How I bought a Streetglide
« on: September 08, 2014, 10:44:58 AM »

Hello everyone.I just put a deposit on 2015 Streetglide.  I have been on this forum for a few years now lusting over the CVOs while saving my pennies….now finally….I feel like part of the team.

I am fortunate to live close to three dealers so I went to each one with my 2010 FLHTK that has 80K miles on it with a simple question.  "What is the out the door price for a CVO Streetglide and 1k service plus my trade".

To many times there are surprises at the closing with document fees, setup charges, shipping, taxes, registration, title and the list goes on.

I went into each dealer and asked to speak to the "MAN"....you know the guy behind the wall.  I explained what I wanted and two were interested and one told me to get my numbers from the other dealers and give him a call,  I told him thanks...but no thanks, my money my rules....nothing personal....just business.

The first dealer really spent sometime going over my bike and wrote a number down of $26K and said "I knows that a lot of money"

The second dealer just took me back into his office and started punching numbers into his computer….turned the monitor toward me and said "how does $29,672.50 sound?".  I asked if that included the 1K service…."no…that will be an additional $350 plus tax".  I told him that he seemed high.....he said "not have much room on CVOs but might be able to shave a couple hundred off".

Needless to say, put a $200 deposit down at the first dealer and now have first refusal on their CVO Streetglides as they come in.

Now the hard part….what color? :nervous: :nervous: :nervous:

You get high marks on negotiation tactics.  Much better than going into a dealer, slobbering all over the 15 CVOs, and taking what they offer.  Go with the hard candy silver paint, JMO.

BTW, $350 for a 1000 mi service:  that's 3 "O" rings, about 6 qts of fluid, an oil filter, plus a short list of other things that don't need to be done - and probably aren't.  That works out to be about $90-$100 in parts...the rest is labor.

Colour is your choice, if you have the privilege of sighting the other colours that's where I would start.
My choice for 2015 is the Hard candy. Good luck and congrats.

When buying a new car or a new bike I do my research before hand. They always want to ask questions to find your price point so when they do I hand them my business card with a price on the back.

They sort of look at me funny and when I tell them to turn it over I say call me when you want to sell. They usually say something to the effect that my number is too low so I get up and say "call me when you want to make some money".

Some don't, but I generally get a call within a day from one of the dealers. Several have stopped me before I get in my car and ask if I'm serious and if I'll make the deal today.

Like the Cat Eyes said; It's just business.

Cat Eyes, Very Cool Story. thanks for posting.

I have seen the Hard Candy and the Black/Brown....they are both sharp looking.

On the hunt to see the Blue/Lava and Yellow/Black.

So far the one I like is the one that is in front of me.......its almost like beer....my favorite beer is the one I am drinking now. :drink:

I wouldn't call it blue lava, but more like a purple lava, but i must say in person it was very sharp.

Thanks for the heads-up

This could get interesting......as some people have an open bias toward BLUE ....I happen to be married to one that is all into PURPLE

Well you'll have to take a serious look at it as my eyes aren't the greatest LOL. I swear it looks dark purple to me, the wife says the same, either way it is sharp regardless.

That's a pretty good deal bro!, I know cause I just closed the deal on my Hard Candy Street Glide for 27K cash + my trade, but I got a few extras in there too;
7 year extended service plan
4 point dock
short sissy bar & seat matching backrest
long angled highway pegs
all installed for free while we finished the paper work,
I wanted the matching passenger floor boards too but they are back ordered with no date, I was going to move the supplied passenger pegs up front for my high way pegs, they felt bad they could not deliver so they gave me a cheap pair of o-ring pegs to use until mine come in, how sweet is that  :)
Real nice purchasing experience and they treated me like a king

So you basically got what the bike should have come with in the first place for 37k.

Indeed. Pretty frustrated with Harley right now. They leave much to be desired for the premiums they fetch.

Life is to short bro, I don't sweat the small chit any more, yea I paid msrp, and I know a lot of stuff has been removed but I took it with a smile on my face and my dealer bent over backwards to accommodate me, 15% off all my extra bolt on's and free installation while I waited. The way I justified it in my mind was that they also added a lot as well with the twin cooling and infotainment, so it's all just a compromise in the long run.

If I could have them add my 13's, my color matched tour pak, my LED tour pak lights, my head work, my exhaust, my cams, my tune, my tuner, my passenger floorboards, my windshield, 4 point docking kit, passenger sissy bar and pad, and my seat for the price they require I would do it. I can't see trading otherwise for a new radio/gps and a slot in the fairing. Too much to change to make it mine again. It will have to be some significant changes to pull me away and get me to start all over.

If it works FOR YOU though, that's what matters. Best of luck!

I totally see your position, way too much to invested, I was actually looking for a 2012 Citrus SG all summer long and ever time I found one something happened and it fell through, got to the point that the 2015's were coming out so I decided to just wait and see and now I'm glad I did, not a big loss for me coming off an 06, now I get to start my OCD all over  :huepfenlol2:  :drink:

by the way I think the 2012's had the best colors for the SG EVER!

Totally different scenario you were in and I don't blame you at all. I actually prefer my colors to any of the 15's but of course it would be nice to have the new amenities but just weren't enough to pull me outta mine. Now if they had made a color combo I couldn't walk away from, well I would be broke right now lol.

I'm not sure yet going to feel her out with just some pipes and a tune and see how that works, also going to do the king tour pack for the long hauls and a solo seat with a back rest

Know what you mean....I was on the bubble knowing that since my limited had over 80k, it was time to throw some money into it.  I figured to do what I wanted to do I would budget $15K.  New motor, rebuild tranny & primary, extended saddle bag, fresh paint and new seat.  This would have been this winter's project.

But with the 2015's I gain (hopefully) better suspension, linked brakes, water cooled heads, LED lights, better sound system, 2 year warranty and a CVO badge...all for just another $11K...and if I keep the bike for 5 years....that around $6 a day....less than a pack of cigarette. (I know this is BS.....I have been diagnosed with stage 4 NMS and you can't take it with you....New Motorcycle Syndrome)

I would have done the same thing in your shoes. I'm riding a 12 with 23k so a little different scenario.

If they make a cvo limited low with stretched bags I'm in trouble.

I doubt any of those purchasing scenarios would work at my local dealership but if/when the time comes again I’m going to find out. They may not have the sales volume of many shops due to being northeast in the williwacks - I’m not certain. I do know I was impressed over several visits when I checked the used bike section – they sold plenty of traded bikes in recent months and cleaned the place out. I‘ve got a lot of cash tied up in mods on the ’13 already and haven’t even gotten into the engine yet. I plan to keep this bike until I can’t ride anymore, but this doesn’t rule out adding another CVO later.
As far as 2015 CVO’s go – I’ve only seen the Hard Candy Mercury Street Glide and that was outstanding. I’m sure the other paint looks great as well, but I think it would be difficult to beat the silver version Cat Eyes.
