Winter Oil
« on: August 09, 2011, 04:32:30 AM »

I have been reading several threads, gaining knowlege about the 110 motor and CVO's since mine is coming soon.  Today I ride a 2010 Street Glide with a stock engine and an oil cooler.  I run Mobile 1 V-Twin 100% Synthetic.  Many posts talk about how the 110 runs so much hotter and many people seem to recommend redline 20/60.  I ride about 20,000 miles a year and 70% of that riding is in temperatures below 55 degree's.  Currently my 2010 FLHX rarely breaks 180 degrees even after an hour on the freeway.  I have the oil temp gauge installed in place of the useless air temp gauge.

Given the cold temps that I normally ride in, would people still recommend the Redline 20/60?

I would stick to what the manufacturer recommends.  The 20w50 synthetic is an excellent match for your riding conditions.  If you do a lot of riding in very cold weather, and your oil temp doesn't get high enough to boil off any accumulated moisture, you will want to change the oil more often.

What they said. I would stay with 20/50 year round. I have run the Mobil 1 synthetic in my 99 model for years and it is great oil. Never had any problems with it.

Thread HiJack ALERT!!!

What oiltemp gauge are you using?  I thought the oil temp gauges weren't available for the CVO's?
