2012 Street Glide
« on: January 13, 2015, 08:42:37 PM »

Recently purchased a 2012 CVO Street Glide. I'm wondering if there's any saddlebag trays or organizers for bags with speakers? Haven't done much to bike yet. Previous owner did V&H true duals, SE Intake, power vision with dyno tune, cams, heads shaved , bigger oil pan. Will know more about the engine work when I call the mechanic that did the work on it. Anything I should be aware of on this model? Previous bikes 09 Nightrain, 04 Custom Ultra, 07 Street Glide with lot's done, 09 Rocker C.

Welcome! Nice bike... you got the best one in the best color! 8) I can help you spend TONS of money on it...

You should get the CVO Supplement for the FLHXSE3. The wiring harness on our bikes is a bit different in some areas from the regular lineup... particularly the audio. The supplement contains the wiring diagrams, and discusses all of the differences from the regular Touring bikes. You should get the Parts Catalog for it, as well.

Please post the particulars on your build when you know them. Decking the heads increased the compression, and you need to know what cams you're running, of course.

Other than that, pretty much the same as the other Touring CVOs. We do have the adjustable non-air rear shocks, which are far better than the stock air shocks. The fork innards need work... I had the Traxxion Dynamics forks put on mine, but folks in the know say the Progressives are nearly as good for far less money.

From your pic, that is not the stock seat. Did you get the stock seat with the bike? In my opinion it's pretty worthless anyway... it's quite thin with little support, and you can't put a standard backrest on it... but it looks good. FYI, the FLHXSE3 came with a passenger sissy bar with a pad that matches the stock seat, too. I point that out because some people are sticklers for getting all of the stock equipment with a used bike. I sold my stock seat and sissy bar, and got a Corbin DualTour, plus a Mustang Super Touring Wide Vintage seat for two-up riding. I don't plan on ever selling Honey Badger anyway!

The Dunlop stock tires don't seem to last very long... especially the rear, depending on how you ride. I'm on my 2nd rear, and will put new rubber front and rear for this year's riding season. The tires are pretty expensive, and the only tire options I know of for our wheels are the H-D Dunlops, unfortunately.

I got the stock sissy bar but not the seat. Came with a luggage rack. Will probably end up putting a solo seat with backrest eventually.

I use the standard saddle bag liners. That way I can keep my tools, flat tire kit in the extended part. Speakers should not be a problem.
I would check to see if the voltage regulator has been replaced. There was a recall on them. I bet you already have it done.
Enjoy the ride. My wife and I love ours.

No, wasn't me. I just bought this bike. I got 5yrs left of extended warranty on it. So, I'll get the regulator checked out. I'm looking for a bag organizer so I can hook up my phone in the bag.

I have the exact same bike and love it.  If you have the passenger back rest there is a way to make it into a riders backrest.  If  you want images of how to do it, I will send some.

B y the way, I'm headed to the Dragon/Cherohala area for the spring and summer.  Gonna try to wear out a new set of tires before I come back to Texas.

I'd like to ride with the Honey Badger.

This image was this past Labor day on the Cherohala.

Let me know when! The Dragon is only about a two-hour ride from the Badger Den.

My sig pic is from last year on the Dragon. Rode it probably 3 times last year. I love it up there.

The Cherohala Skyway from Robbinsville NC to Tellico Plains TN is awesome, too... rode it at least three times last year, too. Moonshiner 28 in NC is a blast, as are GA 60 and GA 180 (Wolf Pen Gap) "down" here in north Georgia. Incredible riding all over the north Georgia and NC mountains, as well as the Smokies in TN.

I'd love to see those pics. I was actually thinking of trying to find a way to do that. Only bought the bike a few weeks ago and haven't had much time to do anything with it.

You first take the backrest off the sissy bar and mount it backwards.  You take two 3/16 eye bolts and with a nut on each and screw them into a 3" turnbuckle.  The nuts are used to lock the turnbuckle after you have made the final adjustment. You make two of the above units. I do not recall the exact size of the other bolts but if you look at the pictures you will get the idea. By adjusting the turnbuckle length you can move the backrest forward and backwards to your liking.
By looking at the images you can see where you tie in the bottom eyebolt turnbuckle assembly,  you will two more bolts with an acorn nut with various washer to make the upper section where the flip lock go over.  I found it best to put a sleeve bushing over the bolt with spacing washers on either side, that way the thread will not damage the flip locks and the flip locks will not bugger the threads.  I hope this will work for you.   I have had many CVO Flhx riders asking me where I found a factory backrest that matched the seat.

It is a little tight for a passenger if you have a tourpak.  I prefer  not to have BSR so it works for me.

One last thing I believe you will need to reverse the flip lock on the sissybar.

Great looking ride.    This I am very partial.  Sounds like you have the motor covered.  I can say the stereo need some improvement.  Lots of choices out there. Other than that, enjoy the sweet ride.    Stuart.  :2vrolijk_21:

Hopefully I'm content with the motor. Will know today everything that was done to it. All I was told is decked heads, 6.7 lift cams, lifters, larger oil pan, power vision with dyno tune. Dynoed at 110hp, 118tq. Ive had several bike done by the same tuner and his numbers are quite conservative. It's got the V&H true duals. Might be changing the exhaust. Not a big fan of V&H products. I like the sound of true duals. Although I know I'm losing a little TQ with them. Can't wait to try it out. Hopefully I'm happy with the power. If not I'm seeing a 124" in my future.
I'll probably upgrade the stereo. If I'm gonna have that many speakers. Might as well take full advantage.
