Anyone need a rear tire yet ?
« on: January 27, 2013, 06:52:00 PM »

I'm getting close on my sesg3.  13k miles.  The middle has definitely seen better days.  I guess I'll be ordering up one soon.  What's everyone else who needed one got on their original ?  Thanks.  Stuart

You only really have one choice, OEM unless you want a radial.

I'm only getting right around 9,000 to 10,500 miles on the rear before I need a new one depending on how I've been riding.  Looking @ putting on #4 @ 33,000 mile.  I'll be looking for a good replacement combo when I need a new front & rear.

Anyone running something they recommend?

Unfortunately for the rear the only tire that is properly load rated is the stock d407 tire form HD. I talked to a Dunlop rep at a dealer showcase Friday night and was told they hope to have the American elite in the 180/55-18 by the end of the year......Metzler, Pirelli, and Michelin did not have an answer for when or if they'd have it available.

Thanks Jim.  I'll keep an eye out for the American Elites.

I think I have no other choice at this time but to go to the dealer?  I probably have another thousand miles before I have to change it. These tires last a whole lot longer than the tires that came on my 04.  5k they were toast.   :'(

I managed to squeeze 18K out of the rear before I had to replace it. Granted, I'm only 180#, and held back on constant burn outs.

I got 40 000 KM on my rear. A few burn outs  ;D.

It stood up straight on it's own when they took it off. Front was OK but I changed them both before I went to Sturgis. I wish I could have waited. My buddy with a CVO convertible changed his tires in Rapid City H.D. and he paid 50% LESS than I did. Ish.

No more burn outs unless I am changing my tires in the U.S.

Bad news boys..........got this today from Dunlop

We appreciate your contact and interest in Dunlop Motorcycle Tires.
Unfortunately, our current production plan for year 2013 / 2014 does not include the American Elite 180/55B18 size.
Sorry, we are unable to help further.

Meh, it is what it is.  I actually really like these tires.  The dual compound seems to where really well.

I don't like that the dealership is the only place to get the tires, but often in the winter months, they sell them at a decent discount.  At least, my local dealership does.

Also, I ordered my last set from LSHD.  Changing them myself helps keep cost down.
