How I bought a Streetglide
« on: September 08, 2014, 10:44:58 AM »

Hello everyone.I just put a deposit on 2015 Streetglide.  I have been on this forum for a few years now lusting over the CVOs while saving my pennies….now finally….I feel like part of the team.

I am fortunate to live close to three dealers so I went to each one with my 2010 FLHTK that has 80K miles on it with a simple question.  "What is the out the door price for a CVO Streetglide and 1k service plus my trade".

To many times there are surprises at the closing with document fees, setup charges, shipping, taxes, registration, title and the list goes on.

I went into each dealer and asked to speak to the "MAN"....you know the guy behind the wall.  I explained what I wanted and two were interested and one told me to get my numbers from the other dealers and give him a call,  I told him thanks...but no thanks, my money my rules....nothing personal....just business.

The first dealer really spent sometime going over my bike and wrote a number down of $26K and said "I knows that a lot of money"

The second dealer just took me back into his office and started punching numbers into his computer….turned the monitor toward me and said "how does $29,672.50 sound?".  I asked if that included the 1K service…."no…that will be an additional $350 plus tax".  I told him that he seemed high.....he said "not have much room on CVOs but might be able to shave a couple hundred off".

Needless to say, put a $200 deposit down at the first dealer and now have first refusal on their CVO Streetglides as they come in.

Now the hard part….what color? :nervous: :nervous: :nervous:

You get high marks on negotiation tactics.  Much better than going into a dealer, slobbering all over the 15 CVOs, and taking what they offer.  Go with the hard candy silver paint, JMO.

BTW, $350 for a 1000 mi service:  that's 3 "O" rings, about 6 qts of fluid, an oil filter, plus a short list of other things that don't need to be done - and probably aren't.  That works out to be about $90-$100 in parts...the rest is labor.

Colour is your choice, if you have the privilege of sighting the other colours that's where I would start.
My choice for 2015 is the Hard candy. Good luck and congrats.

When buying a new car or a new bike I do my research before hand. They always want to ask questions to find your price point so when they do I hand them my business card with a price on the back.

They sort of look at me funny and when I tell them to turn it over I say call me when you want to sell. They usually say something to the effect that my number is too low so I get up and say "call me when you want to make some money".

Some don't, but I generally get a call within a day from one of the dealers. Several have stopped me before I get in my car and ask if I'm serious and if I'll make the deal today.

Like the Cat Eyes said; It's just business.

Cat Eyes, Very Cool Story. thanks for posting.

I have seen the Hard Candy and the Black/Brown....they are both sharp looking.

On the hunt to see the Blue/Lava and Yellow/Black.

So far the one I like is the one that is in front of me.......its almost like beer....my favorite beer is the one I am drinking now. :drink:
