Ken & Jesse

Here is a crate 124 from S&S. Its making normal power. The Other run is one of our basic 113 touring kits. 10.6 compression, off the shelf t/b basic head porting. Really nothing over the top and by no means running an aggressive cam, its our little 577. It may not make much hp compared to a 640 . However when you look at the curves you see an completely new picture.  Not all 113 builds are equal,.. getting the right combo is pretty amazing for the end user. Always great to see the customers grinning.   Its about tailoring  the power curve to where the customer is riding.

Lever that looks very nice BTW I bet that makes you smile as well.  :)

That's pretty impressive that your 113" is out-pulling an S&S 124" HC engine consistently up to 4500 RPM. I'd up shift that bad boy around 4800-5000 RPM, when the TQ starts falling off.

And who runs a big-inch V-Twin at 5500-6000 RPM anyway, unless they are drag racing or trying to blow it up? Even with the high-duration SE 259Es and Dragula 2-1 exhaust, I sure don't... although I have occasionally hit the rev limiter when I wasn't paying attention.

I'd much rather have the TQ curve of that 113" than that 124"!

Ken you nailed it. I really try to keep mine under 5k. Just don't need to wind it up that damn high. My TQ peaks at about 4.1K anyway  :nixweiss:

Yeah, with your Drago's 580s you aren't going to produce more usable power above 5000 anyway, Jesse. And it's a lot easier on the hardware!

The old rule is when the TQ starts falling faster than the HP is rising, you're done. Time to up shift to get back into the peak TQ range... because TQ is what gets you accelerating at a faster rate. HP is just TQ x RPM / 5252 anyway.

One is no more right than the other is wrong. The reason I showed that is that there is this presumption that the 124 is the almighty monster. It is based on how one wants to ride the bike. In a all all drag racing with high RPM shifting the 124 will run off from the 113.  But for the most part guys wanting a 124 but in fact only need a basic well matched 113 build.  No need for  a mega lift cam or a clattery pos stick but a mild cam( many to choose from) that makes middle of the road hp and a very broad early building tq curve.

In the end its your build guys. :2vrolijk_21:

So if we are a few miles out from Texas, can we order this 113"kit" to put on ourselves or even use our local Indy shop?

I'd also need a copy of that Tune, assuming you have it for a PV.

Yes we do. I am working on two more  113's  that are done but waiting on other items and they are both being tuned with the PV.

yea Steve your right it does put a smile on my face ....it's really amazing on what 3 cubic inches and a bump in compression does  to the 110 motor's
it's like a good cup of strong coffee in the morning  man she has some kick to her
and one thing I would like to mention as well  when tune correctly  there very lil  heat difference  from
my 110 to 113
again that's my bike  I went over kill on the heat issue
2 fan assist oil coolers and wards cooling fan kit

Well, crap! I should really look at this... as though Steve doesn't already have me drooling from that dyno chart...  ::)

A flat curve like that, AND out-pulling a HC 124" until 4500 RPM? Jeez! Any more power than that and I'd prolly get myself in over my head...

I wonder how a LC 124" would fare in that shootout...

I rode the bike (the dyno in the 1st post) to work this morning about a 30 mile trip consisting of some Interstate, 4 lane surface streets, and back roads... Still taking it somewhat easy, varying the RPMs, but this bike runs great. Like I said earlier, I wasn't planning on going to a 113" but in hind sight I'm glad we did..

Any more power than that and I'd prolly get myself in over my head...
Ken

A couple of pulls before the one Steve posted I told him that was enough power... any more would just get me in trouble... he just smiled and went back in the booth

Ken I know you would be real happy with the 113 set up
consider it a early x-mas gift to your self. .....
