Adding Airflow Passenger Floorboards to 2015 FLHXSE
« on: April 28, 2016, 02:21:14 PM »

I'm planning to take advantage of my local dealers 20% off open house event to add passenger floorboards to my '15 CVO SG.

In looking for the parts I need, obviously the Boards (50500437) and I need the mounts (53070-00a).  However, in reading the review for 53070 on the HD parts website, the reviewer claims that the mounts don't come with everything.  Specifically, it's missing the springs, hinge pins and ball.  In response, someone from HD Parts and Accessories agreed, that this kit was intended for people upgrading an existing installation of floorboards to chrome mounts.

Anyone else do this upgrade confirm?  In the report, it said that you needed 4 hinge pins (50933-86a), 2 springs (33085-74) and 2 Delrin Balls (8861).  Adds about $20 to the kit.

Also points out that the plain black mounts come with all those parts (not that I think I want to do black, but I suppose I could).

Obviously will ask the parts guys, but since this info listed isn't in the book anywhere I could find, I wonder how many times this has even come up ...

Thanks in advance!

Jim

Just looked into this, I didn't write down all the Part Numbers but the Grand Total was +$400!  No Thanks.

I found my receipt for the passenger boards i installed on my 2015 CVO SG.

50500377 Housing RH Footboard
50500378 Insert RH Footboard
50500383 Housing LH Footboard
50500384 Insert LH Footboard
50938-04 Kit 4 Pivot Pins
53070-00A Chrome Footboard Bracket
Balls 8861

If you buy the standard mounts for passenger floorboards you will need to use spring part # 33085-74 not 51507-07.  The adjustable mounts like the one found on the 2015 CVO RG or Ultra use the smaller spring part #51507-07. FYI

I'm not sure about the pins. I don't remember if I needed to purchase a different part number. I'm 100% sure about the springs. (33085-74)

Thanks guys, knew I would get help here, so the final parts list would look like
Airflow Floorboards 50500437 $219.95
Chrome Floorboard Supports 53070-00a $139.95
  To install, I need
  4 Pivot pins 50938-04 $10 ( the review on HD.com said to get 4x of 50933-86a)
  2 Springs 33085-74 $3.95ea
  2 Steel Balls 8861 $2.95 ea

At 20% off, that's just over $300 total.

I've also read that whole second part could be avoided by just getting the black mount kit 50500042 for $109.95 which actually does come with the pins, springs and balls (unlike 53070-00a).  Which would put the total price around $264.

I'm not sure that these mounts are something I need chrome on my largely black bike, maybe that's easier...

Thanks again!

The pins come with the airflow floor boards. I just did this on my bike. You want the plastic balls for chrome boards not steel. When I got my springs they gave me the short ones and I looked at it in the mount and knew they wouldn't work. It looks like your part number is for the long springs and that is definitely what you want. They look great on the bike😁 And your passengers will love you.

Just my opinion, if you have a black bike with black switch housing covers and other black accents I would go with black. Keep us posted, as mentioned it's a nice upgrade for the passenger.

East Coast,

That was kinda my thought too.  After picking my bike up this morning from my oil change and free detailing service, I was looking at it and the chrome mounts don't really add anything, to it may just be the way to go to take the easy way out...

Thx,

That said, it's amazing how difficult HD makes this process.  I guess to force you to talk to part guys.

Although I had read a review that said the black mount kit comes with springs and balls, if you read the instructions like I did, and despite the springs and balls being in the photo for the part, the instructions specifically say they are not included.

For future reference, the black mount kit I bought, 50500042 comes with everything, pins, springs and little plastic looking balls.

Also seems to come with more bolts than I recall from my prior generation kit.  One for the top and two different sized ones for the bottom...  I only recall there being one shoulder bolt on the bottom and one on the top.

Had to order the passenger boards so can't mess with the install yet.  Both parts, at 20% off came in at $265 or so.  Can't complain about that.

To complete the thread, I did the install this weekend and for sure those two kits came with everything I needed.  That said, I'm seeing something weird, posted this on another forum and got responses that ranged from it's wrong to another CVO owner saying his were the same.  And it looks like he used the chrome mounts instead of the black...

On the right side, the new floorboard seems to toe in a bit.  I looked at the mounts before I installed them and they looked identical, plus the instructions/part numbers don't specify a "right" and "left" mount.

Attached a picture, not sure what to do next...  Will probably go back to the place I bought them and show the pictures, see if they agree it's wrong and will get another set, but now that I've seen a second bike, I'm wondering...

I remember thinking the same thing when I installed mine last year. I was told by the dealer that was normal, but it still bugged me. Kind of forgot about it as no-one else had pointed it out to me. Now it will bug me again. (thanks for that. lol)
Here's a pic of mine.
