I'm not a 100% sure here, but it looks like the dye has been stripped away a bit by washing.

If it is leather, I would try some shoe polish.  It will restore the color and condition the leather.  Rub the polish in and wipe off well to avoid getting it on your clothes.  That Kiwi is good stuff for leather.  20 years in boots taught me something.

Then again, if it is in warranty, you might try that route.  Although you may run up against problems due to fair wear, etc.

Thanks. The dealer said they will cover it but i still wonder what caused it. The bike has 4500miles on it. The seats on my other bikes never had this problem ever with lots more miles than that. It just makes me wonder because the seat was perfect until last month. It went from perfect to this the last time i washed it. I used nothing different to wash it this time. So unsure. The bike was in the shop a few months getting worked on so maybe they got something on it. But the seat was always off the bike while the worked on it. Just stumped. Dont want it to happen again

Glad to hear they are squaring you away with a new seat.

I would hope you don't wash the bike with the seat on? Even crappy vinyl seats, not counting leather will take rain and even fresh water on occasion but to use even car wash soap on a seat just amazes me that they are going to warranty it.
Buy the thumb screw for the rear of the seat and it will take you about 30 seconds to remove it before you wash the bike. Clean it with some good leather/vinyl care products and reinstall it after drying the bike.

First off, i'll admit i am not a hard core rider.  Meaning only daily rides out and back and on good weather days.

So i honestly have never washed my bike the traditional way, hose etc.

Bike doesn't get very dirty.  So I use this concentrated, wash and polish product.  i bump up the concentration, ie 1 oz in a gallon, i use 2 to 3 oz in a spray bottle and do the most of the bike with it so no water ever gets on the seat or electrical stuff.  (this stuff can also be used for lubricant for clay bar and detailer)

I use a spray water-less clean and wax product for the chrome.

And I put the leather preservative/polish that came with the CVO package, HD paste on the seat.

I generally do this sometime after every ride, so it stays pretty clean.

Let it cool down, put it in the garage, open a cold one and clean it up.
