Hi, I want to install saddlebag guards on my limited, I see the guards and I have to get a new spacer that fits between the bags and the rear wheel as the original one covers up where you would attach the guards, has any one done this themselves and if so is it difficult ? I'm not a mechanic in any stretch of the imagination

The Installation is about an hour job to accomplish.  You do have to remove the filler panels between the bags and fender though but you do not have to buy any additional parts to install the guards.  Just save the filler panels and put them away in case you decide to remove the guards later on or sell or trade the bike.

They make filler panels with cutouts to fit around the guards.

A buddy of mine installed the guards on his CVO and contrary to what the online HD parts shop says, they do fit on the CVO and they also make color-matched ones for the CVOs.  Talk to your parts guy.

Update:

I did a search on the part number 90200874 without the paint codes so they all came up.  Unfortunately, I don't see the CVO colors there, but I know my friend was able to order for his Burgundy Blaze/Typhoon Maroon 2014 Limited.

My dealer was able to refer me to a paint guy that matched the paint perfectly. I like the look of the rails, although they do get in the way of the paint job on the saddlebags just where the paint transitions.

Very nice.  I also like the chrome trim on the TP light.  I'm thinking I made need another trip to the stealer!

I've had them fitted to mine but unfortunately I found HD don't do the slotted filler panels in 'Carbon Dust'.  Seems like an oversight to me!

Yep, I could do that... but I wouldn't as I'm not inclined to do that sort of thing.  I'd much rather that HD offer the parts to match my 2016 colour!

Amazing how we want different stuff and have different opinions. When I bought a bike, in the past, that had bag guards I always took them off before ever riding the bike as I thought they were so ugly, but now folks want them and like the looks so to each his own.

Yep, my first dresser was a 1987 FLHTC and of course bag rails were standard.  I've had 30 years of looking at them and think the bike looks naked without them

I agree. To me, it just doesn't look right without the bag rails. (I confess that I am fighting the desire to put a front bumper on). And... you are right... Harley should offer the painted parts - very odd.

I do agree that I find the curve in the colour paint separation lines of my 2016 CVO Limited doesn't lend itself to the rails as nicely as the paint separation lines on my 2014 Limited.
