I'm trading my 12 CVO SG for a 16 CVO SG....

What are the differences and are any of my extras interchangeable?

Like: Mustang Seat , Vance and Hines Pipe and Mufflers, Tour Pak (I realize it would need painted), detachable mounting hardware, rear foot boards, lic plate frame, etc

Looking at the HD site, the tour packs are listed different for the '14 and up vs older. I do know the docking kits are different but place everything in the same position enabling you to use backrest and such from previous years to now. So with that I am not sure other than the style and all of the new tour packs what the difference is.. Yes to everything else on your list.

I have a friend the has the 2015 CVO SG and my 2012 Backrest wont fit on his bike, its about 1/4 inch to narrow.

I'm not surprised, its how they sell accessory's.....

Different docking hardware for Rushmore but the sissy bar should work. Passenger footboards, exhaust and license plate frame should work.

Just double checked the HD catalog, 2009 and later passenger rails will work on the Rushmore docking hardware. Your backrest should fit.

I think everything but the docking stuff and anything to do with the fairing may work.

And why does the thread title say 2016 vs 2015   Shouldn't it say 2012 vs 2016?

There is something wrong with this comment.. I have a backrest from my '11 SG that fit on my '14 SGS and now my '15CVOSG   I have two friends who have done the same.. Differant dock but everything previous fits that dock

Yes, you are correct. 2009 and later should fit.

I have read some posts about people saying that the new backrest aren't fitting correctly to the dock set up. Maybe my friend has a dock that is tweak or not to spec. He had a CVO 12 SG and said his wouldn't fit so he sold the backrest and bought a new one. After reading what everyone says about it fitting I tool mine over and tried it on his bike and no luck it wont fit.

I pick ep my new 16 tomorrow and I'm still trying to decide what will and wont be worth keeping.

It should fit. I have a 15 and bought a standard height passenger backrest which had an 09 part number. Some of the fitment issues on the newer docking hardware involved spinning the spools on the stems to get the accessories to fit. Your saying its narrow slightly, did he install the docking hardware correctly?

Hold onto your stuff, install the docking hardware and go from there, it should work.

Also you might ask your friend if his right shock is installed correctly.  If upside down backrest will not fit properly..  Some bikes shipeed with right shock installed incorrectly.

That's smart - those chunky amp plugs on the inner side of the saddle bags on the '15 drive me crazy with the stupidity of their location, given it was such an easy fix

Yes, the amp plug has been moved and isn't such a problem.
Question- on my 2015 RG Special, with the new saddle bag lid design, you couldn't open the bag if a tour pack was on.
Needed a spacer of sorts.  Dumb design.  Ended up trading for the SG anyway, but wondering if that clearance issue is the same with the SGs?   Thinking instead of just a quick-detach rack and bag....and packing less.

YES! I put the color matched, chopped tour pac on my 2015 sg with the solo mount, and the bag lids hit. I ended up glueing a 1/4" x 2" strip of rubber to the mount, and it still just barely clears.

I also ordered and installed the chopped tour pak with docking hardware and no problem with tour pak lids hitting

Who ever sold you your tour pack I am betting forgot to include the spacers that are needed to raise the tourpak when using the solo rack..

Yes are missing the spacers that are needed for the solo set up. I put the solo chopped on my bike earlier this year, only to have the lids hit also. Went back to the parts book and realized that for the solo, you have to order a spacer kit. I believe it was $50.00. With the spacers in place, the only thing that might hit is the latch if it's in the open position. I just open the latch to open the bag, then close it before I swing the lid open. It's was just a quick habit to learn.

Good to know about the spacers, but for $50 i'm glad I went with the belting. Plus I covered the whole rack, so there would be even pressure over the entire base of the pac.
