Title: What's a Gold Key?
Post by: Slvrtundevl on August 14, 2008, 01:23:46 PM
I am trying to sell my 2006 FLHTCUSE, and a guy asked if I had the gold key? I bought this bike used....it is a CVO Ultra classic....Was there a key that belongs to it?  I wonder what else came factory that I am missing?

The gold key comes with CVO's along with the other stuff get like a CVO bike cover.

Yup, it comes in a ring box.  Along with the CVO cover you should have a tool kit and the driver head set also.

Ok, I got a tool kit, Are they special tools?   I did not get the cover or the key, Does that key by chance operate the ignition?  I know who the previos owner was, But I bought it from a dealer...he traded it in....I wonder if it's worth balking about?

The Gold Key fits the bike.  I would try to get it and the cover if you still can.  Most people looking at your bike will ask for them.

I should've thought of that. I was honest and returned it as well. :sauer019:

I don't understand why someone would keep either the key or the cover. It came with the bike, factory, I can see taking the accessories off that you added, but the bike is now alot less value without the key? and the cover?

The gold "CVO" keys can still be ordered through dealerships, you'll need your key code and the CVO VIN to
Don't have the p/n in front of me, but it's in the back of the P & A catalog along with the other keys.
I believe that they like $70, and you can surely find a dealership that will offer 20% off the list price.

Some people apparently like keeping them for jewlery or momento's.....figure that one out. You can also probably still order the CVO cover for a while longer, but you'd have to get the p/n from someone for your particular model CVO.

BTW, the "gold" key isn't really gold (try polished brass).  As cheap as the MoCo has proven itself to be, I wonder if there is anyone who could possibly believe they would hand out a "real gold" key.

If you want one and the original owner doesn’t have it, for a mere pittance ($89.95 plus tax) you can buy a replacement from H-D:

I have gold *cough* brass keys on both my bikes even though the VRSCA is most notably not CVO.  It was however 100 anniversary and I ordered the gold key package which included the 100th cover, some other 100th stuff, and of course the brass key.

When i traded in my 2006 while on the road last May...they only got that which was on the bike.  If they or a future owner wants any of the following, they will have to pay:

Felt saddlebag liners
CVO Cover
Gold Key
Tool Kit
and probably a few other things.

I think that the garage door opener thing was included with the '06 Ultra too.  I've got a couple of those, but have never used them.  I'd have to hunt to find them.  I've got a small garage door opener that I just clip on a belt loop.

I got the same "Gold Key Package" for my 2003 100th anniversary Gunmetal Blue Fat Boy.

How much is a gold key worth any way ?? Feels pretty heavy....maybe $1,000 ??   :huepfenlol2:    :pineapple:

I really didn't keep the gold key intentionally but when i discovered i had the key and didn't return with the bike i didn't feel bad one bit.. After the grief if went through with that bike.. no way!!!Besides the MoCo ended back with the bike and no loss of value to them,,, no doupt they ordred up another key

I think we need a way to spin the stealership term to a more global encompassing term for the MoCo itself.

I also received one with an '05 SEEG, but did not include it with the bike when I sold it used.  I explained that I had already given the key to my wife.  The gold chain I bought for the key was probably worth a lot more than the "gold" brass key.  I never tried any of mine, but I think the keys did (or do) fit the ignitions on the bikes.

The headset would be on the Ultra Classic bikes.  It's a headset that can be installed on a helmet so you can make use of the intercom, CB, and sound system.
