CVO FXDSE Gas Cap
« on: September 02, 2014, 10:19:20 PM »

Hello;

I am a brand new member, live in Vermont and just purchased a 2008 CVO FXDSE.

I am wondering what I am doing wrong when attempting to open my fuel cap.  I twisted it counterclockwise, it popped up, but I can't get the cap off.  Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks!!

Fuel Cap - FXDSE
« Reply #1 on: September 02, 2014, 10:27:36 PM »

Hi;

I just purchased a 2008 CVO FSXSE.  Like I am supposed to do, I pushed fuel cap down, twisted it counterclockwise and it popped up.   Now, I am wondering what I am doing wrong, as I cannot get the cap off.  It must be me!!  :nixweiss:

Thanks,

Catch the top of the cap and continue to turn CCW.

As it turns out, the dealer filled the tank with gas prior to me picking it up.  The employee cross threaded it bad.   The tech to care of it and it works great now.

Thanks!

My buddy has one of those bikes.  The gas cap is wonky and easy to x-thread, and the spring can fail.  His basically exploded (came apart) when fueling up.  He bought two.  One as a replacement and one to have as a spare.

Same thing happened to me on my first gas cap - came completely apart at the gas pump. Got a new one which is a revised (improved) design. No problems since. I can dig up the part number if you need it...
