Pouches for lowers
« on: February 19, 2015, 09:57:01 PM »

I'm new to the liquid cooled motor and my CVO.  I miss not having storage in the lowers.  I've seen pouch bags for the compartment flaps for the non-liquid cooled lowers. Does anyone know if there is any made for the new type lowers?

My dealer said, none made by harley yet, and we tried the pouches for the non cooled lowers, and they didn't fit very well.

Sure do miss the convenience of the little compartment at arms reach.  Wish there was someplace on the Harley site to make a suggestion.  Guess I'll have to wait.

Thanks Don.

Bet if you could get replacement compartment covers someone could adapt a small bag to it.  Thought I had seen a water bottle holder someplace but can't find it now.  Also Captain Itch might be able to help with a bag.

I didn't like covering up the dash area, so I cut up my old three pouch and attached one to each side of the glove box covers, if you think you don't like it you can change it back by buying new coversw from Harley for $20 each. This cost me nothing.

Awesome!  Now I wished I had kept my windshield pouches from the 2012 I traded for the CVO, damn . . .

Thanks for the great idea.

Hey ole bill, just wanted to let you know your idea for the glove box pouch was spot on.  Like I said, I didn't save my windshield pouches so I had to hunt around to find a replacement.  Found these at Renaissance Leather and they are perfect.  I can't thank you enough for the idea.

Do you have a model or part# for the pouches you
used or a link to them. Do they open without hitting
the tank.

Thanks

Yes you can open them without hitting the tank.  The leather is top quality and soft enough that it shouldn't be an issue.  The owner is Terry and was just fantastic to deal with.  He removed the straps from the rear of the pouch that were originally designed to pass a belt through.  He even provided the screws to attach the pouch to the cover.

That's a really good idea. I too miss the storage in the lowers.

It is possible to use the same pouch bags i.e. 57400-06. Just punch holes into the backside of the "sock" part so that the upper clip keeps the pouch in place.

Renaissance makes a quality product, and I like the closure system, especially on the unit pictured below.  I like the price also, but IMO, it's just too wide to fit the lower, and I don't want to have to hit or scratch the tank every time I open the pouch up and lift its lid.

Also, be advised that Renaissance will leave the engraving off and just make it smooth untooled leather, but they charge you the same amount as a tooled leather design.  No discounts for us guys either.  I didn't ask them about color matched dye either, but black works for me.
Now if they had a Bar & Shield they could tool into the leather, that would be awesome!

Like I said, I didn't save my windshield pouches so I had to hunt around to find a replacement.  Found these at Renaissance Leather and they are perfect.

My questions for Gull Guy are:  does the rear cover on your lower ever work loose while you're riding?  I'm a little concerned that the weight in the pouch, while not being much, might overcome the cover's plastic snaps ability to hold the whole thing in place.  Plus I'm concerned that the swing latch will vibrate open.  How's that bag worked out so far for you?

Ron,
I contacted Captain Itch, and they said they didn't make anything like this and suggested maybe finding an Amish vendor who could make a one-off for me to my specifications.
I'm using the left fairing pocket for keys and wallet, and keep my phone plugged into a charger in the tour pack now.  I had really wanted a pouch like this, but have pretty much changed my mind since then, due to cost.
The below picture are two different Harley Sissy bar bags, $99 each.  I really liked the one on the left, but they're both too wide to fit on the lower nicely.  Either one would look nice on the lower if they were a bit smaller.
I say if you're in the market, buy a Renaissance pouch, get some Goop glue, and bond a Harley Medallion onto the pouch and you'll be all set, plus for less money than the HD sissy bar bags.
