'd rather do it myself

They should have made arrangements with you to test fit the bars BEFORE they put it all back together. That said, take a look at the video on the previous page. The outer fairing has to come off and the inner fairing moved out of the way to access the bolts. I've never done it before but would think it would take some time going slowly to do it.

G-man on the previous page stated he was able to use the stock cables/clutch line with the 12" Yaffee's. Other brands may require new ones. He did need wire extensions.

I adjusted my bars the other day in about 30 minutes. I did not have to separate the inner and outer fairings, I removed the two screws for the inner cover for the switch and then removed the turn signals and the four bolts holding the fairing in place that are under the turn signals, remove the cover on the front below the fairing and then roll the fairing forward. it is very easy to do. I did this by myself so you should be able to get it done.

nice, i'll have to try this,  I had them adjust them back forward pretty far, now I think too far that way,  I'd rather do myself if not that big of a deal

Nope. It does not take that long.  Taking the outer fairing off takes less than five minutes, and you don't have to remove the inner fairing, just lift it....  G-man is spot on.... Your dealer is telling you tall tales.

We just did a set of LA Choppers 10" twin Peaks on my Buddies 15- SG. The stock Brake and Clutch lines were fine. Just move around the wiring as needed and it will  give you enough play in the cables.  For all of the time it took (3 hrs) I am glad he bought the wire extensions.  You can cut all of the stock wire ties off ( and there is a Chitt ton) and that will give you a few inches more line but it still seemed like it would have been real tight.  The plug and play extensions are the way to go for the money. Keeps the wiring clean and looking neat. Don't waste the time and possible problems down the road for $25 bucks.  Pulling the wires inside the bars is a  2-3 beer install for sure.  Keep calm and trust me, they all fit !!.  The Video is worth watching for sure as well.

I did purchase a set of Namz 4" extensions which I needed. I choose NOT to un install the stock plugs for the switches from the shelf under the radio.
