This is becoming a problem! no pictures please
« on: May 13, 2011, 11:23:14 PM »

The short story is that I have never had allergy issues until lately.
The pollen count has been off the chart and my uncontrollable sneezing is putting me in harms way.

Eyes shut, convulsions follow and then the aftermath.

from the "web" fingers to the jacket decoration or the just plain temporary loss of conscientious,
this is a major problem.

allergy meds not working.

Am I the only one?

again, no pictures are necessary.

I try to delay action to at least when I am on a straight piece of road.

This is attempt to bring humor to a situation that is not always funny.

and how do the "Full face helmet" crowd deal with this?

Try Claritin D.  Usually have to sign for it at the pharmacy as it is used in the manufacture of meth.

My husband has suffered from allergies all of his life. A few years ago he started getting a Kenalog shot in the spring and in a few days he can breath and ride with out his eys swelling. The Dr's don't like it BUT he has tried everything on the market RX, over the counter, he has tried it. Ask for a cute nurse cuz you get a shot in the butt. :P It works for Terry for about three months. Gets him through the grass and pollen season.

Holistic practioneers (I am one of them) believe that red clover tea sweetened with local raw honey contains antibodies for blocking the affects of the allergens from that area. There are also a few other things one can try in that field anyone that wants to know them can PM and I will get back with you do not want to use bandwidth just to be doing it.

Keats,
Have you seen an Allergist about this? I had never had any major allergies until a few years ago. They tested me and found that I am allergic to shell fish, pet dander, and some pollen. I now take daily meds as we live in the woods, have 2 cats and a dog.
Good luck,
Mike

There are those who swear by the locally produced raw honey here in the Birmingham, AL area, and frankly, it makes sense to me though I've never tried it.  Depending on the year, I've seen the pollen so bad that the air looked like it was yellow when looking from a high point down into the valleys around here.  We were fortunate this year in that it rained often enough to wash the worst of it away before it became a real problem, though highly allergic people have problems, regardless.

Sneezing in a full face helmet is not a good thing...that's why I wear a modular/flip face Nolan...I can at least flip it up, hold my nose, and let the blast go out through my mouth.  Actually, a FF helmet may help keep some of the airborn particles from hitting you squared in the face... :nixweiss:

It is a serious issue while riding a bike.  Try the honey...it makes sense that by ingesting a tablespoon or so of local honey each day, you are allowing your body to build up a resistance to local pollen effects.  The Clariton works well also.  Short of that, see a specialist, get tested, and get the needed shots.

Keats,

Not an allergy issue, but last Sunday I could not even figure out where the floor was when I woke up.  Looks like inner ear issue at this time Dr. put me on anti vert it has helped tremendously, I think in a week or so I may be able to ride again.

In the meantime he also set me up with a Cardio guy Monday, just in case I have a clogged pipe, hope not.

Good luck.

Have had the same problem intermittently over the past three years. Nothing like getting up in the middle of the night to go pee and doing a full spin onto the carpet, WHOP!
Many tests run with no diagnosis. Then I had a pain in my neck and stiffness at the same time, so I rolled my head around until my neck stopped cracking. Symptoms go away. Obviously, I have a joint in my neck that goes out and presses on some nerve affecting balance. I just fix it myself now.

I have always had alergys. I use an RX nose spray now (need a doctor to prescribe) that fixes all my alergy problems. Fluticasone propionate.. Expensive though, about $70 a bottle.

i have severe hay fever myself. been using a neti pot for a few years with outstanding success. during bad times i do it morning and night. its now part of my daily shower routine. not a miracle or cure all but from my personal experience i highly recommend it to anyone with sinus allergies.
