2014 CVO Ultra Limited Fork Lock Cover Problem
« on: October 24, 2014, 10:30:38 PM »

I have had CVO's since 2001 which was a Road Glide now I have 2 a 2008 Springer and my 2014 CVO Ultra Limited, leading me to my problem, I have a fork lock that has a cover that continues to be bad it does close properly it stays open partially the spring inside goes bad this is my third one I have had to get fixed is this a common problem?  My other bikes do not have covers on the fork locks but this one has a swing away cover that continues to bug me especially after spending this kind of money on a bike.  The ones without covers are bullet proof.  Took bike in for service today cover was working perfectly when I picked the bike up low and behold the cover will not clasp on top of the lock.  Minor but is anyone else having this problem, it has got to be a bad part from the vendor.  I work for General Motors and this reminds me of the ignition recall issue of course not as severe but none the less enough to piss me off.

2014 CVO Ultra Limited Fork Lock Cover Problem
« Reply #1 on: October 24, 2014, 10:40:26 PM »

I posted this topic on the discussion board also, my 2014 CVO Ultra Limited has a fork lock with an annoying cover that continues to break, do not know what is causing it and it is a simple device you should be able to flip cover open to put key in, then flip cover over to latch when done, 2 times my cover failed to clasp and little spring inside goes out, I am on my third fork lock, can anyone tell me what this is happening and is this a problem with the vendor giving a bad part to Harley Davidson.  I work for General Motors so I know how this can happen just want to know if anyone else is having similar problems or is there a better replacement for this.  Thanks for the help

Thanks for pointing this out guys as I was not aware you could lock the forks with a key.  I just use the power fob..

Mine won't unlock 2/3 of the time. I have to unlock with the key most of the time. I've tried moving the bars and jiggling the knob but still does it. Plan on getting it checked after riding season.

I also wondered why there is a place for key on this after reading, knowing that I lock it with the FOB.  Oh well lock and cover #3 is on it's way took a month last time I was on my way to Ranger Reunion last time but now just putting bike away for season.

I have been lucky that locking the bike with the fob sometimes requires a slight movement of the forks to make the fork lock if it is in a bind.

I haven't had this problem. At first I had trouble with the fork lock trying to get it to lock. It would work when I was off the bike but not sitting on the bike. I played with it and finally realized I have turn the lock all the way to the left and then just turn it slightly to the right and everything works fine both the key and the FOB.  I have not had any issues since then.

Exactly the same issues I had and all works well once you turn front wheel just a little to the right after going full left.

Other than needing to move the handle bars slightly mine locks fine. So far I've been lucky, I haven't had any of the problems with my bike that has been described on numerous posts on this site. The only thing that I have to complain about is the GPS. Nothing "wrong" with it, just don't like it. I am thinking about mounting my Zumo and forgetting the factory one is even there!

What don't you like about the GPS?  Just curious.

I think that it is more that I like the Garmin Zumo better. The Garmin is updated more often for one thing. I have noticed road changes around Omaha that are still not reflected on the Motorcycles GPS but it has been updated on my Zumo. Don't get me wrong, the Zumo has some things that I wish were different also. I think they could do a better job, being as it is a motorcycle GPS, of routing on motorcycle centric roads. It has tried to dump me on more than it's fair share of gravel roads. I have learned not to trust it to plan routes on the fly. Works great to plan a route in advance so I don't miss turns and things. I still need to play more with the GPS on the motorcycle and see if I can work through what I think of as shortcomings.
