I was interested in it for both my 08 FLHR and 11 FLHXSE2 CVO but I'm not sure about the oval shaped opening and how much it limits the plate (i.e. reg stickers not viewable)...however the Kuryakyn plate seems to be a clean install as well as well lit. This string provides some intel on both and pics http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=54209.0;all

So you can identify those who are using it and pick their brains and there are plenty of pics there too... Let us know what you provide and please provide pics of your install.

I saw it at the Easyrider Bike Show and talked to Paul for awhile about CVO aftermarket parts.

In regards to the license plate frame.....I didn't think the oval opening goes with anything else on the bike.  Also, I wonder if it doesn't cover to much of the plate to where the CHP would have a problem with it and use it for an excuse to pull you over. :nixweiss:

I hope to see some pics once you guys get these installed as well, need to see one on an actual bike with an actual license plate...I'm assuming you all had to order the back plate as well? Just curious how this all fits together...

Thanks!!

Just order 1 part number and you get everything you need for the SESG. See the e-mail I got below after I asked the same question.

I worte this:

Quick question…..I see on the website there is a back plate part listed under the Stealth3. Did I need to order that as well to fit the 2011 FLHXSE2 or is what I ordered enough?? I just ordered the universal frame.

The response was:

NO SIR, JUST WEIRD VERBAGE! THEY BOTH ARE STEALTH 3 PLATES WITH BACK PLATE, THE UNIVERSAL BACKPLATE IS FOR S.E. MODELS AND CUSTOM APPLICATIONS

OK, so just to be sure, you ordered either part number USLP3 or the USLP3-B, correct?

Thanks for the heads up!

That's what I think......I called and told them what bike I had and that I wanted a Stealth 3 and it got ordered. The receipt stays Stealth 3 Universal Black, so I'm guessing that would be USLP3-B

Well, I'm kind of glad I just can't afford it - that catalog would cost me a minimum of 10-15 grand

I got mine  tonight. It looked good. Simple unbolt of the old frame and disconnect the light. Remove the backing plate inside the fender. Getting my plate to fit in the frame took a few minute. Besides getting the curve right (I used a pastry roller), my state has pretty poor inmates. The plate edges were not consistent so I had to use some shears to trim it up. Once I got that done I went to install it. I got one of the bolts started. I installed the other and just as it was beginning to tighten, the weldnut popped off. I wasn't over tightening (lock washer hadn't compressed yet) so I thought maybe the bolt was too long. That was not it either. It seems like a crappy weld (made in Taiwan of course). So I emailed Yaffe with a pic to get a replacement. Very disappointing. But I can say it fit well up to that point!

Did they ask for a return ship on the broken one or are they just comping you a new one? If they aren't requiring you to send it back, then would you consider shipping it to me? I'll pay for the shipping and I can have someone tack it back down fer cheap...just a thought. Thanks!

How does the black look on the bike? I was thinking chrome but after the pic that looks pretty sweet.

Looks good in the pic, does the black frame stick out from the metallic black on our fenders or can you hardly notice?

Its not a metallic paint so it definitely does not match. I have not had it in the sun yet which is where it will be noticeable if it doesn't match. If it stops raining, I'll get a daylight picture.

Paul is at bike week, his booth is on beach street next to the boob from Sturgis full throttle saloon he hides in the back of his display when u buy a t shirt then he will give an autograph NOT.  I did mention your problem to Paul about the broken nut, of course he said too tight, too long, I said nope he didn't do either, from the pictures on the forum it looked like a bad tack weld. He said "no problem we will replace it"  so if your repair doesnt work send it back. Paul is a very nice guy as is the rest of his crew and his stuff is sweet!!

Finally got a call back from Yaffe. Of course most of the crew is at bike week so it took a little longer than normal. But as expected they said just send the old one back and they'll get me a new one. I actually paid for another one so they would ship it out sooner. I got a UPS notice today saying it was on its way. When I return the bad one, they will credit for the second one. I hope this one works better.

Just did mine----plate is not that well lit in the center due to the lights not being all across the top. Overall it's a nice piece.

This is not a very good pic, but you can see how dark the center of the plate is. It was taken at night with my phone.

Thanks

Direct from Bagger Nation they are $149.99.  Dennis Kirk has them for $141.00, but they are out of stock.

I got the replacement from Yaffe and the finish and fit up was much better than the first. It had a completely different hardware kit from the first. I was really excited and ready to go and noticed the LED lights weren't working. I checked the harness and there was 12V to the LED boards but no light. I plugged the first one in and it worked fine. So now I'm really frustrated with this product.

Got the 3rd one in tonight. Yaffe FedEx'd at his expense. Can't say enough about their customer service. This plate had the same problem. No LEDs. I could not believe I got 2 that were bad, so I plugged the first one (the one with the bad weld) and it worked fine. The two replacements did not. So I decided I was going to just use the first frame and use one of the new backing plates. This required me to cut the harness to get the plate off. Just on a hunch, I took one of the new frames and reversed the wires. When I did that, the LED worked on the new ones. So either the connectors were pinned wrong or they were soldered wrong. So at this point I didn't care; I just swapped the wires and used some heatshrink to install. I plugged it all in, and it worked finally. They do not light the plate well but I love the design so much I'm going to chance it.

Wow...what an ordeal / PIA. The good news is that you like it so much that it's worth it to you. Congrats on getting what you wanted to work like it's meant to work. Please let us know if you end up having any issues from the POPO. Thanks.

At least now I know I am not the only one with the poor lighting issue in the center of the plate.

Actually, if it is like the stock Harley connector, there is a little tab inside that can be pushed to release the pins.

Well guys another Yaffe Stealth frame bites the dust!
I was installing my Stealth frame, spent extra time trimming the plate to fit, checked the LEDs OK. But something kept telling me to look at the welds on the nuts, those two little welded nuts are the only thing mounting this thing to the fender, if they fail then the wire will keep that thing swinging in the breeze = ruined paint and one pi$$ed off dude!  I hadn't mounted it yet and grabbed one nut with pliers gave a very slight twist.... SNAP  broken (weld) if you can call it that.
I called Yaffe (left message).  I will most likely have it TIG welded so I know it will hold. I included a pic of the plate/tag mounted so you can see how much of the sticker shows, the sticker is in the indented  (proper) space for a florida plate.

I would strongly suggest anyone thinking of using a Stealth to have the nuts welded before installation!

Sorry to hear about another plate biting the dust. I went through the same thing. I will say I get a lot of comments on how cool it is. I just hope it stays on the bike. One thing I noticed though. The first one I received had a "Made in Taiwan" sticker on it (box). The replacements (2) had a spot on the box where a sticker had been removed and no "Made in Taiwan". Go figure.

ah..nice, finally a pic of a chrome one in real life, thanks! Can't wait to see one mounted on the bike. One quick question, is that black foam/rubber square the only thing between the back of the plate & the fender?

I called Yaffe about that foam and I was told on the SESG I did not have to use it. I removed it and the frame does not contact then fender when itstalled. It's close...but it does not touch. So I left it out.

You can only attach one file/picture per post. Those posts you see w/multiple pictures are not attached to the post they are embedded in the post from somewhere else on the internet.

You can use a photo editing program to post multiple pics. Technically its still only one jpg per post but you can make a single jpg file from multiple photos in programs like Photoshop.

Finally got the Stealth mounted. Took some thinking and some fabrication but I was able to use the stock backing plate and harness cover. I am very pleased with the way it came out. I had the backing plate nuts tig welded to make sure it wont break off. I dont mind the night time light look, as I see it, I dont Ha Ha  I know a bad attempt at humor!

I used plastic washers between the backing plate and the bike. I just couldnt mount the metal against the paint    (Nails scratching on a chaulk board)   I also used a black plastic plug in the wiring hole and poked a hole in it to run the wiring........35 years of gearheading is hard to shake!

Charley

You have to remove the swedged nuts on the backing plate that mounts the stock bracket, I tried drilling the threads but with the angle the bolts have to go into the Stealth its easier to remove them. About 1 hour frustrating myself before I figured that out. I had to cut longer mount bolts to fit (the supplied bolts are too short if you use the backing plate and in my case the plastic washers). This is the step that takes the longest, you want the bolts to go almost all the way into the Stealth without bottoming out when tightend. When you do these 2 things its a cake walk to assemble, I also used blue loctite on the mount bolts.  If I decide to ever mount the stock plate bracket I will just use longer bolts with washers and locknuts.
Hope this helps

This helped me. I was ready to go back together after drilling out the threads with a 1/4" like Yaffe instructed and the bolts are too short. Going to take the factory mount to work tonight and drill the "swedged nuts" off.

How does the black look on the bike? I was thinking chrome but after the pic that looks pretty sweet.

Definately the Black on the Black Diamond, Why anything else, from the rear the bike looks all Black and that's what makes it so unique, IMHO!!!

I installed the Yaffe license plate frame a few months ago and love it. I think it really cleans the rear fender up nicely and have been pleasantly surprised by the light. As for covering up the license plate, not a problem on mine.

Good luck on your decision.

Could someone please measure the opening, right to left & top to bottom for me? our B.C. plates are 8x5 & I need to know if enough of it will be visible.

Thx.

I'm from Alberta, Canada. Our Plate size is also 8"x5" & am also wondering if someone could please measure the opening, right to left & top to bottom for me?

My take is lighting is no where near legal. I showed it to our chief of police and he said my officers would definitely pull you over for not enough light. I am having a small bracket made to add additional lighting as I hate to have a target on my back. Not impressed about it being made overseas also.

To each his own. Been running it over a year and love the way it looks and lights up the plate. No issues whatsoever. Best looking bracket on the market IMO. Either way, rubber side down and I hope we all get to go for a ride again someday because we just got another 3 or 4 inches of snow  :'(

Don't get me wrong, I love the look. I am actually having it painted to match. I had a kuryakyn but didn't like it at all, all plastic. I just feel the lighting could be better but like most things it can be fixed with a little ingenuity. I will post some pics once done with my home made fix.

WOW funny you bumped this dead thread up Dale.
I noticed 2 weeks ago the LEDs were dead on mine, did a check 12V supply OK. Decided to order a new one rather than mess with trying to repair, was pleasantly surprised that the LEDs were changed to a full strip across the top and they include another replacement LED strip! The original one had 4 small LEDs 2 on each side and didnt light it up much at all. The new setup is really bright and the welding problem is also fixed.

Wayne

Sorry didnt think of taking any pictures since this thread was dead!
