Just a question...no criticism intended, but wondering why if you put a tour pack and spots on the CVO street glide why didn't you just buy a CVO Ultra instead?  Just wondering.  Thanks. Spook
Because the ass on the ultra is hideous.

I put spots on my CVO SG for safety so I can be seen/see day and night.  The stock head light isnt bright enough for me while riding at night.  The TP was needed for storage while on long trips and I wanted another break light for safety.  To answer your question, I didn't want to buy another CVO Ultra.  I owned a CVO 2008 Ultra and I found it not a versatile bike.  My new SG accessories and seat can be removed easily for solo riding or added for two up.  I personally wanted a new bike with a versatile setup to enjoy all riding scenarios.  BIGGEST selling point was the paint!  Love the Hard Candy Mercury.

Thanks for the clarification. Makes sense to me. I too really like my silver bike. Had spots on my 06 street glide. Agree with you regarding the rear end on the ultra. Thanks again. Spook

Certain things on the custom are much more disirable than the Ultra IMO. The dash, rear, style of paint job and in previous years the lack of lowers. On my bike I added the tourpak, heated grips and Gerbings power supply which sets up perfectly for me.
To each their own.

I took those pics of the Blue/orange CVO this afternoon.

Hey, thanks very much for the heads up on this.  I went there this morning. Nice guys there.  They brought the bike outside for me. Pics really don't do it justice. The orange pops, and the blue is actually pretty cool. Still undecided however. I need to see the silver again. Help. I think I need buyers therapy.

I was torn between that one and the hard candy. I saw the hard candy first and jumped on that one.  Did you get any pics of the blue one in the sunlight?

I saw the Silver in person and it certainly pops in the sun.  The blue and orange is really nice too.  I would really love to have the new dash and infotainment system, but I just don't like the overall paint scheme better than my '11.  Of course it's all personal choice, but my '11 is set up just as I want it, runs great and has 4k miles.  To start over at this point seems like quite a task to me.  For $36k +, I'd consider buying an older SG and doing a total custom big wheel bagger. Let's be honest...we buy the CVO's for 2 main reasons...the engine and the looks.  For $36k, a lot of options open up.  Besides, orange is my favorite color and I have the orange '11 SG.

I bought a 2010 Ultra, in 2009 after a long debate SG vs Ultra. I decided to buy an Ultra because I figured I could make my Ultra into a SG by stripping off parts until I had a SG. After five years I still haven't made mine into a SG, and don't plan to, because of how much it'll cost to do everything. And I think I'm gonna trade into a 2011 SG, even thought I think its crazy, because I'll  keep spending money to chase something that I might still not be content with. I have 30k miles on the Ultra no complaints on how it goes down the road, she's just not pretty enough.

Just got my 2011 paid off this week. Some pretty rides and good features so I wish you all the best. Wish I could pull the trigger on a new ride but just not into doing this contracting as a career any more.

Now tonight I'll call my local dealer and see what they have to say about a trade it. Love inflicting pain on myself but I gotta check it out just to see what they say.  The answer will push me away I'm sure.

That was my thought for awhile now. Yes I know, the rear fender on the sg looks better (even though I can't see it when I'm riding), but you get so much more for the $. ie,
Tour pack
Heated seat
Remote lockable bags
Heated hand grips
Intercom
Cb
And so on.

I stripped my baby down today to solo seat. Put the tour back and 1 piece long distance seat up, did a quick detail and quickly remembered why I own the CVO SG and not the Ultra. Feels light and kind of like driving a late 60's model hot rod. Don't get better then that get the best of both worlds.  :2vrolijk_21:
