No, you can access the front cylinder flange bolts through the vent and a nice extension and Swivel adapter.

I agree, putting head pipes on is complicated by the lower fairings, but I put V & H Power Duals on mine along with HO Mufflers. I took my time and it was a 10-hour job in all.

no need to.
I use a 1/4 inch drive with swivel and extensions to get to front header clamp nuts.

But you do have to take of the floorboard.

Thanks for the tip!  :2vrolijk_21: I'm going to tackle header replacement tomorrow and was not thrilled about having to remove the lower fairing. Putting on Fullsack Dx headers. Removed the stock baffles earlier in the week and will put in the FS 2" cores with screens. My tuner choice, TTS MasterTune 2. I gotta get this wrapped up by the time the salt washes off the roads so I don't waste any saddle time wrenching.  :coolblue:

Temps got up to the high 40s so I pulled the stock headers off today. I was able to remove the left header flange nut with a 1/2" deep socket and a hinged rachet. The right header flange nut is accessible from the left side of the bike with a 1/2" wrench. No deed to remove lower fairing nor thread an extension through the vent.  :bananarock:  Remember to remove the heat shields first.
