Handle bar options for a 2012 cvo sg
« on: March 14, 2012, 10:56:11 PM »

Looking for new handle bars that will not require me to ride leaning forward, any good options? I am not a tall person at 5'9" on a new 2012 cvo sg.

Appreciate any feedback.

X2...better wrist position with the 575's too.  They look a hell of a lot better, IMO.

I've got the same question for my CVO RoadGlide about the handle bars I'm finding myself leaning forward. I've been told a 2 and 1 bar , or a Heritage bar. I want a black bar and I think it'll need to come back and up to fit right.
Any idea how one could get an idea on what you'd need?

The Harley Touring Pullbacks are 2" up and 2" back.  The web site and the catalog both say stainless steel and need to change cables/wiring but neither is true.  They are chrome and you can use stock wires.

Both the wife and I had these bars on our Street Glides (mine was CVO) and a number of other SESG owners on this forum are using them.....that's where I got the idea.  Even though they're billed as 2" up and 2" back my wife had hers pulled back even more so hers were probably more like 1" up and 3" back. :nixweiss:

Wild One Chubbys 575 bars here, too. They move your hands about 2" up, 2" back, and out a bit - and give you a much better wrist position than the stock bars. They are 1 1/4" in diameter, so they look a lot better than 1" bars.

Wild One also makes the Chubbys 578 bars now, too. I have a friend who just put them on his Ultra recently. They are more like mini-apes, and position your hands about 2" above the 575 bars. You will likely need new clutch and brake lines with those, whereas with the 575 bars you will most likely not... I didn't.

I'm 5'-8" and I'm running 12" Monkey Bars from Yafee. I absolutely love them!

Last October we road from St. Louis to Pensacola, FL. First long ride with the new bars. Definitely the best piece I added to the scoot.

Style, comfort and everything in between.  :2vrolijk_21:

Road Glide is a different animal, so ignore the recommendations for the Street Glide.

Are the handgrips a one time use? The Rumble grips will have to ordered, VIN protected to allow time for dealer to get.

No, they slide off and 'clamp' back on. Only things you should need are a fish tape or chain to pull wires through and some dish soap. While the bars are on the bench.....is a good time to swap out the black switch covers for chrome ones.

Give Yaffee a call. They sell complete kits. I did mine myself over a long weekend. Their instructions were good and if you have the patience you can do it.

Just installed 575's on my 2012 ultra this last weekend, did the work myself wasn't bad just take pics and make diagrams of plugs and wires. Love them so far haven't been able to get any long trips yet I'm in Kansas weathers been bad. Hand position much better and still behind fairing plus the larger diameter bars just look better. Used all the same wires and cables.

I would do taller bars with more pullback. I did +2 sweepers and it helped as far as getting the bars closer to me but I always find myself wishing for more height on long rides because you tend to slump in the saddle when reaching your arms down toward your bars. I'm doing 13 cyclesmiths they have 8.5 inches of pullback and just felt right when I sat on bikes with them installed. I am only 5'6" tall and the 2 guys I know with the bars are the same height and say they won't ride a bike without them. Good luck!

Mr Dinny - I have LA Choppers 13" Prime Apes on my FLHTCUSE and they are slightly wider than Yaffee, and they DON'T allow fitment of the stock heated grips.
As for the wrist angle they are OK for me, but as I have not tried the Yaffee monkey bars, I cannot comment.

They look great. Wont need to worry about heated grips as my street glide doesn't have that option. Thanks Peggers

Yaffe 14" Monkey bars and love them. Note the added speakers to fill in the old mirror holes. You can never have too many speakers.
