Actually, while we are on the topic, i have a question for the experienced members of the Board

Would you suggest that i register the bike at the DMV for the new engine serial number. My engine number on my title of course now doesn't match the new engine.
when i first got the engine, i called the DMV and they suggested that i should re-register the bike and that i may need to have the CHP (california highway patrol) check the bike for "emmissions".  I never followed through.  What is my risk if i dont follow through? Is there a risk that the S&S engine does not pass emissions in california? Are the CHP going to bust my balls?  Anyway, i have been putting this off because of the fear of the unknown but figured i would see if anyone else has dealt with this.

        You're in in uncharted waters here with the CHP now that the law allowing one SPCNS bike per person every 5 years is in effect. Depending on whether or not they determine your bike to be a stock H-D with a re-engine or a custom, you could see a bunch of chit happen. My advice and this is what I would do. Keep the MSO for the engine in a water tight baggie taped to the underside of of your seat. If you get stopped, give up your license and registration and nothing else. Don't offer anything unless asked. Sit there with you hands on your handlebars and play dumb.
      I've lived in Dago for 9 years and flew 1% MC colors for 5 and never had a cop check my VIN or engine #. If they start to, then explain that you changed out the engine and have the MSO under your seat. You might at that point get told you need to re-register,you might even get some kind of fixit ticket, but honestly I doubt this is going to happen to you unless you do something dumbass that causes them to impound your bike ( over 100mph, DUI etc)

Thanks Neal. I've heard nothing but great things about R&R. But I backed down from the biggest motor thing, that I originally spoke of in this thread. I want a long-lasting, reliable street bike. Not too radical. The 113 has a 4.5" leg. Not too big of a stroker. I like the shorter leg in the Evo motor. I also like the smaller cam. The 124 uses a 640 lift cam, and if I'm not mistaken, a 5/8" leg. The 124 is no doubt a beast, but the 113 should hold up much better. R&R stuff is more custom and would be very expensive. As it is, with someone doing me a favor, the motor is 5 grand! Didn't really want to spend that much. But when I added all the new top end parts it came to $2500 before labor. So I figured I'd bite the bullet and go for the 5 grand and get everything new this way. And it comes with a 3-year P&L w.....ty too! ;)

Everyone's telling me to do work on it before I install it. I've been riding that bike at 75 HP for years. the 113 is a bolt-in 100-110 HP engine. Can it be made into a 125+ HP monster too? Absolutely. But for now, off the shelf, it'll be night and day compared to what I have. I figure I'll grow into this engine, then worry about modifying it down the road. Like Chip says, a man can never have enough HP! But if I do it all now, what will I do next year? ::)

true, at one time R&R was selling a complete motor built with S&S lower and their upper, so it was more reasonably priced then buying a crate S&S then having them do their top end

Thanks, hadn't considered that. I'll call them to find out if anything can be done by them, cheaper than 5 grand. I might be the one surprised. That would be a real treat! :2vrolijk_21:

I'm trying to limit the $64K to the SERK Jamey! This one should get done for under $10K! The new bikes seem to need more help than the old ones do! Go figure! ;)

The WG is still intact, as I won't take it down until Cybil's finished. i won't have 2 bikes down at the same time if I can help it. That way I can still ride whenever I want to. ;)

Hopefully we'll be starting the CVOization of the old WG by the beginning of Feb. Thanks for asking spyd! :2vrolijk_21:
