15 CVO Street Glide Mercury to Carbon Conversion
« on: June 16, 2015, 12:47:24 PM »

Got some parts in so I figured I would start a thread on the conversion to Carbon Crystal.

Here is a before shot of the bike.

I added the Carbon Crystal Skirt as all the other parts I have require a tank/ fender/ etc.
So far I have
CVO fascia
Saddlebag lock plates
Skirt
Side covers
Dash
Side mounting plates
Cans

With the skirt on you can clearly see the difference in the black see the flames and the skirt the skirt is a deeper black...

Stay tuned for more pics.

I hear the stuff about VIN protected on this site every once in awhile. I am on my 3rd CVO, but I have never been asked for a VIN for any purchase I ever made, including some CVO stuff that didn't fit my bikes,, inc seats, emblems and gauges I bought for resale, picked it up for friends because I was there etc. They just never asked. Can not believe I am special, in fact my wife will tell you I am not, so why is it such a deal for others?

Yes they are vin protected I got them via a private seller that did a conversion on his CVO, stretched bags, 12 inch rim etc.

The painted tins are VIN protected to prevent any CVO cloning from being done by non-cvo owners.  All the other parts that are specific to CVO when purchased are typically in the P&A catalog for any one to purchase as a ad-on.
The MOCO has been known to ask for the original VIN Protected parts (tins) as returns when purchasing new/replacement to guarantee that cloning does not take place.

So he switched out his all his parts but the lowers???   Tank? Bat Wing fairing? Inner fairing and Juke Box Door? Saddle Bag Supports? Rear Fender w /Light Assembly?   And everything else but kept the lowers?  Who is he going to get to paint match to those lowers.....

I am looking forward to seeing the completion of that color scheme with the Chrome vs the Black out as the MOCO ships it.

Are you selling any HC Mercury parts?

Might be nice to have spares parts.

No offense intended, but this seems absolutely INSANE! Why not trade for one? Seems like it'd be a wash with the cost of all the parts vs taxes, etc.

Was this a ton of work?  You could have bought the carbon crystal and put a chrome 120 in for cheaper....?

Few things

I bought the tins as an entire set and although I won't say how much it was, I will say that it was a reasonable price.

I owe 25k, why would I trade it in and lose all my equity?

The factory carbon Crystal bike is blacked out save for the pipes, I still have an awesome chrome front end, chrome primary, chrome engine parts, chrome engine guards, chrome handle bars, chrome controls.

Also if I sell my set...Key word is If, I will have doubled my money.

And I did all the work myself. I have done a tin swap before so I have plenty of experience.

Good points ZVO - a trade in would most likely result in a financial bloodbath as I learned when investigating trading my SEUC at several dealerships. I wasn't planning to make a change, but was curious about what the dealer had to say. No good news from that quarter - I'll be keeping my bike, which I like quite well, forever...

Maybe there is someone out there who wants to convert their Carbon Crystal to a HC Mercury and you can swap/sell parts to one another because the lowers in HC w the rest Carbon--well, let's just say that is really different.

Gotta give you credit for venturing into this project--at least you can convert it back if you choose. Are you riding this as you go thru your conversion?

Pro tip that amp is a mother to get off its on a metal bracket that's glued to the saddlebag...
