Rocker Knock
« on: May 09, 2011, 11:43:14 AM »

Both of my bikes that have cams(211 and 259e) make a small tick or knock under certain loads and rpm. The dealer says it is rocker knock and comes from the high lift cams. The bikes both run great and I have had no problems with them. The Road King(103 with 10.5:1 pistons and 211 cam) has been like that for 20'000 miles and has not gotten any worse.

Anybody else having these noises? Sound ok/normal?

I've never heard one that's doesn't tick. I've read that if you shim the rocker arms so the side thrust clearance is around 0.004", it goes away. There is a post on hdforums that talks about this.

I just turn the radio up louder on my 2010 SEUC, that makes it quiet right down.  Seriously, all the dealers say that its normal on the 110's.....until something comes apart. :soapbox:

Oh chit! :o   The next step is to sell both of them and get yourself a bike that has a stereo! :2vrolijk_21:     :zroflmao: :zroflmao: :zroflmao:

About that.  I rode the wife's FLHX the other day and she has the new Hog Tunes speakers and all that and I thought the radio sounded like noise to me at highway speeds. My hearing is already fer crap so I fear turning the beast up so I can hear it good. I will only get more damage so i am not sure a radio is for me. :confused5:
