Anyone had this happen?  If so, how did you fix it?

Push down until flush and turn it clockwise a little. Mine was installed 90 degrees out from the factory.

Note that the pic is not the gas cap but the gauge on left side of the tank.  I pushed it down and it won't stay.  Guess I'm back to the dealer in the morning which will probably amount to a three week ordeal.  First week of 60 degrees here too. Smh!!!

Yes I was talking about the gas gauge, mine was installed wrong. If you twist it slightly clockwise while it is pressed all the way down it will lock and stay down. You only need to turn it till it stops to lock it down. I checked mine and if turned counter clockwise it pops up and looks like yours. Pushed down into the tank as far as it can go and rotate clockwise and it's locked back down. Good luck and hope this saves you a trip to the dealer!

The gas gauge works similar, if you push down and twist it slightly counter clockwise it will pop up on springs for removal for servicing. If you push it back down and turn it clock wise it will lock it back down into position.

Correct me if I'm hallucinating again, but doesn't Harley include a decal on those bikes equipped with a fake gas cap on the left side, cautioning customers to not twist the fake cap?  At least they did on the ones that weren't flush.

If it was installed correctly to begin with (not a given), it should take a conscious decision and effort to unlock it.  If it just pops up after you dry it off with a towel after a wash or something similar, it wasn't locked properly to start with or it's defective.

No decal on the flush one Jerry,
but you do have to push down with some force and twist to get it to pop up.
