2012 CVO Street/ GPS Mount
« on: January 20, 2014, 06:03:19 PM »

Hello Brothers and sisters!!,
I'm thinking of pulling the trigger for a factory GPS (garmin)? Can you help me out with mounting dilema? I want it clean as possible but cringe on drilling into my Hot Citrus lover! Handle bar mounts seem to look like a mounted stop sign? I guess this bike will be with me for a long time so go ahead and drill? Please send me your pics. of either mount to calm my nerves!....thanx all!!!!

I went Handle Bar mount just for that reason, I did not want to drill for the fairing mount also was thinking if I sell the Bike easy to take with me from the handle bar. The Fairing mount looks much better I must say.

I have mine mounted on a dash pad that I added from the Ultra.  I think it keeps it looking cleaner than putting it on the handlebar.

Also, the cable CAN BE internally wired, even though the HD website says it cant.

I had the same dilemma. Drilled and that was the right choice for me. Its a clean install when done. There is some wiring that has to be done to make everything function properly so be ready for that. Harley says it can't be done but mine sure works well! There are some excellent post on this if you search.

To drill or not. Thats a personal choice only you can make.

As for me I had a 2010 SG that I drilled the inner, but I just couldnt bring myself to drilling on my Krypto.  Im glad I went with the handle bar mount, its easier for me to work while riding, I just didnt like reaching up. I know you shouldnt play with the GPS while moving, but with 3 roundtrips Florida to Sturgis Id still be riding if I stopped every time I worked the darn thing.
As mentioned earlier search the topic mucho information about this.

if you have a Smartphone, and you are willing to use that as your GPS (as I do), I highly suggest the Phoneshield.  I have it on my V-rod and it is awesome...to much to explain here.  On my CVO SG I use the Kuryakyn set-up which mounts to the end windscreen bolt on either side.  I didn't want to drill either!  Either way, both are great set-ups.

I can't drill into my fairing either.   So I don't have one.   :)

Didn't want to drill my inner fairing, so I opted for a handlebar mount, but didn't really like the HD mount - it was too bulky and sat too high up.  I found a small chrome handle bar clamp in the Kuryakyn catalog.  I coupled that with a chrome mounting rig from Ram.  My GPS sits below the windshield and is easily visible and within reach.  The unit blocks my view of the fuel gauge, but who uses that anyway.  The next time I have the outer fairing off, I may try to move some of the gauges around.  Nevertheless, I powered the GPS by finding a hot wire inside the fairing that's goes cold when the switch is turned off.  I'll try to post some pics when I get home.

Here's a pic of the handlebar clamp I used.  It was the smallest one I could find.

Just drill it.... Made GPS support and installed to dead centre of fairing. Simple installation and easy viewing.
