Mini Madstad for '15 Roadglides
« on: January 28, 2015, 06:49:47 PM »

As you might recall, I was lucky enough to test out the new Madstad for the '15 RGs, and one suggestion was to make a shield small enough to fit inside a tourpak.  Once again, Mark comes through and I had it on my door to test out. I used it all last week and it performs just as good as the normal size.  The only difference I can tell is the air on the sides is right at the end of the handlebars; the normal size shield pushes the air out farther past the bars.
So why a smaller shield? Easy, more versatility and security. I can now take the shield off anytime I want and still have it with me. An added bonus is now I can lock it up in the tourpak for additional security; it might even fit inside a saddlebag ... I'll try that tomorrow. Here's some pics

The only change I could see for the mini-madstad would be to remove the center air vent cutout and follow the side lines for the bottom edge. This would make the shield even smaller with no change is functionality.

Here's some pics:

Another way it fits with the lid closed

Front shot ... Maybe trim bottom and follow the chrome windshield cover lines.

All the way down and up.

Very interesting, not sure I could live with the looks.  Though hard about it on my 09 SERG, then on my 12 SERG, but could not get past the looks.

I find the wind control on the 15 SERGU much better than earlier road glides.  I tried many shields like Cee Baily, Clear View, Klock Werks, and wind splitter on the earlier bikes.  Clear view was best but not sporty, Cee Baily was best that looked sporty.  The 15 SERGU stock shield was better than any shield I ever found for the earlier bikes.

Still was not sporty and I could have lived with it.  Tried the KlockWerks sport 14 on the SERGU, and good wind control like the stock one, but very sporty.

I am sure the Madstad works better I know it did on the earlier glides.

How can someone with such great taste in motorcycles have such  :soapbox:  taste in windshields!?   There I said it.  And I have said it before!  To each his own and if you like it, please disregard anything I might have to say.  I've had the stock shield up to 90 mph and I thought the wind control was terrific with the vents closed.  I wouldn't mind having mine tinted and Cee Baileys has released light and dark tint sport and touring versions.  For now, I'm sticking with stock. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.   :o

I understand about the looks as I really had a hard time with it at first, but it just grew on me. Now, would I have it on my 2013 RGC, no way; the CVO is a different story. This is our long haul, 2-up touring bike, so comfort over looks is more important. My wife also has less wind when riding, so that's what counts the most.
