What rear shocks for my 04 SEEG?
« on: August 28, 2015, 12:20:42 PM »

This winter when I do some other work on the bike I figured I'd put some new shocks on the rear. I do not want to raise the bike at all. What is the factory length on the rear SEEG shocks? Will the 940's be the way to go?
What about front suspension? DOn't want to change ride height, just improve it.

I went Progressive when I upgraded my suspension... 940 Ultra Touring for shocks and Monotubes for front. Your bike is lowered from the factory one inch both front and rear.

Thanks guys - so my confusion is if I get the progressive 940s then my bike will stay at the same height right? I don't want to change ride height.

And Fired00d is the ride worth it? I don't mind how it rides now at all. It's my little hard tail on the back that feels it. If I can smooth it out a little for her then I's be happy.

Some may argue this strategy but on my  04 SEEG I went with 1 inch longer than stock shock, 13" , but with the standard, softer,  progressive  spring.  Then I adjusted the shock spring load for whatever weight I have on the bike at the time and I have been very happy with the ride and the sitting height.    The extra travel on the shock makes for a considerable better ride IMHO.

The ride height on my bike did not change when I did this upgrade... This is a quote from Progressive regarding the shocks...

Specifically designed to deliver a comfortable ride at a 1" lowered stance. Built around our "Best in Class" IAS technology, The Ultra Touring shocks utilize all the suspension travel provided by these 13" eye to eye units, but provide a 1" lowered ride height. The unique Ultra Touring spring combination not only delivers a lowered ride height while its being ridden, but also while its on the side stand.

The Monotubes I used gave the same ride height as the stock (lowered 1 inch)... so the bike height/stance remained the same. The ride was a nite/day difference as far as comfort and handling. I hadn't ridden a bike with a better suspension (and had kept mine stock for a long time) so I was really pleased and satisfied w/the the upgrades.

I installed Progressive 944 Ultra Touring 13", ride height is unchanged.  Cycleplicity.com has them for $578.34, install is easy, improvement is noticeable.  That said, I strongly considered Ohlins as well.
